I feel u on this. MJ WAS inspired by the artists before him but he didn't jack their style to the point that he looked like a copycat. He took inspiration and elevated it to his OWN style with many of his OWN moves and it was completely his OWN creativity in his shows and personal style-he came up with that..no one else!!! Even James Brown said this. These dudes while I know they admire him, are straight up jacking his moves, his style, his ideas and it bugs me..not sure which is worse...ugh.

They are all great . But Michael has been around for 45 yrs the dance moves he's been doing for that long . Other than James Brown most of these younger artist have gotten their influence from Michael& James .. But they are all great in their own way
This can only be a good thing. To see artists imitating the King makes me smile, tho when they go OTT and suggest they can replace or better Michael then they're stepping way over the line. Michael created himself, these artists are just copies, i'd like to see them blow the world away with a Motown 25esq performance. Then i might take notice.

@andrewleejones I think he means that because Ne-Yo and Usher are publicized music artists the goal is to be original and unique to stand out but blatantly copying Michael Jackson is not being original and in a sense taking something that is not theirs. If no one had heard of MJ (which is highly unlikely but possible) and seen Usher do a moonwalk per se, they would call it Usher's moonwalk, Ne-Yo's black fedora, etc when these are clearly traits of Michael Jackson.

They are not copying MJ, they are showing the world, particularly the media that MJ is still the King that he paved the way for them and they will forever be grateful.
Remember during that time MJ was like contagious only few people will defend him publicly. therefore i think they are showing respect & admiration for MJ through their own perfomance. I think we should look at this in a positive way rather than negative. many people are now discovering MJ's music through their own idols.

At the end of the day, young fans are exactly that - young. They don't know about the influences of today's artists, similar to how a lot of MJ's fans don't know anything about james brown or fred astaire (though a number do).

These kids are good above average dancers. Great dancers compared to normal people, but when it comes to comparing them to Michael there is just no way. They look stiff compared to the fluid and precise movements of Michael. Sorry boys but maybe in your next lifetime.
Oh yeah, I'm not trying to be negative or anything of the sort, but its a little known fact that the moonwalk and glides were not invented by MJ. He learned those from the likes of the Electric Boogaloos, Pop N Taco and Jeffrey Daniel, who was actually the first person to do the moonwalk on tv (just less than a year before MJ did it). However, MJ did perfect the moonwalk though.
You are right, But also the moonwalk had been around for a loooong time. Look for the video the history of the moonwalk. The thing is that Michael took different elements and made them his own. Doesn't matter if he didn't invent them, he just has this style that is so easy to identify. After Michael there is simply no artist with such a strong personal style.
The way I see it, Usher and Ne-Yo do those moves as an ode to MJ, who was a HUGE influence on their careers. And to think, this is just a small bit of the impact that MJ had on the world.
About dancing style, Michael is a big brother. Usher,Justin, Ne Yo..are young artists, they can learn the good things and besides, they develop their styles. So that's good for all. We can see Michael's effect but also young singers's own styles. And their relation ship is good too.

Well, as a Hip Hop dancer, I thonk that they are not copyng MJ. They just take off some of their style, as all hiphop dancers at the moment. MJ must be an inspiration if you want to do poppin' or lockin' it's imposible to omit that. In fact, i think that ne-yo and usher have they personal style, adding or making her steps bigger o smaller than MJ.
I'm a great fan of Ne-yo style of dance and MJ too, and i see a lot of differences between of them.
MJ have an style more enphatyc with a faster beater songs. In fact, Ne-yo uses more slow beats to get an "gentleman and elegant" style, like he's lyrics says.

I don't think MJ stole the backslide or moonwalk. He just performed it. It just so happens that everyone else thought he created it because his name is so big and he is a superstar. He never claimed that he made it.
He said that he was waching a child's group and he have the idea to create the moonwalk. Also Poppint Pete in a interview said that the moonwalk it's false, because it is the MJ's name, the original name was back slide created by him or Electric Boogaloos.

I think the same, it shows to new generation how big MJ still is. They just present respect for Michael, they show he's a big inspiration for them. They are not copying MJ, they are showing the world, particularly the media that MJ is still the King that he paved the way for them and they will forever be grateful.
Remember during that time MJ was like contagious only few people will defend him publicly. therefore i think they are showing respect & admiration for MJ through their own perfomance. I think we should look at this in a positive way rather than negative. many people are now discovering MJ's music through their own idols.

At the end of the day, young fans are exactly that - young. They don't know about the influences of today's artists, similar to how a lot of MJ's fans don't know anything about james brown or fred astaire (though a number do).
At the end of the day, it s about teaching the young about the legends of the past, not insulting them.
I feel what youre saying, itd good to know about the history, but that knwoledge comes with more awareness and time.

You seem to forget a lot of MJs moves were inspired by James Brown and Fred Astaire. MJ just added a lot of his own touch. These new guys are just doing the same. But it's true no one can beat MJ. He was better than those before him and it will take forever for those after him to surpass him. I wonder if 100 years from now if someone will come that has more talent. These kids are good above average dancers. Great dancers compared to normal people, but when it comes to comparing them to Michael there is just no way. They look stiff compared to the fluid and precise movements of Michael. Sorry boys but maybe in your next lifetime.

Oh yeah, I'm not trying to be negative or anything of the sort, but its a little known fact that the moonwalk and glides were not invented by MJ. He learned those from the likes of the Electric Boogaloos, Pop N Taco and Jeffrey Daniel, who was actually the first person to do the moonwalk on tv (just less than a year before MJ did it). However, MJ did perfect the moonwalk though.

You are right, But also the moonwalk had been around for a loooong time. Look for the video the history of the moonwalk. The thing is that Michael took different elements and made them his own. Doesn't matter if he didn't invent them, he just has this style that is so easy to identify. After Michael there is simply no artist with such a strong personal style.

Well, as a Hip Hop dancer, I thonk that they are not copyng MJ. They just take off some of their style, as all hiphop dancers at the moment. MJ must be an inspiration if you want to do poppin' or lockin' it's imposible to omit that. I think the same, it shows to new generation how big MJ still is. They just present respect for Michael, they show he's a big inspiration for them. Of course totally copying his moves and not-orginal personality aren't good too, but some moves and parts of Mike's style that they use are showing how MJ is timeless and kept in our minds! Thanks to it all he's everywhere - when you turn on TV or radio - you can see elements of his style and music... It's Ok. shows that people still remember him ;)
