After six weeks on Propecia I was impotent and lost my libido. Penis sensitivity has been reduced and I have no pleasure or feelings from orgasms. 5 years later the side effects are still there.

Hey guys, been on Propecia for 3.5 years, I'm 28, grew back almost all hair that was thinning in vertex and hairline, and my libido actually improved after taking it. I know this for sure, since before I started taking it I had problems, and after a year on it, libido just got better. I do believe there's probably long-term effects for some people, I mean you're messing with hormones, but I just monitor myself and will keep taking it. It has done wonders for my confidence and cannot complain.

@GameRelatedStuff It has worked well for me, i was able to keep my hair and regrow some that i lost. the mild side effects for me were testicular pain and lower semen production. i only take it for 7/8 months a year so i give my body a break. If you are serious about keeping your hair either propecia or a hair transplant. why dont you give it a shot for 6 months and see how you feel

@petitprince1 I have been thinking of starting taking avodart instead I heard it was stronger and more effective in hariloss than propecia...but im not sure yet...those drugs scares me the ability to not get an erection is just horrific for me.... what if I cant get a boner anymore if I take it? never jerk off ever again just to slow down my hairloss and maybe keep some of my hair for the next 10-15 years kinda stupid risk

@GameRelatedStuff It does not, at least it didn't happen to me. However, I experienced occasional testicular pain and a decrease in semen production. But those side effects went away as soon as I came off propecia

@GameRelatedStuff I have been onand off propecia for 8 years, i take it for about 8 months a year then i give myself a break for 4 months. i start losing my hair after 3 months. my side effects went away within 2/3 weeks. propecia works well ofr memy baldness is hereditary. for side effects depends on the person, it works for me might not work for you. hope it helps
@petitprince1 well im not gonna risk not getting a boner for the rest of my life just to keep some of my hair for 10 years cuz this drug is not a permanent fix you know it only slows down your hairloss...ur still gonna go bald one day... im hoping for a real cure in like 10 years either from "stem cells" or "hair cloning" or something else.... lets say I take propecia now at 23...there is NO way im gonna keep all my hair when im 40 years old or 50 for that matter
@GameRelatedStuff any side effect (only 5% of people taking propecia claim to have them) will wear off within days you stop taking the drug. but fair enough. how about hair transplant? i am gonna quit propecia for good now and will get a transplant next year
@petitprince1 well I read that you have to take propecia after a hairtransplant to prevent your new transplanted hair to fall off thats what they recommend I read about it... but I can be wrong... btw so how long have u taken propecia now? do you think I should even consider starting taking propecia now at 23? @GameRelatedStuff it depends on how serious you are about keeping your hair, as i said side effects will go away after a few days you are off the propecia, at 23 you are young so if you go bald before you are 25 you might want to get a more long-term solution like hair transplant, propecia should be a medium-term strategy
@gattonero583 well propecia is only a temporary fix...it will only slow down hairloss never stop it...people that use propecia will still be bald in a few years I heard it stops working after 10 years....yet again it only slows down hairloss so you might keep most of your hair for another 10-15 years MAX.... but it also depends on how aggressive your hairloss really is. ..to be impotent for LIFE just to keep your hair for another 10-15 years is absolutely not worth it..
I´m 32 y/o and I´ve been on propecia for nearly 2 years now. Shit happens I guess and I´m that 1 in 100 men who exhibits the entire array of side effects. Though I´ve managed to deal with them (not with ease). The really lame part is that after 2 years I have nearly no hair left and the falling shows no sign of stoping. I was half way from complete baldness when I started, now I´m only a few 100 hairs away from it. Burnt money I guess, wouldn´t recommend it based on my experience.
Accutane has been known to cause sexual side effects too. Hans Peterson killed Dr. David Cornbleet for prescribing him accutane and consequently causing him impotence. like finasteride (for hair loss), accutane(for acne) has caused very similar side effects. I don't see Hans as a bad person. he was confused and angry at his doctor for misguiding him about the drug. I am too with my doctor for causing me these problems so i have empathy for Hans. i don't think he deserves the hate criticism.

