And that's what most republicans said. They did not believe Obama the man, Obama the human, is ready for the job. They didn't trust his lack of experience, they didn't trust his political stance. It was never about race.
The question should never be "Is America ready for...?" The question should be "Is this person right for our country?" It doesn't matter what they are; but it does matter who they are.
Hawkeye Pierce would've voted for Matt Santos over Arnie Vinick. Then again, in Hawkeye's day, before Ed Muskie became Governor in 1954 and then Senator in '58, the other kind of M.D. he was, a Maine Democrat, was rare indeed.
It pains me to point out that Senator Obama is just as "white" as he is "black" (assuming people are colors). His mother was "white"; his father was "black." He is a member of the human race, a mammal, born in the US, and over 35. So the question shouldn't be whether we are "ready for a black President," as he is just as white as he is black. The question should be, "Can America afford NOT to elect him as President?" That question can only be answered with a resounding "NO"!! VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN
