Brian Hubbs - author of "A Guide to the Rattlesnakes of the United States"

  • Woulda made nice boots and belt .

  • That is a Canebrake Rattlesnake, closely related to the Timber Rattlesnake, but found at lower elevations. Still, thanks for sharing, and for not killing a beautiful specimen.

  • Yep that thar is one of those alabamy dimonbak rattlers

No... It is a Timber/Canebrake Rattlesnake.

  • wud u do poke him in the ass? hahaha lol

  • Thats a bad mamba jamba rite thur. he even said it was he did he did. lmfao

  • There is no such thing as a Alabama diamondback rattlesnake. That is a Timber Rattlesnake or also called Canebrake..depends where you live.

  • @clee0510 Canebrakes are considered by some to be subspecies of the timber rattler rather than simply an alternate name. Canebrakes do have distinctive chevron banding, whereas other subspecies of C. horridus can have markings that vary widely.

  • @AtarahDerek True, but as being considered being a subspecies it's still the same snake. lol

  • DYK: Thomas Jefferson loved these snakes and thought the timber rattler should be our national symbol. It did become a symbol of the Revolution, gracing the yellow field of a flag above a caption that read, "Don't tread on me."

  • @AtarahDerek Interesting fact.

  • thts a timber/canebrake

  • He's trying to get away thats what most of them do. If you provoke them you WILL get bitten if you don't heed to it's warning.

  • poke him with a steek

  • thas not a diamond back u idiot

  • Bi crocky, what a beut!

  • I love my state! haha

  • that would be a timber or canebrake rattlesnake not a alabama diamond back u bad mamajama retard

  • @zillawesomesuace

No need to get nasty LOL. It is a Canebrake.

  • sounded like Boomhauer from King of the Hill.

  • These are the same people who go to tea party meetings.

  • Make fun of these gentlemen all you like, but you may want to note how they show some awe and respect for one of the fascinating animals in the United States.

Crotalus horridus....not a very apt name considering timber rattlesnakes tend to be shy moreover, they give a warning before they strike.

    Good video gentlemen.

  • @TheWoltCanada "Horrid" doesn't refer to people's perception of the snake. "Horrid" comes from "horrere," which means, "to bristle or shudder with fear." It can also mean "hairy, shaggy, prickly, rough, frightful." The timber rattler probably earned its name by being the first snake European settlers knew to "bristle" (shake its rattles) when startled.

  • @AtarahDerek Indeed, as a ecologist I tend to forget the latin base words, as well as western history.

So in this case the given latin name does indeed fit aptly. To be honest I do not even know who coined the proper name of the timber rattlesnake, but it would be interesting to find out.

    Nice work.

  • I love to hear Good ole' Boys that like rattlers. I hope they let him live. It sounds like they are the kind of guys that did. God bless em'.

  • sometimes they sound like sprinklers

  • This sounds like the coach on Adam Sandler's Water Boy.

  • Mama jamma? PLEASe dont use Ebonics if your not Black. Stick to how you were raised to talk!

  • @dougiecoolietrini he didn't say " mama jama" dumbass, he said mammer jammer. So fuck you and fuck ebonics

  • @clcasino79 suck...your...mother DRY..lolol

  • i agree, thats definently a horridus

  • That is a timber Rattlerd not a diamond back

  • did you let it live?

  • That's a timber rattler not a diamondback stupid

  • that's a bad mammer zammer right there

  • KOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!

  • 2 inbred rednecks havinng another fun day before getting drunk and watching cars make left hand turns for 2-3 hours, LOL

  • @bluetiege STFU!

  • Even if poisionous snakes were killed off, there are still non-poisionous snakes that could take care of the rodents. The kingsnake, indigo, gartersnake and banded watersnake and others of the non-poisionous variety are more welcome in barns and lawns than a copperhead or rattlesnake.A bite from non-poisionous snakes can still cause infection or tetanus,so make sure you get a tetanus shot if bitten.