I took my second pill of Finasteride today and although I might partly be imagining it because I've been reading hundreds of Propecia horror stories by now, there is a certain "feeling" to my dick now - not exactly coldness but something like it. I can't imagine side effects kicking in after *two pills*, but whatever the case I'm feeling sexually worse now than a few days ago and two pills will be all I consume of this drug. Hopefully nothing really bad has had time to happen yet.
i have been taking this drug for 2 years, look make no mistake about it, it does what it says it stops hairloss, i havent had any shedding since i took it, i do believe though it does have sides, im lucky cause mine are minimal, like i dont ever get random boners anymore, but when it comes to crunch time i have no problems, i do believe the guys like in this video, you just have to make a decision whats more important having hair or your penis fucntion, guess im just lucky i havent lost tht

I've used finasteride for about 11 years. It has helped me maintain a full head of hair, without causing any observable side effects. I guess I'm lucky. I wonder how this medicine causes impotence in those who are sensitive to it. Anyway, good luck getting better. The published data, side effect occur in less than 2% of patients, is jus a gimmick to get you to buy the damn thing. 100% of the man who I have known suffered from sexual side effects. Do keep using this if sexual side effects are not of concern. Even using it for a few days will cause the side effects which will take years to go away. Do your search about the side effects before you start using it.
Unlike most of you, I took finasteride to address a debilitating chronic prostatitis. I seriously doubt the numbers that people are coming up with %wise. I have seen up to 20% of users suffering side-effects. At 5mg a day I can safely say that I had total sexual dysfunction while on the product. Worst yet I have been off the drug for 2 months and have had only mild improvement, if any at all. If you value having sex than stay away from this drug. It changes who you are.
I've been waiting for 1 1/2 years for something to happen. Well it's been 1 1/2 yrs and the only thing that has change in my life is my new hair. i took finasteride for month only and my libido totally disappeared. this was nothing like happens in the 'head'. I could clearly feel this and my wife aswell. Erections were harder to achieve and shorter sustained. I stopped and it took a few weeks before all was normal again. If you are usually a horny guy that thinks and does sex every day, but suddenly you can go a week without wasting a thought, you can be sure something is wrong. I used this poison for about a year. I stopped 4 years ago when I started to notice a big drop in libido. After I stopped I became allmost impotent, and it has barely gotten any better in the 4 years. FUCK merck!
On all the hairloss forums I visit, the large majority of people have positive experiences with Propecia. Just remember that the unhappy ones are always the loudest.
The most insiduous thing about finasteride side-effects are how a lot of people don't notice it at first. If you're only losing about 5% of your libido in a year, you probably won't notice much in the first couple years. Using it long term, though, would be like a death wish. Merck is able to tweak the statistics because most guys don't notice much during that first year, so a huge number of cases go unreported...
guys i have been taking this for 1 year. i think i have mild effects, i am not as horny as i used to be, but i am not sure.. libido and ED is a very mixed phenomenen.but ysterday i hooked up wiht a chick and i was tired because of work and sports and lack of sleep i had a good wood but once she got on top and we changed positions i lost my wood..i am worrying its propecia but maybe its cuz i was tired, i still get erections whn i want but less random day erections..

@putzputz777 My hairline started receding last summer I began shaving my head and it really isn't bad at all.I thought it was gonna be terrible but It really isn't. You just have to wear your attitude well. If you're gonna go around mopey and depressed over it, people are gonna pick up on that. But if you walk around like your usual self, you'll be fine. And lots of girls like the bald thing, it can have a lot of character BUT YOU MUST remain confident about it or girls will see you differently
@JetBlack7000 i've taken propecia for years, i dont have any tits, my eyes havent sunk, I was diagnosed with depression long before I ever even needed propecia so i know it wasn't a factor there, I still rock a boner atleast once a day lol. i know dozens of people with propecia scripts and i've never met a person in the real world who suffered from side effects.

@jsbjr86 You're very fortunate. I would like to give the drug a shot but the risks are just too heavy. Being bald isn't the end of the world anyway. In fact I noticed more girls are attracted to me now than when I had my hair, so I guess that helps me find peace with it. And that's what it's really about, accepting who you are. It would be nice to be able to fix it, but if I can't, fuck it, I'm still gonna live.
@JetBlack7000 i dont dissagree with what you're saying, i feel awful for people who have side effects, but i asked my doctor and dermatologist before I started taking and they both told me the side effects weren't common, and when they did occur they werent permanent.

