Thanks for this video. I have been skeptical about getting this oven due to the few bad reviews that are out there. I believe now I will give it a try.
@MrLeatherman1 ~ Right now on our website (millersgrainhouse - dot - com) we have them on sale, with shipping and a dehydrating package. The manufacturer has the sale ending Dec 31. We love ours! Use it every chance we get. .... In the winter it still works great as long as we get sun! (o:
these directions were great- i baked a cake in it afterwards. it was great. we love our sun oven. i could see it being useful in an urban setting- for rooftop cooking. also useful when fuel supply is low or even good to cook without having to build a fire. This is a great tool. i want to learn how you browned bread..?! I will be using my sun oven tomorrow... A hurrincane is coming our way, i hope we have some sun in those days.. i enjpoy your videos!
@brainnoise1 ~ Thank you for your kind comment and encouragement! Well the manufacturer says you can brown the bread by spraying it with a light mist of water just before putting it in. I did not do that however. When I bake bread I oil the bottom of the pan and then put the loaf in (seam side up) and roll it in the oil (to seam side down) so the top is 'oiled' a bit. I'm thinking that did it for the browning.
AH! I just made brownies and they are perfection! I now have BBQ chicken in there getting ready for dinner. My kids have had fun learning all about sun oven cooking today. How fun!
@kissacooper ~ Oh WOW! I wish there were a way to give this comment a 'two thumbs up'!!! Isn't this the coolest hot little thing ever! Thank you so much for sharing your brownie victory with me! I haven't tried brownies yet...hmmm.... going to look at tomorrows weather! (o:
I've heard someone say that the Global Sun Oven gets so hot that it can burn food. That doesn't sound correct. How hot have you gotten yours? It seems that it would need to get over 400 to burn. It also seems that we would want to get the solar oven that gets the hottest, since you can always turn them down by turning them away from the sun.
Anyway, what is the highest temperature you have reached in yours?
@TheDenisedrake ~ It does get hot...We've gotten it to 375 with no problem. BUT it does NOT burn food - ever - the fact is how it cooks is by making the food the temp of the air inside the chamber...unlike heating from bottom or top (in an oven) one sidedly....so food does NOT burn.
I left a loaf of bread in for over 30 extra minutes longer than intended (told you I was absent minded) and it was golden and normal and fine. No way could that happen in my regular oven...can you say BRICK!
@thewheatguy Thank you for that information--that's what I thought. And the BONUS is that they have "Reflector Shields" just like a Star Trek space ship! Yeah! ;->
@TheDenisedrake ~ Glad the info helped. Haha! Yeah, I just can't help myself to keep from saying that every time! It's a biproduct of mass 60's re-runs as a child. Oh well. My kids get a kick out of how I can't stop calling them that. (o:
