  • @aziansn4k3 no, it's not. even in the european cuisine undercooked pork is served. absolutely nothing unhealthy about it.

  • @aziansn4k3 its cured, which means its fine to eat, its like prosciutto

  • @mWAZLIB Ah. Prosciutto. Good stuff! Especially paired with some mozzarella and Basil.

  • Since when is Taiwan a South Pacific nation? It's Western Pacific. South Pacific islands are Tahiti, Fiji and Tonga.

  • He missed a number of things that surprised me including turtle, on odd occasion dog, although it has become far less fashionable you can still find it in Taichung, and the snake market in Taipei. Tea is not very bizarre.

    我听不懂

    LOL!!!

  • i dont think its good to eat bees...they are very essential to the agriculture field...

    anyway lol

  • That is true but i wouldn't think any bee dish would be popular consider most of us would jump at the words spleen sandwich; So their numbers should be be safe at least for now LOL.

  • Those are domestically farmed bees, not wild ones.

  • andrew says everything is "amazing" with that slightly sarcastic tone...it seems like he's not sincere about it...also he seems to have a pretty limited sensory vocab for a traveller/foodie (recap: "...it's good, it's great...like really nutty...")

  • so hungry! damn

  • wo ai TAIWAN!!!!!!!!

  • lol, he didn't have to go to Vietnam for snake soup, we have it in Taiwan :D Hua Shi St. he didn't visit that, too bad! snake soup is actually like "special" chicken soup believe it or not people :), my mom tricked me once to drink Tw snake soup. it's medicinally beneficial. around $4 USD only.

  • justinsage your a faggot

    you should never travel!!!

  • IF IT LOOKS GOOD IT EAT LOL

  • "If it looks good, eat it"

  • He's not mean, he's just awkward. Eating with your mouth open is actually polite in most places. Doesn't bother me

  • seriously, agreed..

  • hes just so perfect for this show!!!! does a brilliant job! if it looks good eat it!!!!!!!!! wow!

  • "if it looks good, eat it!"

  • I LOVE this show!

  • Andrew Zimmern is sort of disrespectful.

  • why is that mean..

  • how is he a jerk? hes just saying how hot the water is, how is that mean? dumbass.

  • your a retard

    you take things to seriously

  • he also chews with his mouth open.

  • I went to the spa he went! :)

  • Two-week old food tastes that good??? Damn...I would never have thought of that...

  • you should wake up all countries have weird eating habbits, and cultures, you just being stupid for not knowing it. your being a poepol - afrikaans for ass hole - you pronounce it like this - poophol

  • I agree people in orther countries might Whatever you eat is werid Like Chicken pot Pie which sounds strange to people in China.

  • lol no it doesnt chicken pot pie isnt wierd to chinese people

  • I'm sorry, but you might have to get your facts straight. It is in fact true on the eating of human fetus, I'm not going to deny that. But it did not happen in Taiwan nor most parts of China, it manly happened in Canton state in China, not many other places do so as well. Please don't be ignorant and insult the whole Chinese race due to something that certain people do. And it is illegal so definitely that's something we did not take lightly as well.

  • @xxnoesamor People never ate fetus in Guangdong. Why you would say such a thing on no grounds is rather unfounded.

  • @xxnoesamor Actually, you're just spreading the rumor and placing the blame on another part of China now aren't you? It's a little conniving but mostly menacing the way you handled it. I've only heard stories of it happening in Taiwan, never "in Canton state in China". I saw an article about it happening and it was proved to be just an urban legend.

  • @lumpymallows The photos of the Taiwanese people eating the fetus were photoshopped. The rumor as a whole should be abolished since there aren't any real facts about it.

  • Comment removed

  • I think sirbananman is a fukc wit.

  • rofl rubber ducky XD 1:09

  • Glad to see that you are a fast learner, not using the term "Unborn Fetus." And yes, like you said we "practically" eat everything that moves, hence, with the word, "practically," we eat a majority so not all. And like I asked before, please get your facts rights, and apparently your facts, like you said above, are your experiences. So I am quite sorry to hear that you've tried human fetus, do you know that that is just gross and wrong?

  • Uh... where on Earth did you hear that from? I highly doubt regular human beings would eat a human fetus, so no we Taiwanese do not eat human fetus. Please double check your sources and get your facts right. Second, an "Unborn Fetus" is an oxymoron, a fetus is biologically "conceived" but not "born." Please finish up your studies in English next time, before you get yourself embarrassed again by being corrected by a non-native speaker. Thank you.

  • oooh I've to go there!!

  • LMMFAO Zimmern's like "it's putrid and sour pork" did you see the look on that girls face lololol

  • By the way, "damamein" is actually spelled "tmmyan", and is an Atayal word that can also refer to any similarly fermented meat, including.