Every drug has a contingent of users (well ex-users), who are very dissatisfied by the product because of the side effects. We all have different bodies and we all react in a different way to substances that are brought into our bloodstream. Aspirin has caused far more and far serious problems. There are also anti-aspirin activists out there.
Of course, I'm not an advocate for Propecia. It's a drug, and it manipulates with hormonal balance. The moral is that there are always two sides.
it seems like there is no connection between the brain and the penis. further research and proper investigation about this drugs are necessary. i think the study conducted by merck are not represent the majority of men. propecia has side effects and its permanent. some maybe claim that they are not affected BUT that's only a matter of time. this side effects is real and very true.
propecia is rubbish. it has no affect on me what so ever apart from the fact my hairloss speeded up and never slowed down as i was told it would. after using propecia, rogaine, laser comb and getting fit my hair loss continued. in the end i shaved it right down and that turned out to be the best thing i could have done. i never had any side affects but if you wanna try go ahead but im 100% sure you will only be disapointed. all the best. this was a honest review of propecia.
@jimbobusm Be patient brother. You don't have to use these products forever because they can be cycled just like body builders cycle their steroid usage. Another thing, hair falling while treating it is normal. Hair fall while using a product mostly means that it's working and your hair follicles are going into a new growth face for new hairs to grow. Trust me, I've been using Saw Palmetto, Rogain and Maxi Hair Vitamin and I can't complain.

Propecia destroyed my libido, sensitivity of penis and also my ability to maintain erections. It has been 10 years + and it isn't getting any better. I started taking Propecia when i was around 24 and had absolutley no problems in bed or when using my hand. The only thing i took at that time was Propecia and when I see other people on the internet with the same thing it made me feel a little better that I'm not crazy or alone. Merck owes me 12 years of my life back.

Iv been on it for 2.5yrs and had no los of libido etc for at least 2 years, but over the past couple of months i have had a significant loss of libido, but have had some very stressful things happen in my life at the same time so cant say whether its the propecia or the stress... hi I am 24 now and this is not really related to finasteride but i have taken a drug that has caused me and so many others long term side effects. for me, it was accutane for acne but you guys took propecia for hair loss. Roche (the makers of accutane) like Merck, have evidently known about the dangers but hid them from the public. A lot of our side effects are similar to what you guys experience so we have our share of suffering too. and i just want to say I feel your pain.

P.S. My father also had aggressive hair los, when he was around 28 or so and propecia first came on the market he started taking it. Before he had aggressive hair loss and with 27 he already was Norwood 4-5, after he started taking fin, he didnt regrow hair but even till today(hes about 45 now) he still has NW 4-5, and he´s still healthy, till today he had 0 side effects. I agree fin isnt suited for all, but in most cases it does work! and if u rly wanna stop balding u should at least try it.

im taking fin to since 1 year and 2 months by now. Side effects so far absolutely 0! I has hair loss since i got 19 already, and since about 20 i started taking finasteride, after trying alot of useless and expensive other shit(alpecin, revivogen etc. all didnt work, i still lost my hair). Since i combined fin and minox i was able to stop the hair loss, i evenr regrew a small line if hair back, its not 100% of what it used to be, but still im glad it seems to work for me without side effects.

Sorry but u americans often really imagine ur own sicknesses... u know loss of libido, brain fog, sunken eyes, femalization or loss of beard, ok they can occur in a fin theraphie and we know it. But sorry panic attacks, as i said in german boards, till today not 1 person had panic attacks under fin. Thats what i mean when i say, u guys imagine ur own problems/sicknesses... and y u guys often tend to blame or flame about shit(in this case bout fin), instead of giving constructive criticism.

