Thank you very much for this video! Great detail on how to remove and clean the FICV. Completely fixed my issue!
Just as a note: NYC altitude calls for backing out the plunger about 1.25 turns.
Also: DRAIN YOUR COOLANT BEFORE REMOVING THROTTLE BODY! I don't think this was mentioned in the video. But you should definitely remove the coolant from the system before starting. The lines running to the FICV are coolant lines and they will splash coolant everywhere!
@nx2overide or anyone else who reads this i have a 92 integra b18 and when i am using my a/c it will cut off on me at stoplights.also it vibrates really bad when its stopped and in drive but when i put it in neutral it is smooth i was just wondering what advice you or anyone else might have, thanks drw
I have the same crazy problem. I turn on my car and try to rev it up but it does not suck in much air and does not rev up. But when ever it want it will rev up to 2500 and 3000 rpm when i hold the throttle open and close it a few times. I still have not found the problem. There are 2 holes in front of the throttle plate that feed the IACV (top hole) and the FITV (bottom hole). I cover up the bottom hole but its sucking air which its no supposed to. And i cover both holes and does nothing. Help.
Hey since your a Honda guy and you actually found the IACV valve.... Where is the serial number to the engine?! I've look everywhere, and I also have the same problem so this is a great video! Thanks
if the screw keeps tourning out towards the inspection plate and i turn it back in and it does it again what do i do also it onlydoes that when i rev to 8k a lot and my setup is b20vtec b20z2 with gsr head but it did the same thing with a b16 head and a different fast idle
my car will start but when cold will pulse up to 2 grand and act like it dies then starts but up at like 700 rpm and as it warms up it gets slower and stays between 700- 1500 rpm is this wat is wrong with it
@CALIROCK There is no FITV on 96 and up integras. Sure you have found that out by now but just wanted to give yah a reply on here incase anyone else came across the same question.
Thanks for the video. I didn't know how easy it is to take apart a Honda FITV. Definitely the way to go for cleaning it. One question. That looks like the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) that you pointed to that caused you to replace the throttle body. As far as I know, a Honda TPS can be replaced. Looks like there is no way to unscrew it but those are screws. Just have a use a thin dremel type cutter to cut a groove in the top of them, then use screwdriver to remove. Replace TPS and calibrate.
my 99 civic si is having the same problem i recently did a Ls/vtec swap on it my idle go to 2500rpm do you think i may be having the same problem? or somthing else please help.
I cleaned both my IACV and FITV w/proper adjustment and I still get the occasional idle surges when I'm city driving. any idea what else it could be? vacuum leak?
@mirc225 yea cause i did that and my idle is way to low!! but its awesome cause now my idle doesnt surge up and down its great!! icleaned the iac and the fitv!! now i can smog my car finally!! lol
Sometimes Screwing it back in all the way does not work. I had an idle surge for forever that was weird.Sometimes cold/sometimes hot. Best way to know is to let the car get to operating temperature than take off intake piping. should be NO suction in the bottom port. If there is it means the engine is drawing in the required air from the IAC valve on top of the air still being drawn in from the FITV simulating a vacuum leak.should be able to stall the engine by plugging ur thumb over top port
Thank you for this. Cleaning the FITV helped my engine =). I had a problem with my -91/-92 Accord. The idle was just fine but on coldstarts the revs raised to 2200rpm or something. Then if you didn't let the engine warmup until you started driving the revs began to bounce between 1500-2500rmp. After cleaning the FIT valve everything is okay. Cold start is only 1500rpm and there is no bouncing anymore. It also seems that the idle is little better and smoother.
Question...What about the other side of the FITV...it has 2 more screws that are kinda hard to take off(on mine anyway) On the side with the nose-hole.
Also..on that same side...I have something like either metal or carbon inside that hole..I'm not sure if it's suppost to look like that or not..it's not clogging the whole hole BUT it's in the middle & looks like it's dividing the hole into 2...but i can't tell. Is your's the same way?
...Umm..next time can you show us how you took off the valve like that? I been looking at my 92 Civic's FITV for hours trying to see how to take it off. Looks like you have to stand on top of the engine & be as small as the oil filter to get it off.
@jbentley8383 right on.. i had to completely remove the throttle body to change mine.. it was a pain because yes the bolts are in really tight places..
oh btw, you'll know if it was bad in the first place if your car idles erratic when its cold. im pretty sure theres two different types of idle control valves in the honda. this is one them.
@buddybestor yep i also have a video of me cleaning the other valve too... IACV.. The idle cleared up after cleaning it but it has returned as of a week ago.. im pretty sure my IACV is bad.. going to replace it.
any of you guys know what the problem could be that causes my honda to loose timing while taking off in first gear. It looses compresion and starts popping. I have to turn off and on in order for it to go back in time.
ok, this video got right by me...i am here almost daily and don't see how it got away....anyways...i am begining to think u have a real hight IQ, coz u know how to do so much from, drums, piano, computer stuff and now fix a car.....man i wish i knew how to fix cars....mine needs work BAD!! yeah the video helped....still cluesless however.
Yep i check for vacume leaks.. i think i actually have a bad IACV. ill have to replace it ... yep yep VW!! they are actually really cool and easyer to work on.
well its running better but i think my IACV is bad. guess ill have to buy a new one.. i cleaned it first but it is old and i cleaned it again after i put this back on the car. I think its just bad.
if i go full throttle then let off the gas it stalls. it drops rpm too low. is this a FITV problem?
also whats the top vac line thing on the throttle body? the nipple for the line? car i have doesnt have anything there

@mirc225:The proper way is to screw it all the way down til it's tight...than turn it about 1/8 turn back out.
