Correct, the previous day at the SILV dyno shoot out , Rey Cruz 7MGTE made over 900whp with a fairly large turbo. However because of the lack of a good engine management system that did not have any anti-lag feature he had problems at the track pre-spooling it's turbo , therefore the car will fall on its face out of the line .

basically the 7m is amodified truck engine.period. the 1j and 2j are made specifically. the 7m is known to bhg but only with a shitty engine rework or stock gasket. the 1j has better flow through the head but the 2j has less.. personally it really doesnt matter. it all goes down to how you rebuild the engine and how you drive any of those engines are fulli capale of anything although they have their ups and downs

What I know is that the main difference between the comp and Borg Warner is that the COMP is a triple ball bearing , also since is not a off the shelf turbo, it can be configure to meet the exact needs of your engine .
Yea i have heard that alot that people are taking out their motech, and their AEM and going to Haltech.. so it must have a good feedback. And they are about the Price of a new AEM and their better :)
Very good , I think it the best ECU for the buck , they have free updates all the time with new crazy features, it keeps on getting better and better.
shows how capable the 1JZ motor is. MKIII supras are not light, you have a sound system in yours, and the only car to barely beat you is an 1100 hp supra with a chute on the back, very nice.
1JZGTE and 7MGTE with a( torqued down H.G )lol both can make good numbers..im a former 1991 MK3 Supra owner.. my 7MGTE put down 584hp before it was recked... and i wasnt finished modding it up yet :-(
Well it all depends on the tuning, you could boost 3 psi and still blow up the motor if you are runing lean. So it's all on the tuning my friend, and that's a combination of a reliable system with a good ECU and a good tuner
where is the best place to research parts for these motors? I can't seem to find any turbo kits design specifically for the 1jz. I want something big (500-600hp) I also would like after market cams (mostly for the sound and feel at idle even if it doesn't add much power) would either engine work for this type of set up?
I have some parts for the 1JZGTE , but nothing for the VVT-I model other than intake filter and exhaust and the stand alone computer to run it with , but even stock like that the VVTI will propel you into the 12,'s if you leave the hole hard enough

Hello EZFI, the VVTI model has a supperior design and cam timing control , (which the Haltech ECU can control) but the aftermarket support hasn't developed like the 1st gen 1J , so I will suggest try to research on the parts you might want to have in both motors and see their availability , since I believe the heads are different so therefore 1st gen heads components might not fit on the VVTI. I'lll soon post some videos of me tuning a customers VVTI 1JZ model on the Dyno.
Thanks for the comment ,Just save 2K and buy yourself a 1JZGTE supra clip and start from there, dont waste money on a 7MGE , been down that road back in the 90's , you'll end up spending more money on the 7M .

I hear you , everybody always has a friend of a friend cousin that's making XXX amount of HP,but we all know that pushing the 7M pass 20psi with stock head and head bolts will make the head lift up the block so high it'll probably pop your hood open . Even with ARP's and a shaved head+metal head gasket the block will also have to be resurfaced which will means that the block will have to be taken apart so we're talking thousands of dollars already , And this is exactly my point .

The bottom line is that for the money the 1JZ is a superior engine.

@apolloman24 Actually It feels pretty good , my car is still faster , my 1JZ will tear a new asshole on your 7M at the dyno (BTW is 627HP not 679HP ) , 2k is more than $800 bucks and I sleep good at night not worrying about the 7M head gasket going out on me. Also 400HP is easy to put to the ground , 627hp is not as easy .

@mauihawj The whole argument I'm having with apolloman is that the 1JZ is a better engineered engine than the 7M , once both engines are taken apart & understand the engineering behind them , then the difference is clear ,this is the reason why a 1JZ will be able to stay together longer at a higher HP level than a 7M.... to add insult to injury the fact that we're able to compare them both in MAX HP (even though the 1JZ has half a litter less in displacement) is already a + for the 1JZ.

Well it all depends on the tuning, you could boost 3 psi and still blow up the motor if you are runing lean. So it's all on the tuning my friend, and that's a combination of a reliable system with a good ECU and a good tuner

Tell you what , I already did my R&D in the 90's with the 7M , why dont you do your own R&D? . Go to the junk yard..... pull out a 7M , slap it on your car the next day, then RAM 30 pounds of boost through it (in hopes of 753WHP) and see what happens , then come back and talk to me buddy .