Hello all, i take propecia now for 10 years, i am German 36 years old, and in my country many young men take that drug. i have no side effects, everything is normal, ok i get not that much more hair, but the hairloss stops. my urologist gave the drug the first time to me and explain me everything. he is controlling my psi level and it is normal. i am scare now, because i read the negative comments. i think it is only 1 mg, my body is normal, and i feel good. good luck to everybody

I want to say one thing about Propecia i don't have side effects the only truth is that there are people that can take it without any problem and people that can't take it. However if you notice problems you can solve them simply just not taking these pills anymore

This is definitely nerve racking information. I've been taking Propecia since I was 18 (now 29) and am probably one of the first to start taking it. I have a twin brother, and he's definitely very thin on top, while I have a full head of hair, so it *definitely* works. I also haven't really noticed any side effects, but who knows if it's a 10% decrease in sexual function or even 20%.
However, thinking back, I know I'm not quite the same as I was when I was younger, even a year after.

Hey guys, been on Propecia for 3.5 years, I'm 28, grew back almost all hair that was thinning in vertex and hairline, and my libido actually improved after taking it. I know this for sure, since before I started taking it I had problems, and after a year on it, libido just got better. I do believe there's probably long-term effects for some people, I mean you're messing with hormones, but I just monitor myself and will keep taking it. It has done wonders for my confidence and cannot complain.

@GameRelatedStuff It has worked well for me, i was able to keep my hair and regrow some that i lost. the mild side effects for me were testicular pain and lower semen production. i only take it for 7/8 months a year so i give my body a break. If you are serious about keeping your hair either propecia or a hair transplant. why dont you give it a shot for 6 months and see how you feel

I´m 32 y/o and I´ve been on propecia for nearly 2 years now. Shit happens I guess and I´m that 1 in 100 men who exhibits the entire array of side effects. Though I´ve managed to deal with them (not with ease). The really lame part is that after 2 years I have nearly no hair left and the falling shows no sign of stoping. I was half way from complete baldness when I started, now I´m only a few 100 hairs away from it. Burnt money I guess, wouldn´t recommend it based on my experience.

Accutane has been known to cause sexual side effects too. Hans Peterson killed Dr. David Cornbleet for prescribing him accutane and consequently causing him impotence. like finasteride (for hair loss), accutane(for acne) has caused very similar side effects. I don't see Hans as a bad person. he was confused and angry at his doctor for misguiding him about the drug. I am too with my doctor for causing me these problems so i have empathy for Hans. i don't think he deserves the hate criticism.

I took my second pill of Finasteride today and although I might partly be imagining it because I've been reading hundreds of Propecia horror stories by now, there is a certain "feeling" to my dick now - not exactly coldness but something like it. I can't imagine side effects kicking in after *two pills*, but whatever the case I'm feeling sexually worse now than a few days ago and two pills will be all I consume of this drug. I've used finasteride for about 11 years. It has helped me maintain a full head of hair, without causing any observable side effects. I guess I'm lucky. I wonder how this medicine causes impotence in those who are sensitive to it. Anyway, good luck getting better. The published data, side effect occur in less than 2% of patients, is jus a gimmick to get you to buy the damn thing. 100% of the man who I have known suffered from sexual side effects. Unlike most of you, I took finasteride to address a debilitating chronic prostatitis. I seriously doubt the numbers that people are coming up with %wise. I have seen up to 20% of users suffering side-effects. At 5mg a day I can safely say that I had total sexual dysfunction while on the product. Worst yet I have been off the drug for 2 months and have had only mild improvement, if any at all. If you value having sex than stay away from this drug. It changes who you are.

I've been waiting for 1 1/2 years for something to happen. Well it's been 1 1/2 yrs and the only thing that has change in my life is my new hair. i took finasteride for month only and my libido totally disappeared. this was nothing like happens in the 'head'. I could clearly feel this and my wife aswell. Erections were harder to achieve and shorter sustained. I stopped and it took a few weeks before all was normal again. The most insiduous thing about finasteride side-effects are how a lot of people don't notice it at first. If you're only losing about 5% of your libido in a year, you probably won't notice much in the first couple years. Using it long term, though, would be like a death wish. Merck is able to tweak the statistics because most guys don't notice much during that first year, so a huge number of cases go unreported...