  • thats a bad mama jamma

  • Crotalus Horridus, also called the Canebread or Timber Rattler. Not the meanest tempered venemous snake, but his poison is very serious and a large one can give you a mega-dose of it.

  • dugeorge1, Meatcleaver, yeah that is not a diamondback at all. It is a very beautiful timber rattler though.

  • u could have picked him up prob... :D

  • southern men pick up rattelsnakes,,, northern men pickup gays

  • @tomgreen1721 Southern men pick up Budweiser, chewing tobacco, pickup trucks, plows, and their toothless sisters.

  • Get er done!

  • yea just a canebreak. killed a baby in my back yard

  • Why bother a poisionous rattlesnake like that, when it isn't even bothering people and crawling away?

  • I frequently have nightmares about rattlesnakes. Odd that I have never encountered one in the wild. Even though I've walked through their terrain countless times in my life. They were probably all around, outside my family home in Utah, when I was growing up. We had a big place, with lots of wild plant life. I saw other kinds of snakes, water snakes, etc. But never a rattler.

They must have heard me coming, or felt me coming, i.e. vibrations. I made a lot of noise when I walked around.

  • fuckin rednecks

  • Here in the mountains of upstate new york, where timber rattlesnakes are becoming increasingly rare I have seen one as big around as a grapefruit and almost 6 feet long. they are the 3rd largest rattler in the united states but they are not aggressive The only danger would come from handling one or stepping on it or too close to it. I stay back a few feet when I'm filming them. We also have copperheads which are not nearly so large.

  • in the lowland south, timber rattlesnakes have a subspecies called the canebrake rattlesnake. they usually have a brownish line down the ridge of their back and the distinctive cross bands of the timber rattler. same species- crotalus horridus

  • that is a canebrake rattler

  • @TheMelodicmaster Timber rattlers are the most prolific rattle found in the entire SE now that eastern diamondbacks have become rare. That is a timber rattler in the video---end of story.

  • Definitely Timber. The big hint? No diamonds!

  • If you had a choice would your rather encounter in the woods, the rattlesnake or these men? I think the rattlesnake might be the safer bet. No offense it's the thick rural accent. I'm used to it, nothing a pistol cannot tame. Oo wee, look da size a dat gun strapped d' his belt. That's Mississippi Redneck commenting about my 6' Ruger .357.

  • you stupid ass rednecks if you would have stayed in school insted of banging your sister in the ass you would know that is a timber rattler u joe dirt fucks

  • @killersiverb Well obviously you are highly intelligent so perhaps you could have found a better way to correct their misidentification of that snake. Before you start calling people names because they talk with a southern draw you should have been happy that they were showing such respect for a creature most people would have killed upon encountering. They never claimed to be ophiologist, they saw something you don't see everyday and decided to share. We should thank them.

  • @ondfritz2 thanks man, many a folk would have killed the snake right off, these guys spoke good words about this awesome animal, for that I respect them. I am happy to see this video

  • @killersiverb haha that's so fuckin funny...My husband and I just moved here and some people here are really weird ....so I'd agree wit ya...

  • Not a DIAMONDBACK but a timber rattler!!!

  • thats a real pretty snake, it looks like a mixed snake. Good find!

  • MAN THAT CANEBRAKE WOULD LOOK GOOD ON SOME BOOTS!

  • @Txbreedandraised i agree

  • Get er' done? Gotta love rednecks...

  • actually I don't know if I got bit by a rattlesnake or a copperhead.. someone tell me the difference.............

  • They know it is not a diamondback. Canebrake is just a fancy name for timber rattlesnake. Some Hill Billy professor wanted to be different so he called their timbers canebrakes. One idiot was killed by one in Alabama a couple of years agp when he was drunk & grabbed one by the tail.

  • i killed a timber rattler about that size this weekend... it had a rabbit in its stomach =0

  • The accent>>>>> Lol

  • Holy Christ!...What language was that?!

