Any word on how to fix the boot problems in ubuntu or xubuntu? /init: Line7 / dev sr0 no medium found... They say it has to do with bios and a floppy but disabling it does not fix the prob. Then there is a casper file that jams as well. it takes about 1/2 hour to boot even after install. and thats on a pretty beefy dual core machine with 2g ram.
you are missing unix, it should be right at the top with linux directly linked to it and mac (stealing the unix kernel the bastards) should be as well. windows 3.1 is another chart as its completely off another chart as it was created completely on its own. as macfags will always accuse Microsoft os stealing off os x when they stole off unix and us linux fags have been copying off them ever since! serves steve jobs right!
Unix isn't directly connected to Linux because it's not based directly from Unix source code, they made a similar code to build the linux kernel, that's why Unix isn't there :)
I've tried almost all of em... its not ubuntu, its more an issue with compiz I believe, as it only happens when the "magic" is turned on. But honestly I need it b/c that zoom function makes life so much easier.
Also, do you know/remember the key combination to get into the various teminals? was it crt+alt then 2 or f2, I can't remember.
I'm away from my box for another 2 weeks and its been really bugging me. If you don't know, thats fine... thanks
Freespire is the current distribution. Its descended Lindows/Linspire. Origninally, Lindows/Linspire was derived directly from Debian. The current version of Freespire is derived from Ubuntu, but the next version will come off of the main Debian branch. Yes Xandros bought Linspire and killed it, but thats still where Freespire came from.
Again, the chart is not complete and doesn't show where ditros have cross pollinated each other. I left Gentoo and Arch Linux off the chart as well. There just wasn't room for everything.

other than ease of use... what is the real difference between Linux Mint and Ubuntu?
YouMockMe 3 years ago
Linux Mint comes with A/V codecs by default. Also, a customized "Start" menu and a Mint update front end for apt-get

hmm... maybe that can help me with the damn flickering of videos I get with ubuntu. So I take it that the terminal commands the same then?
YouMockMe 3 years ago
Yes on the terminal commands. As far as flickering videos, I prefer VLC player.

I think that F1 through F5 bring up the text terminal sessions. F7 through F9 bring up another graphical session. I think

I think you should have included Gentoo and Arch
Heller86 3 years ago
Gentoo and Arch are exceptions to the rule, as neither one are derived from Slack, Debian, or Red Hat.

It's not Lindows it's Linspire now and M$ bought it. But now it's dead and Xandros is the Free Linspire