You just have to wear your attitude well. If you're gonna go around mopey and depressed over it, people are gonna pick up on that. But if you walk around like your usual self, you'll be fine. And lots of girls like the bald thing, it can have a lot of character BUT YOU MUST remain confident about it or girls will see you differently

@JetBlack7000 i've taken propecia for years, i dont have any tits, my eyes havent sunk, I was diagnosed with depression long before I ever even needed propecia so i know it wasn't a factor there, I still rock a boner atleast once a day lol. i know dozens of people with propecia scripts and i've never met a person in the real world who suffered from side effects.
i feel bad for anyone who really did/does have side effects but i'd like to see more evidence,

@jsbjr86 You're very fortunate. I would like to give the drug a shot but the risks are just too heavy. Being bald isn't the end of the world anyway. In fact I noticed more girls are attracted to me now than when I had my hair, so I guess that helps me find peace with it. And that's what it's really about, accepting who you are. It would be nice to be able to fix it, but if I can't, fuck it, I'm still gonna live.

@JetBlack7000 i dont dissagree with what you're saying, i feel awful for people who have side effects, but i asked my doctor and dermatologist before I started taking and they both told me the side effects weren't common, and when they did occur they werent permanent.
i find it hard to believe propecia hasnt been sued to hell already if they really have ruined this many lives over the past 14 years or so.
both propecia and rogaine have worked great for me and a lot of other people

Every drug has a contingent of users (well ex-users), who are very dissatisfied by the product because of the side effects. We all have different bodies and we all react in a different way to substances that are brought into our bloodstream. Aspirin has caused far more and far serious problems. There are also anti-aspirin activists out there.
Of course, I'm not an advocate for Propecia. It's a drug, and it manipulates with hormonal balance. The moral is that there are always two sides.

it seems like there is no connection between the brain and the penis. further research and proper investigation about this drugs are necessary. i think the study conducted by merck are not represent the majority of men. propecia has side effects and its permanent. some maybe claim that they are not affected BUT that's only a matter of time. this side effects is real and very true.

propecia is rubbish. it has no affect on me what so ever apart from the fact my hairloss speeded up and never slowed down as i was told it would. after using propecia, rogaine, laser comb and getting fit my hair loss continued. in the end i shaved it right down and that turned out to be the best thing i could have done. i never had any side affects but if you wanna try go ahead but im 100% sure you will only be disapointed. all the best. this was a honest review of propecia.

@jimbobusm Be patient brother. You don't have to use these products forever because they can be cycled just like body builders cycle their steroid usage. Another thing, hair falling while treating it is normal. Hair fall while using a product mostly means that it's working and your hair follicles are going into a new growth face for new hairs to grow. Trust me, I've been using Saw Palmetto, Rogain and Maxi Hair Vitamin and I can't complain.

Propecia destroyed my libido, sensitivity of penis and also my ability to maintain erections. It has been 10 years + and it isn't getting any better. I started taking Propecia when i was around 24 and had absolutley no problems in bed or when using my hand. The only thing i took at that time was Propecia and when I see other people on the internet with the same thing it made me feel a little better that I'm not crazy or alone. Merck owes me 12 years of my life back.

Iv been on it for 2.5yrs and had no los of libido etc for at least 2 years, but over the past couple of months i have had a significant loss of libido, but have had some very stressful things happen in my life at the same time so cant say whether its the propecia or the stress... hi I am 24 now and this is not really related to finasteride but i have taken a drug that has caused me and so many others long term side effects. for me, it was accutane for acne but you guys took propecia for hair loss. Roche (the makers of accutane) like Merck, have evidently known about the dangers but hid them from the public. A lot of our side effects are similar to what you guys experience so we have our share of suffering too. and i just want to say I feel your pain.

P.S. My father also had aggressive hair los, when he was around 28 or so and propecia first came on the market he started taking it. Before he had aggressive hair loss and with 27 he already was Norwood 4-5, after he started taking fin, he didnt regrow hair but even till today(hes about 45 now) he still has NW 4-5, and he´s still healthy, till today he had 0 side effects. I agree fin isnt suited for all, but in most cases it does work! and if u rly wanna stop balding u should at least try it.

im taking fin to since 1 year and 2 months by now. Side effects so far absolutely 0! I has hair loss since i got 19 already, and since about 20 i started taking finasteride, after trying alot of useless and expensive other shit(alpecin, revivogen etc. all didnt work, i still lost my hair). Since i combined fin and minox i was able to stop the hair loss, i evenr regrew a small line if hair back, its not 100% of what it used to be, but still im glad it seems to work for me without side effects.

