This novel turned movie is a stereotyping worthless piece if shit, Amy Tan is a self-loathing, white cock sucking sellout. She's such a disgrace to her parents and all the Chinese people. It's about White gentlemen rescuing China Dolls from their miserable existence shadowed by their Evil Asian Male counterparts. It's a perfect example of how American mainstream media is racist towards Asians.

If you're ignorant to Asian culture in general, don't bother with this, as you'll be largely misguided.

When was the last time you saw a movie featuring an Asian male as a protagonist without the kung-fu stereotype? Dr. Fu Man Chu anyone? @EdmundoMD Good point taken there. In the UK, the British still used Orientals to distinguish East and Southeast Asians from the Indian subcontinent. Asians are referred to those from the Indian subcontinent in the UK. So I suppose East and Southeast Asian would be more specific and useful.

Correction, she simply uses "Jewish Mahjong" as a metaphor if you read the book more closely. It simply symbolizes how the chinese have to work harder (Chinese Mahjong- think harder, strategies) to earn a living in the world, it's their traditional values. Jewish Mahjong symbolizes how the Americans live life like a game. They don't have to work as hard or they don't follow the same values the Chinese cherish. (which is to work hard and thus, you succeed ) They take life seriously.

Did u read the book? Or at least watch part of the movie b/c that reference was in the book as well. It was talking about how the two games are different as in thinking wise. It has nothing to do with jews(just their game.)so you don't have to get all offended by that. You should be upset by the fact that all the daughters except Jing(the one who was narating.) end up with white guys and have crappy marriages.

Actually, it is with the white guys that they are happy. It was with Asian guys that they were unhappy.

One of the white guys was a jerk, but proved to be a good man after all in the end. That marriage lasted because he, finally, opened his heart to his wife.
