He missed a number of things that surprised me including turtle, on odd occasion dog, although it has become far less fashionable you can still find it in Taichung, and the snake market in Taipei. Tea is not very bizarre.
That is true but i wouldn't think any bee dish would be popular consider most of us would jump at the words spleen sandwich; So their numbers should be be safe at least for now LOL.
andrew says everything is "amazing" with that slightly sarcastic tone...it seems like he's not sincere about it...also he seems to have a pretty limited sensory vocab for a traveller/foodie (recap: "...it's good, it's great...like really nutty...")

Actually...his was a jerk in this episode. I thought the rubber duck and the comment about himself being an ingredient in the healing waters was mean. Jet lag?
you should wake up all countries have weird eating habbits, and cultures, you just being stupid for not knowing it. your being a poepol - afrikaans for ass hole - you pronounce it like this - poophol
I'm sorry, but you might have to get your facts straight. It is in fact true on the eating of human fetus, I'm not going to deny that. But it did not happen in Taiwan nor most parts of China, it manly happened in Canton state in China, not many other places do so as well. Please don't be ignorant and insult the whole Chinese race due to something that certain people do. And it is illegal so definitely that's something we did not take lightly as well.
@xxnoesamor Actually, you're just spreading the rumor and placing the blame on another part of China now aren't you? It's a little conniving but mostly menacing the way you handled it. I've only heard stories of it happening in Taiwan, never "in Canton state in China". I saw an article about it happening and it was proved to be just an urban legend.
@lumpymallows The photos of the Taiwanese people eating the fetus were photoshopped. The rumor as a whole should be abolished since there aren't any real facts about it.
Glad to see that you are a fast learner, not using the term "Unborn Fetus." And yes, like you said we "practically" eat everything that moves, hence, with the word, "practically," we eat a majority so not all. And like I asked before, please get your facts rights, and apparently your facts, like you said above, are your experiences. So I am quite sorry to hear that you've tried human fetus, do you know that that is just gross and wrong?
Uh... where on Earth did you hear that from? I highly doubt regular human beings would eat a human fetus, so no we Taiwanese do not eat human fetus. Please double check your sources and get your facts right. Second, an "Unborn Fetus" is an oxymoron, a fetus is biologically "conceived" but not "born." Please finish up your studies in English next time, before you get yourself embarrassed again by being corrected by a non-native speaker. Thank you.
After going to Dai's House of Unique Stink yesterday, I decided to go to Wulai to eat at Taiya Popo. I ordered the betel nut salad and damamein. (The bees were rather pricy, so I'll try it when I'm with a group.) The woman you see on the show saw what I ordered, and asked if I saw the Travel Channel show. I said yes, and she was very happy. Later she gave me a free cup of millet wine. She's very sweet. The pork tastes like prosciutto with sour yogurt. The salad was like hearts of palm. Both good
I'm not Taiwanese, but we do eat fermented meat and seafood, so I don't know if its really an aboriginal dish because I'm not an aboriginal either. He didn't have to go all the way to Taiwan to eat that because he could have ate that in the US with all these different cultures here, but I guess its more fun to do that in other countries.
yes, America has hot springs. you just have to find the areas that have them. some are deep in the mountains and others are in the cities. but all you have to do is take a look in the phonebooks over here under hot springs and it'll usually give you a good list to choose from.

By the way, "damamein" is actually spelled "tmmyan", and is an Atayal word that can also refer to any similarly fermented meat, including.