  • Fucking inbred Jethros!

  • oh fuck id be so scared

  • This is a timber rattlesnake. Crotalus horridus. Not as big as the Eastern Diamond back rattlesnake, which is the largest of the rattlesnakes. Beautiful snake.

  • That is NOT a Diamondback!. That is a "canebreak" or what the ol' timers call a "velvet tail" rattler. Large and beautiful but not as potent as the Diamondback rattlers, eastern or western !!!. He'll still do massive damage if you're hit by one. Be safe, dont get stupid and you won't get bitten.

  • Dang thats big for a rattle snake

  • That's a canebrake,not a diamondback.Beautiful snake.Not usually bad tempered

  • that's a "bad mammyjammer" right there...mmm-hmmm, yeah boyyy

  • Largest one I ever saw here in NY state was nearly 6 feet long and thick as a grapefruit. Crotalus horridus- canebrake/timber rattler

  • It's a timber rattler (canebrake) not a diamondback.

  • @dugeorge1 Yeah the way u tell a diamond from that is THE DIAMONDS ON THE BACK lol

  • i wouldve. or i wouldve thrown your pansy ass next to it nd then watch you change your mind face867

  • I think that was a velvet tail Rattler. You see how he had a black clolored tail. I get those two mixed up all the time.

  • that was neither a velvet or a dioamond it was a cranebreak/timber rattle snake

  • haha such hillbillys

  • holy fudgestickles that thing is HUGE how could u mess with it though? that thing could strike u easy being that big

  • not a dimand back

  • yep it's a canebreak. They can be really problematic for turkey hunters in MS and AL. I'll see some next week getting ready for deer season. Always do.

  • Those guys talking sound like the a-typical hillbilly!

  • The atypical??? As in not typical. Damn, how did NASA ever let you go?

  • lol seriously when i read that i was like wtf...a-typical? stop trying to sound smart using words that you dont even know what they mean.

  • @jholdaw2 Uh...atypical means "not typical". Damn, looks like we got another 'thank tank' ge-knee-us!

  • thats a canebreak not a edb shiesh i keep both species -_- verry verry diffrent snakes

  • Crotalus horridus. Timber or canebreak rattler

  • thats a damn timber rattler what a DA

  • cane brake is right

  • thats a cane brake

  • thats a bad mamer jamer right there!

  • This is a timber rattler, AKA "canebrake rattler", Genus and species Crotalus horridus. It is the rattler featured on the proper American flag: you know, the flag of individual freedom as opposed to the flag of mindless collective central bank serfdom (and illegal wars of aggression) that came later. ...But I digress...

    "Don't tread on me"

  • Actually a canebrake is a morph of the timber rattlesnake only found in certain coastal areas. The Timber and the canebrake have differences. The canebrake has two orange stripes that run down its back, whereas the Timber Rattlesnake does not. But you're right, they are both Crotalus Horridus. Although, this specimen is actually a Timber Rattlesnake.

  • that isnt a diamond back...its a timber rattler....i used to live in texas so i see alot of um...the biggest tell is his black end of his tail...diamond back acually have dimonds on thier back

  • lmfao touch him on the ass lmao

  • Just a little tip. Not to hurt you in anyway, but the other commenters are correct. it is a timber rattlesnake and it wouldnt hurt if you aquired some decent herping skills. next time , dont anger it with a broomstick. leave it alone or put it back in its habitat wherever you think it may have come from

  • that aint no diamond back thats a sho nuff timber rattler

  • That would make my cowboy hat some nice hatbands for it

  • timber rattler!!!!!!!

  • The guy who touched the snake sounds like Brad Pitt in Kalifornia...hahahahahahha

  • yea seriously its a timber/velvet tail/canebreak rattler not a d back dumb dumb

  • nice find. not a diamondback though, its Crotalus horridus (Timber rattlesnake)

  • beautiful snake

  • im southern

  • its a timber rattler aka velvet tail rattle snake

  • That is a timber rattlesnake.