Sorry but u americans often really imagine ur own sicknesses... u know loss of libido, brain fog, sunken eyes, femalization or loss of beard, ok they can occur in a fin theraphie and we know it. But sorry panic attacks, as i said in german boards, till today not 1 person had panic attacks under fin. Thats what i mean when i say, u guys imagine ur own problems/sicknesses... and y u guys often tend to blame or flame about shit(in this case bout fin), instead of giving constructive criticism.

typical americans... the best thing is, someof u guys even complain about PANIC ATTACKS under fin.Ive been in a good, german hair lossforum for 2 years know, read a lot etc. however, i never ever heard of even 1 cae of someone having panic attacks... but i remember in a thread of some american site there were side effects gathered, which fin users have experienced. and best thing is... every 5th person writes: Panic attacks. Look moron, the drug inhibits neurosteroid synthesis (Allopregnanolone, correlated with mood disorders, cognitive dysfunction & depression... and THDOC, correlated with stress, anxiety/PANIC attacks & seizures). These neurosteroids can then no longer act on the brain's GABA-A receptors to exert anti-depressive and anti-anxiety effects while on Finasteride. still... how come that until today in my forum not 1 person posted about panic attacks....? Dude we also had, gyno/lipo, sunken eyes, brain fog, impotence or loss off libido cases on mass in our forum. Still, not 1 person says he has mental probs or panic attacks under fin, and our forum isnt small, we have thousands of users trying to battle theyre hair loss. I just cant understand how it can be that no one else has panic attacks on my board allthough theyre also taking fin?

the only real mental problems i know, occur in fatigue and tiredness, which can be a result of 2 much estrogen activity causes by fin, and as a result of tiredness no craves for physicall activities are there or ppl dont wanna go out or do sports etc. But still panic attacks 0 0 and again 0...

erm... 69years average first. And second there were only 20men examined which is a very small test group.... Also, u can theorethically supress fins side-effects by taking GABA alongside with fin.

STFU and piss off. Your lack of intelligence on this subject isn't convincing anyone to the contrary. Dr. Jacobs' blog also notes neurosteroids inhibited by Finasteride, READ IT.

Hello all, i take propecia now for 10 years, i am German 36 years old, and in my country many young men take that drug. i have no side effects, everything is normal, ok i get not that much more hair, but the hairloss stops. my urologist gave the drug the first time to me and explain me everything. he is controlling my psi level and it is normal. i am scare now, because i read the negative comments. i think it is only 1 mg, my body is normal, and i feel good. good luck to everybody

i used propecia for about 5 months, within about 2 months my sex drive was diminished, my semen production was greatly reduced, my eyebrows began to thin, I had bowel problems, my chest began to gain fatty tissue beneath the nipple area, confirmed w small stretch marks bilaterally, I dont think its worth it, after i stopped, after a few months sex drive came back, but I can honestly say its not what it used to be, I think its becuase of this drug, no coincidence. im 29 y/o

Wow and I thought it was just me. I tried Propecia about two years ago. In just two months, I saw results; however, I felt like a women. I was depressed and very emotional. My hormones were a mess. I stopped and felt normal again after three weeks. I guess I was lucky.

@DeanGeyer Dutasteride is even worse than Finasteride because it blocks both 5AR enzymes (1 & 2, and 5AR1 is found predominantly in the human brain) and inhibits nearly ~94% of DHT. 5AR inhibitors in general are just a BAD idea for hormonal, physical, sexual and neurological health.

This is definitely nerve racking information. I've been taking Propecia since I was 18 (now 29) and am probably one of the first to start taking it. I have a twin brother, and he's definitely very thin on top, while I have a full head of hair, so it *definitely* works. I also haven't really noticed any side effects, but who knows if it's a 10% decrease in sexual function or even 20%.
However, thinking back, I know I'm not quite the same as I was when I was younger, even a year after.
