I know Neal went full blown Christian, I was just wondering was this song written pre or post that occasion. Just curious, I don't care what his or your views of God are... I am more curious of what exactly it is, that inspires such beautiful music!!
Let me tell you, I listen to music 24/7 but not once have I ever almost literally fainted while listening to a song, 9:30 to 9:40, that 10 seconds was just..... I mean listening to the song from 00:00, all the way to 9:30 to that 10 seconds is just absolutely amazing, Spocks Beard, Neal Morse, everybody, give them a round of applause.
@waynedrumpal...They are not hearing an alternative to the crap. Progressive rock needs all of it's fans to help advertise it and expose it to people. We know what's real...millions of ears will know what is real also....but they need to hear it. They need to know that there is something out there that is real
I listened to this not much expecting to like it. "Neo-prog. Pshhhhhh King Crimson or Genesis'll kick these guys' asses!" But I actually quite like it! Surprisingly well-written! Will check out more.
Before I started listening to Spock's Beard, I felt the exact same way. Then I listened to their album The Light and had pretty much the same reaction you just did. Check out that, Beware of Darkness, Kindness of Strangers, V, and Snow. They were released before their lead songwriter, Neal Morse left the band. It's a pity they aren't the same without him, he's an incredibly talented musician and songwriter. his solo stuff is really good though, although its super christian...
Ah...there lies the problem. Be it racist, insulting, arrogant, condescending...its still the truth that hurts. The majority of "music" listeners don't want to put out the effort to understand music like this. There is so much going on, so much to grip and process, that your average hiphop, AOR lite rock consumer just passes under this like a slow river under a grand bridge. Yet that's where the money is, that audience. Tragic at best. We can only buy these albums in hopes of more.
@MobileSpies It's not that they don't WANT to understand it, it's that the powers that be find it efficient and convenient to reproduce simple mainstream mind numbing filth to dull down the masses and accept their cheap product(s) which are the majority of music produced by the BIG 4 record labels. Conspiracy? Maybe, maybe not.
@Thycid I'm just saying that they aren't likely to play this on the same station they play Lady Gaga, but there are dedicated progressive rock radio stations.
@jackpaice: Thiefs are the lowest possible people on the planet. Too sad some seem to want to be such losers. But hey, keep stealing and fill up those nice prisons.
My thought exactly. First time on played the CD and this song, I thought, "Wow, it that Tony Banks as guest pianist?" But, it was probably just more of paying homage to the Genesis influence on their band...
These guys are awesome! It's unfortunate I didn't run into them earlier. Compared to most other modern rock bands, they definitely are much more creative, both in their song structures and riffing.
the name IS influenced by star trek, and for those of you who say "yeaa i watched a few episodes and spock never had a beard" well your most definitely wrong. in mirror, mirror, an episode of the original star trek, the crew is transported to a mirror universe. Kirk, Uhurah, Scotty and some other dude were transported on the ISS Enterprise, a Terran Empire ship. The mirror spock had a beard. hence the inspiration for Spock's Beard. HA! TREKKIES RULE!
what makes you think I'm a trekkie (btw)? Calling you a twat because you define a group of people twats can be (and in this case is) based purely on the simple fact you addressing that large group of people.
Is there any healthy obsession you've managed to come across in your life? If yes, please enlighten me, as I didn't ...
i never said you're a trekkie if you check above, i know all about being defined in a particluar group of people as it happens me everyday and i never argued your motive for calling me a twat, it was justified
i dont want to sound like a tool here by saying this but masturbating is a healthy obsession as it reduces the chances of prostate cancer, socialising is another which provides differnet benefits and a fitness obsession is obviously healthy as well..... it improves your heath.
man you guys cant tell the difference between an unhealthy obsession and a favorite tv program. those stereotypical trekkies who dress like members of the crew every single day dont exist. you suck for generalising, and you suck for not having an open mind.
It´like... there´s something "Queenish" about this music... but I can hear some Pink Floyd when listening to it... maybe a little Dream Theater... even something that reminds me of Symphony-x...and yet, is so different from all these bands... OMG it´s just amazing !!
When I first heard this song I was still a very lonely guy (still 5 years away from meeting the woman who would become my wife). I just couldn't stop listening to this song and it would make me so totally emo. But it's a great song and it helped me stay sane when I needed it, and that's all you can ask from a great song.

@MasterYumyums Sorry, but this is no neo-prog, it's just retro symphnoic rock. IQ and Marillion are neo-prog: you'll hear the difference right away;)
JeffELOLynne 1 month ago
@JeffELOLynne are you sure its not Neo retro symphonic rock ?
Gookbuster1 1 month ago
@Gookbuster1 The term "retro" already implies that it's not original but a neo-style of something, so you can't say neo-retro;)
