@KarinasPets Rebel XSI is a great camera. It's pretty much the T1i without the video. Plus, with a slightly lower resolution sensor, it offers less digital "noise" in images that are low light.

500D has higher ISO

500D has HD video @ 720p and 1080p, 450D doesn't have video recording

500D is a little quicker as far a continuous shooting

500D has the new Digic 4 Image Processor

500D has like 15.1 megapixels and 450D has a little more the 12, like 12.3 I made the same decision and I went with the T1i because I am planning on making a career of photography.

The 500d is a fine camera, but the only real gripe is with the kit lens. Especially when shooting scenery, the chromatic aberration is really quite shocking, and I'm not that impressed with the colour rendition, either. Bagged myself the cheapo EF 50mm 1:1.8 fixed lens, for portraits... lovely... but still saving for a decent zoom.

I shoot different things... mostly animals and right now my nephew. It a really easy camera to use. I love using this camera with the EF 50mm 1:1.8 lens so I recommend that you get that lens too if you dont have it yet. This camera is actually my first DSLR and I got used to it quickly...

they're both similar but it depends on whether you prefer nikon or canon- both have pro's and con's. for a proper comparison, try going to a camera shop and ask for assistance, thats what i did today and it really helped :)

the t1i shoots cleaner video than the d5000. it shoots in 30fps but you can easily just convert to 24fps in your video editor.

I have the Alpha 900 with couple of f/2.8 lenses, but I find it very clunky, so I end up taking out my Olympus more ofthen than the Sony. Also, I'd very much prefer that the Sony left Minolta name on their photo products. Sony has no tradition in making optics etc. Anyway, if I was sponsored by Canon, I'd have no issue using their equipment. But for my own money, I look elsewhere. I am not feeling like pumping money in an already big corporation like Canon.

Yes you can, as with any DSLR, since you have to manually turn the zoom ring on the lens with your hand. It isn't motorised as with a compact.

You can zoom but as your lens changes, your f stop changes. It can make your image darker or brighter while zooming. I don't recommend using it the zoom on video mode. But great camera otherwise!
