One of the best mystery guest segments. I love Cox's Brando imitation here. A great comic talent who suffered from type casting which contributed to his depression and alcoholism and early death.
"Mr. Peepers" was a wonderful show, with Tony Randall and Marian Lorne in the cast. The scripts were subtle and cerebral with a lot left between the lines. It was all very gentle.
If you watch tony randall archive interview which i afraid is rather long i think its in part 2 tony talks about wally cox saying that wally would have been happier doing something other than acting.
i saw brando (on johnny, maybe?) say that he kept wally's ashes with him and that he spoke to him nightly. so. brando said it, in public, on television. yeah. up late carson would have been the ONLY thing to watch. back then. okay, the thing is that i'm not sure on which show he said it, positively, but i know he said it. cavett? jeez.
Funny elsewhere sure, but here and when Tyrone Power was mystery guest (see that posting) just plain annoying. Sorry WC fans, I would have been tempted to grab him by his dumbass ear and dragged him off the set.
At the time of this comment, I couldn't find any Mr. Peepers episodes. So, if you find any let me know.
I saw a few episodes on TV in the 80s, but the sound quality was bassy and terrible. From my memory, it was a bit corny and the sight gags were the 'foot stuck in a pail' type of comedy. But the show had an endearing quality and it much of it could still give you chuckle.
yes he was his lover. Im in the process of reading a new biography on Brando. Brando supposedly had Wally's ashes after he died and used to talk to them.
I knew Wally Cox wasn't going to have a chance of stumping the panel on this show before I even clicked on this clip :)

Wally Cox and Marlon Brando were room mates. Strange combo.
Wally Cox died at age 48. So young. Apparently he was quite athletic and strong, inspite of his geeky appearance.

Shit he does a perfect Brando impression. Hard to believe they were best friends since they were like 8 yrs. old. Too bad Cox was an alcoholic.

Marlon and Wally were best friends and they lived together in NYC when Brando was at the height of his stage success in Streetcar

Wally Cox was a wonderfully eccentric talent. He was one of the few celebrities on The Hollywood Squares who did his own adlibs.

you may notice that he is imatating Brando who happened to be his best friend.
