Filth! Pure filth! It stank up in here so bad!!!!! I dont know about the rest of you, but when I hear this and other songs & groups who were CAPABLE of making this funk, I cant help but turn my face up like I smell something funky!!! Long live the funk!! Love it man....
Most people don't realize how tight this groove is ... the bass and guitar , damn . MY favorite Cameo song . My opinion , people who dig this more likely to listen to James Brown than Kool and the Gang ... more likely to listen to Barkays than Earth Wind and Fire ..etc etc ...
BY FAR THE BADDEST CAMEO SONG ... I WAS ABOUT 16 WHEN THIS SONG CAME OUT ... REMINDS ME OF SNEAKING INTO THE SUBWAY CLUB BACK IN DETROIT WITH FAKE ID SAYING I WAS 18. ANYWAY, CAN'T NOBODY TELL ME THAT THE MUSIC FROM THE 70S WASN'T THE BADDEST FUNK MUSIC EVER.
Center of the CARDIAC ARREST Album is guitarist ERIC DURHAM (StratosphericTalent.webs.com) who recorded their FIRST 3 Albums. I was 18 when my brother Eric joined "The Players" who changed their name to CAMEO in order to record, since The Ohio Players blocked the use of the original name. None of you PARTIED on this MORE THAN ME - all the after parties, backstage. Cameo opened for Parliament Funkadelic, BarKays, Brass Construction.
@TopsyDurham ..1question is that ur brother on ugly ego if so...he is withou doubt 1 of the funkiest guitarist ever even above the p funk clan..it was all original and black as hell1....my fam still talks about seeing him live
Who can mess wit dat ol skool stuff like dis, riddle me dat. And the answer is, nothin' or nobody. Man o Man, I had to be at least 10 years old when this song first hit scene, and now some thirty years later, it sounds better than ever. And uuh, I still bump this in the ride while bendin' a few corners.
I listened to this song back in 1976 in the basement with my neighborhood friends. I miss this quality of music. the horns-the horns-THE HORNS...........and the bass, too (:
RIGHTEOUS FUNK!!! FROM DA 70'S!!! SON!!! U THINK WHITE FOLKS COULD DANCE 2-THIS? R-HURT THEY BACK, LIKE RICH SAID TRYIN 2- DANCE 2-BAD LUCK!!! LOL PEACE& LOVE!!! CMF TRIBE!!! KICKIN DAT FUNKY VIBE!!!
Larry Blackmon started this group in '74, known then as the New York City Players. By the time this was released they had changed their name to Cameo. This was the jam at the block party when it came out. It sounds just as good as it did when it first came out. You fake funkateers get your pen and pads out and start seriously taking notes!
My Favorite Cameo Song , not biggest hit they had , but it had the Best funky Bass line , guitar and horn groove . WHAT happen , now its all same fkn drum machine sound ....by some drug dealer who bought studio time ...
@phillip98165 no knock to your comment how can you like cameo over funkadelic? they are booth great groups they booth old school i don't undertand that
I'm 33yrs old and its really funny when u have this song playing loud in your car shakin the ground and a older old skooler looks in ur car and gives u the thumbs up or they say what u know bout that young blood Long Live the OLD SCHOOL!!!
@mannishboy69 Well, I'm 17, and i KNOW i'm going to be getting looks from people bumping this stuff in my car. They say the same thing to me. LONG LIVE THE OLD SCHOOL!!!
Thank youuuuuuuu so much!! I have been trying to find out what this F#$Kng song was and it just hit me tonight. I'm back to the Land of the African Big Bands! NAVOI
this is a great horn play, the groups of those days all ways had the best of horns, Con Funk Shun, EWF, Parliment. It was great, that's why we keep going back.!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is that early Cameo funk, when they were 10+ deep with brotha's funkin', and after all of these years, this one may arguably be the funkiest one they ever did, grade A 70's funk, no doubt about it!!
Yes they were 11 until 1983! If I am not mistaken. This is the group I preferred! Larry Blackmons group were ok ,but not as many members were in the band! They were also a little too commercial and Funk less in the latter years. I guess thats what happens when we cross over into Pop! We seem to loose the funk to appeal to other masses.I could be wrong just my opinion! Great comment though3811.!
@1975tooto I liked this version of Cameo better as well...sad part is, I remember when Cameo suffered the plague of being a band with "unknowns." (Not many people could name the band members off the cuff) Con Funk Shun and the SOS Band were the same way.
@1975tooto You got that right! I grew up on Long Island and I knew all of the members of Cameo before they even hit it big! I was introduced by a girlfriend and a friend who went to Amityville H.S with two of them! They paid their dues believe me singing in clubs all over NYC and all over the U.S! They kept their integrity and down to earthness! Great brothers back in the 70s! One of the funkiest bands EVER!
@1975tooto If you look up Cameo's bio you'll see that Larry Blackmon was present with the group in the "New York City Players" days. And if you look at the credits in this song his name is here.
you know it!!!....i remember when this first came out...i was in highschool...music was so good back then...driving to school was dangerous with all the groovers on the highway...at parties the girls would imitate the chick on the background vocals...what times man !!!! peace
I have two copies of this on 7 inch in order to juggle that intro. I love though, how the twelve inch brings the intro back at the end and vamps on it, and it's my fav part of the song by far. Anybody know if there's a 2-part 7 inch out there?
Now you see why George Clinton ,was like dayum....they was one of Parliment Funkadelic last successful tour. THIS JAM IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE FUNK CUTS!!