  • how the hell can u have one of these things as a PET????

  • it sounds like Boomhauer from king of the hill

  • As a matter of fact that is the Mammer Jammer Trouser Snake.

  • smartass :P

  • Is that a cousin to the One-Eyed Trouser Snake?

  • That is actually a timber rattlesnake.

  • Why the heck is BILL CLINTON pokin sticks at snakes rattlers?

  • looooooooooool

  • Timber rattler. Leave it to stupid fucking rednecks to not even know the species of a snake in their own fucking yards!!!

  • Thats not a Diamondback, thats a Crainbrate or Timber Rattlesnake.

  • Is That A EasternDiamondBack Are You In Alabama

  • Where in Alabama is this?

  • It could be anywhere in Alabama, believe me. It could even be in Jefferson County (where Birmingham is), or Tuscaloosa. Maybe even in Huntsville.

  • im going to add mammer jammer into my vocab.

  • well said :P

  • This is a Timber Rattler, not a Diamondback. Might help to learn what kind of snakes you're talking about before making yourself look foolish.

  • actually codernur is right. that is a timber rattler. Can u see any diamonds on its back?

  • That's a timber rattler.

  • hahahahahhaahhaahahah rednecks.

  • thats a bad mammer-jammer right there...

    lmfao

  • catch it!

  • dumb rednecks thats a timber rattlesnake. haha.

  • hahahahaha

  • a killer sanke is

  • Why so much hate? This is a nice video. Some folks found a rattler and admired it. What else is there to spark this heat?

  • Totally agreed. These guys were cool with the snake and just enjoyed seeing it and how beautiful it's markings are. As far as them being able to name the species...Most people don't like snakes and aren't interested in them enough to learn anything about them. But that doesn't make them stupid. I bet nobody reading these comments can name all the spiders, or even the birds, in their own backyards.

Also...personally... hillbillies or not, I dig these guys southern accents.

  • str8 canebrake

  • Yeah, you guys are right. That's a Timber rattlesnake (in the south "Canebrake", with the distinctive banded pattern), Crotalus horridus. That's no diamondback.

  • you can hear coyotes in the background at the begeining

  • i dont know what you're talking about, you hear crickets and when it starts to rattle you hear a guy laughing in the background

  • Them there called rooster you hear, maybe a chicken or two...coyotes...lmao

  • That is actually a Timber/Canebrake Rattlesnake, all I am am wondering is...-How do these rednecks manage to operate comnputers?

  • im from alabama too but im not a dumbfuck thats a timber rattler

  • yea what the fuck is worng with you guys calling them rednecks

    but that isnt a dimondback

  • They could have chopped that motherfuckers head off and gave you a reason to cry you fuckin pussys. But they didnt so quit your bitching.Just because their rednecks doesnt mean their stupid. You call us rednecks ignorant well take a look at yourself. You dont have a life so you have to get on youtube and make fun of people because they talk different than you and I think people like that are ignorant.Grow up bitches.

  • What the hell is wrong with you idiots?Your calling them names even though they didnt even bother that snake. They might be rednecks but at least they arent fucking queer like you.

  • START ACTING STUPID .BAD MAMER JAMMER

  • DEM WHITE BOY'S TALK JUST LIKE US LOL

  • kill em when ye can...that a way ye know they won't be a bitin yer kin folk...yepp...

  • Sorry to disappoint, but that is not an Eastern Diamondback! It is in my opinion a very large Timber or Canebrake Rattlesnake. Judging by the markings on the body and the shape of its head. It also lacks the banding on the tail end before the rattle...which is a common marking of Diamondbacks. In the case of this particular snake-the tail end is almost completely black, and the dark zig-zag banding on the snakes body are the unmistakable markings of a Timber Rattler!

  • You are a pussy ass country bitch if you really want them to kill that rattlesnake!
