@youngwayne212 That was the reason Zhuge liang tried to push for a battle, hence his last 7 battles. Regardless though, after Zhao Yun's death, there wasn't any strong warriors left who could've led the Shu army in the frontline. With the exception of Wei Yan, whom Zhuge Liang didn't trust at all.
Besides, Sun Quan wasn't a match for Cao Pi his son, with them both being more talented than Cao Cao, and Lu Xun wouldn't be able to plot in Sima Yi, Zhuge Liang and Zhou Yu's level.

So then in dynasty warriors 5 (next one I got because heard 4 was bad) that was my first character I chose and was my strongest character with max stats etc. And yes they did ruin him by making his main weapon a giant sword in sw.

@mrbeate to tell you the truth MaChao didnt surrender just like that he fought for what he believed in and thats was protecting his father MaTeng which was one of the leaders of the 5 busheled sect or some shit like that and he fought Shu when they attacked and i think defeated WeiYan there but was soon surrounded due to an ambush planned by zhuge liang and joined after he lost the battle

Eventually Ma Chao was kicked out the army due to trust; Shu came in and raped them and Ma Chao surrendered to Shu cause his army has nowhere to go (they were nomads).

ROTK is ONE BOOK not books. I don't know about his appearance but he was supposed to be an inauspicious man. In real history, it was HIM that caused his father's death. He caused his wife and son's death too. Just read the Chronicles of San Guo (Sanguo zhi).
Where did you read that? I only remember that he said that Mengde executed most of his whole family line, leaving only Ma Dai.
And according to his Comprehensive Bio, I haven't found anything about him killing his wife and son...instead he killed Jiang Xu's Mother and Zhao Qu's son as a revenge for the killing of the majority of his family?
at the time, ma teng was attacked by cao cao and lost huang zhong...he lost it and then joined to fight against liu bei when he tried to take shu, but zhuge liang munipluated him into joining liu bei and thus...there you have it
wtf are u talking, not making any sense here. ma teng the father of ma chao was killed by cao cao, ma chao wanted to revenge but defeated by cao's tricks so he went to join zhang lu's forces at han zhong. At the same time liu bei was attacking liu zhang, liu zhang asked zhang lu for help so zhang lu sent ma chao to attack liu bei's forces and there u see zhang fei 1 on 1 with ma chao.

Well, My whole argument was to point out the ridiculous situation that presented itself in that "dueling" thing. Eventually we came back to it after all.
Maybe next time, before posting, sort out what your brain is thinking instead of what your mouth is babbling.
The dueling was part of the story, it written to keep the reader entertained, that is why it is a historic fiction, because there are elements added for the reader's pleasure.
Next time, sort things out in your brain before you compare two things that are completely unrelated.

All the instances of death and failure I was listing were trying to show the fact:"honorable" dudes get killed/maimed/wiped all over the place in dishonorable ways IN A WAR.
My Original point was that leader of the army was stupid to taunt right in the front, not to mention just to duel later on.

you have to get one fact straight: Taunting and Dueling like this did happen in real history. the novel dramatized it.
What I was saying is simple : those "heroic" "honorable" individuals were risking way too many other people's lives and wellbeings by doing so.
Let ma chao taunt, he didn't even bring siege weapons, let his troop tires out. si ma yi was smart to do it to stem ZHugeLian's 2 northen expeditions. or shoot the dude so the whole battle is over and Yi province will be within grasp.
Honour, Respect, and Chivalry was also part of the Chinese Society back then. Therefore, the government needs to have some of these morals if they were going to rule the people. Chinese Aristocracy back then depended very much on the disposition of the government judged by the people.

the story i dunno is true or not. but the style of battle is correct during that time. both party used to send one jeneral (either main or asssistant) & fight one by one 1st. the reason is to take the risk to show their confidence to leader coz once one of the party win, the spirit of army will raise and they will started the war wif strong confidence.
zhuge liang didn't convince him in the novel (he wanted to go but liu bei didnt allow him, them some guy from ma chao's side defected and zhuge liang thought he could convince ma chao and sent him to ma chao's camp)
the spears are heavy, weight like 60 lbs each or more, i tried to carry one real spear before, no way you can just stab with spear, it will put you in great danger, one you miss, the enemy will slide you. Bet the strong warrior have heavier spear, in physics it will have great advantage when it swing.
This, along with the other three parts, have to be some of my favorite scenes from this series. They did such a good job! The acting, sets, production, music, everything.

at the time, ma teng was attacked by cao cao and lost huang zhong...he lost it and then joined to fight against liu bei when he tried to take shu, but zhuge liang munipluated him into joining liu bei and thus...there you have it

wtf are u talking, not making any sense here. ma teng the father of ma chao was killed by cao cao, ma chao wanted to revenge but defeated by cao's tricks so he went to join zhang lu's forces at han zhong. At the same time liu bei was attacking liu zhang, liu zhang asked zhang lu for help so zhang lu sent ma chao to attack liu bei's forces and there u see zhang fei 1 on 1 with ma chao.

The dueling was part of the story, it written to keep the reader entertained, that is why it is a historic fiction, because there are elements added for the reader's pleasure.

He rebelled again, failed again, went over to another warlord, yet rebelled against that warlord soon all over again.

Do you get the point that everything has to be spoken in the context of the story. First, I suppose you are talking about Cao Cao not Chao Chao. Second, in the story's context Ma Teng was the one that rebelled against Cao Cao. As a son he was expected to follow his father. Do you honestly think he could have won Cao Cao? His entire sequence of experiences not betrays was to get to Liu Bei's side. In the context of the story Zhang Lu locked him out, so he did not betray anyone. Know the novel.

You are the one who started this this history topic under a TV series thread. Everything I spoke of was within the novel not necessarily history. If you want to discuss history, go to a thread of Chronicles of Three Kingdoms. This ain't the place, since what is being film is partly fictional.

All the instances of death and failure I was listing were trying to show the fact:"honorable" dudes get killed/maimed/wiped all over the place in dishonorable ways IN A WAR.
My Original point was that leader of the army was stupid to taunt right in the front, not to mention just to duel later on.
Honor and Chivalry Doesn't DO nothing when your largely peasants conscript army doesn't know any better.

The point is you are comparing real life morals to those morals of a historic fiction novel.
This was written in the 1300s and these elements of honour, respect, and chivalry are what makes this novel interesting. These morals are what makes the people read this novel.

you have to get one fact straight: Taunting and Dueling like this did happen in real history. the novel dramatized it.
What I was saying is simple : those "heroic" "honorable" individuals were risking way too many other people's lives and wellbeings by doing so.
Let ma chao taunt, he didn't even bring siege weapons, let his troop tires out. si ma yi was smart to do it to stem ZHugeLian's 2 northen expeditions. or shoot the dude so the whole battle is over and Yi province will be within grasp.

the story i dunno is true or not. but the style of battle is correct during that time. both party used to send one jeneral (either main or asssistant) & fight one by one 1st. the reason is to take the risk to show their confidence to leader coz once one of the party win, the spirit of army will raise and they will started the war wif strong confidence.

the spears are heavy, weight like 60 lbs each or more, i tried to carry one real spear before, no way you can just stab with spear, it will put you in great danger, one you miss, the enemy will slide you. Bet the strong warrior have heavier spear, in physics it will have great advantage when it swing.
