the effect is called "the hall of mirrors" and occurs in many fps games when the player has left the map, causing the game to bring up the last image seen, thats why when you changed wapon, the image stayed becuse it could'nt load anything in front of it.

ive seen that happen in many games o ne certain spot is on half life two if you jump in to a room where father grigori was in WITHOUT the console

@badrado01 It's called the repeated aliasing copy effect and it happens when the player looks into the void on any sensible engine.