I love the woman at 1:55 who says "Wo ting bu dong" ("I don't understand!") in Mandarin with a charming Aboriginal accent.

  • After going to Dai's House of Unique Stink yesterday, I decided to go to Wulai to eat at Taiya Popo. I ordered the betel nut salad and damamein. (The bees were rather pricy, so I'll try it when I'm with a group.) The woman you see on the show saw what I ordered, and asked if I saw the Travel Channel show. I said yes, and she was very happy. Later she gave me a free cup of millet wine. She's very sweet. The pork tastes like prosciutto with sour yogurt. The salad was like hearts of palm. Both good

  • awesome. i'm planning a trip to Taiwan sometime soon... how far is it from Taipei to Wulai? Did you enjoy your time there?

  • Wulai is very close to Taipei. Go to the Xindian MRT station and take the Wulai bus. Get off at the last stop.

  • wulai is a great place to stay for a day

  • Andrew looks cooked in that hot springs tub. The cured pork looks really interesting.

  • that was a very good show and great introduction of Taiwan food (except the department store one, which is kind of foreign)

  • I wonder what the chances of getting trichinosis from the raw pork are.

  • I believe the curing process kills the germs, which is why curing and salting was invented.

  • Its like ceveche, I think. Raw fish and shrimp cured by chemical reaction with lime juice.

    DELICIOUS!

  • I wander do pickling the pork kill the bacteria? Since eating raw meat can cause problems, so I was wondering

  • ya it killes the bacreria

  • I'm thai and I eat that kind of fermented pork. My mom makes them once in a while. I didn't know that people from Taiwan eats them too.

  • Its actually an aboriginal dish. I've actually never heard of it before, so its not an everyday Taiwanese food.

  • I'm not Taiwanese, but we do eat fermented meat and seafood, so I don't know if its really an aboriginal dish because I'm not an aboriginal either. He didn't have to go all the way to Taiwan to eat that because he could have ate that in the US with all these different cultures here, but I guess its more fun to do that in other countries.

  • American have hot spring?I just wondering.

  • not many if any at all

  • yes, America has hot springs. you just have to find the areas that have them. some are deep in the mountains and others are in the cities. but all you have to do is take a look in the phonebooks over here under hot springs and it'll usually give you a good list to choose from.

  • = = aborigine's food for me likes a American see an a 1000 years old egg. i don't want to eat any bug or or some eldriech animal. This show try to show you guys something different. that's not the best in Taiwan.

Taiwan have a lot of yum food anywhere even the 7-11..

  • this show is not for showing the best food in taiwan or anywhere. as the name states, it's BIZARRE foods. and i dont think you can even compare a thousand yr egg to that fermented meat.

  • hmpf...i wonder if they can build ton of geothermal plant in taiwan and depend 100% on them...if that works, they dont need fossil fuel at all.

  • pork sashimi LOL yuck..

  • I love Andrew Zimmerman, he explains how every culture has "bizarre foods" and we should not judge basis on our own cultures. If you don't like a certain kind of food please don't insult or degrade it in anyway.

  • Andrew Rocks!!

  • Okay... how does being unfamiliar, or uneducated make someone gay? Are you insecure about your masculinity? Do you fear other cultures, and experiences? If so...just stay where you are, and don't make any attempt to piss off good and honorable people...

  • Um...Durian isn't foreign to me, and I still think it's completely putrid.

  • great job! Andrew.... hope to meet you and eat together.harharhar i wish!

  • Hey, at least he gave it a try

  • Sissy...he can eat rotten meat but not fermented tofu? WTF and Durian? Durian is really good and he cant swallow it -__-

  • oh, give the guy a break, i mean, he's a white guy in taiwan.

  • agree, give him a break... remember this is all foreign stuff for him .. and not for u

thanks for uploadin this i enjoyed it

  • he can eat weirder things than you can

  • its good man.. enough with your shit with other people cultures..like chinese!

  • are u fucking kidding me. I AM CHINESE im pretty culinarily diverse so u cant talk shit unless ur chinese too ive eaten jelly fish and bugs and tons of things

  • yes i have..ok im chinese also.. but ur words...really are to much.. if its disgusting what is not digusting? one mans meat is another mans poison

  • k i agree thats true sorry we cool? chinese fo life

  • Bullshit. Stop pulling the "Respect other's cultures" card when someone expresses their opinion.

  • Pfff, that is it? There are so many other "Bizarre" stuffs he had not tried. Such as frogs, poisonous snakes, other seafood, 炒田螺, etc. And I am offended that he bad mouthed raw stinky tofu; just Kidding. Good job anyway. And thanks lovelyTaiwan.

  • He tried all of those in other bizzare food, especially the one in vietnam.

  • he ate fried frogs stuffed with pork in the philippines.

  • OH YEAH!!
