  • I am a CFI and using the MRX has probably saved my life at least two times. I was skeptical about the $500, but that was more or less some life insurance right there...

  • hahahah wow, this guy with all those stuff can make an emergency landing in the mountains, camp for a month and get out of the situation like nothing happened

  • goodlord... im going to have to order one my self based on these comments. I see its going around 500 bucks. Lets see what happens... I'll post a review here again as soon as i get mines.

No money is too much money to get you safe in an old small airplane:

    I invested in the following:

Garmin Aera 560 (GPS): $2000 (excellent situational awareness, traffic info).

Emergency pilot parachute backpack (thin): $1800 (landing over mountain terrain)

    PCAS: $500

Life jacket: $100 (in the event of landing in river)

$4400 + tax...lol...but is it worth it? HELL YEAH because life is priceless.

I am thinking of getting a FAA-approved CO detector. CO guardian makes some - have to check it out.

Only thing remaining are fire protection suit and airbags - diamond aircraft usually comes with those.

Risk management should be the PRIORITY when flying a plane. sightseeing, get-homeitis should be very distant thought or non-existent if you are like me - using plane just for travel.

  • Other emergency stuff:

Emergency kit, gun (to kill a wild animal that may threaten your life - if you are in the middle of a forest), radio/cellphone - always important because its the way rescuers can find you.

Be prepared and you will survive.

Most GA pilots have horrible risk management skills even if they have fairly good piloting skills - they fly the plane fine but they are not prepared for horrible weather transition, VFR into IFR, crashing trees while landing / after take off...

  • I have the cheaper model MRX and its great, never fly without it. Trust me when I say you WILL enjoy your flights a lot more with this thing since you can see who is even 5 miles away from you. I use it all the time in San Diego area. YOU WILL BE surprised how many targets your eyes fail to see!

  • Ok, I trust you, just ordered MRX also fly around SD (CRQ)

  • did you order it yet? how do you like it?

  • I fly in the Santa Fe practice area, and I've had 2 flights with the MRX... very VERY impressed. It sees things before you do. Sometimes, you never see them and they become "no factor". I know about targets even before Tower calls them out to me.
