  • Cool swing <3

  • Hamp's 1947 recorded version is one for the ages, easily up their with the fabled recordings of the tune by Louis, Shaw, Desmond and others. Each soloist's voice comes through memorably on their instrument, esp. Slam Stewart and Charlie Shavers. The guy was under-appreciated after the '60s, but he was playing blues as well as Bags and "Giant Steps" in the 80s and 90s.

  • Come on ....this guy ain't just good, he's bloody brilliant !!

  • tijdloze wereldklasse. Mag nooit vergeten worden.

  • The quotation at 2.30 is from the song "Pretty baby" it always appears in Hamps version see the 1947 version and also the 1954 Apollo Hall concert in Amsterdam. I've just noticed that this concert is on CD I must get round to ordering it, my vinyl version is worn out

  • This guy is good!

  • this is as good as the 1954 Apollo Hall concert in Holland, where is the rest of this gem ??

  • where's the citation at 2:30 from, when the audience starts to sing along?

  • PIEKNE...DZIĘKUJE bairesco :)

  • Once again with feeling. Splendid version of Hoagy's immortal tune.

Check out my little jazz n swing blog, if you like. See you there.

    Peace,

    Brew "Hampman" Light

  • AAAHHHHH... wheres the rest of it! I've fallen off the cliff from Stardust.

  • wonderful...

  • Hey man- is the 47 Pasadena performance the one featuring Slam Stewart, among others, with Hamp? If thats the one I'm thinking of, Hamp starts slow, building on the work of the other soloists and then sends Stardust, double time into deep space...it is truly HAMP'S SOLO!

  • The master himself in a marvellous peace of music. Boelema

  • To gasbusters - I have the Apollo Theater 1954 record. One of his best indeed...

  • This is just great. One of my mother's fav. There is another rendention from 1947, played at the civic auditorium, Pasadena, ca. w/ Lionel Hampton and His Just Jazz All Stars. Recorded/issued on Decca. It's a 15 min.13 second number. If it is found, please upload. In the meantime, thanks for this, Barber1965.

  • I have the 1947 recording in Pasadena its Brilliant

  • There is LP recording of Lionel performing this piece at the Apollo Theater in 1954 on Epic records that is truly out of sight. See if can locate this jewel.

  • Hampton was great with ballads. Upload this again in the right format: 4:3 and give us the whole number!

  • Let me put on my hat so that I can get it off...

  • Wonderful,and he doesn't even make sounds,only a little bit ;D
