Corgan reformed the band without the two original members, made a crappy album in comparison to prior albums, and now vents at angry fans, who have a right to be disgruntled. Corgan, stick to making your kind of music. But do it in the studio, not in an anniversary tour.
I'm really sick of Corgan playing the victim at these last shows. At first I sort of pitied him; in "If All Goes Wrong" he describes how he's trying to show that this isn't a nostalgic act, blah blah blah... So he plays this new type of music. (Which sucks--fans are paying hundreds of dollars to see a 20th anniversary tour for these experiments.)
Billy says he plays music for himself and doesn't want to be like those "other reunion bands" that just play the old hits. Why even bring back the SP name, then, Billy? Go out on tour as Billy Corgan, play any shit you want, rearranged and droned-out to your heart's content. If you book a 20th anniversary tour, of course people are going to expect their old favorites. Billy taps into his fans' nostalgia, then mocks them for their expectations.

grunge in its means was what the pumps tried to be but only randomly were. pumps were aor rock with a certain style and - occassionally - emotional depth, nothing else.
It's actually aimed at the fact that people who talk about the pumpkins being dead only listen to the band's first 3 albums. I don't consider them grunge, but I consider the people who only like those albums to be grunge fans. The pumpkins weren't grunge but they were popular during that time and some people seem to have problems accepting that time is over.
The fans that want the old Pumpkins and beg of them to venture back to that time don't really seem to care about the artist's desire to keep moving and evolving. If you keep going over and over the same stuff, you wind up going nowhere physically and mentally. There's a lot of muddling of bands in genres and people are often dismissive of SP referring to them as grunge. When I heard their music for the first time I actually felt like it was a much needed breath of air from the whole grunge time

I don't consider them grunge, but I consider the people who only like those albums to be grunge fans. The pumpkins weren't grunge but they were popular during that time and some people seem to have problems accepting that time is over.

If you keep going over and over the same stuff, you wind up going nowhere physically and mentally. There's a lot of muddling of bands in genres and people are often dismissive of SP referring to them as grunge. When I heard their music for the first time I actually felt like it was a much needed breath of air from the whole grunge time
