Actually the elevation and angle depend of the distance from the cueball to the ball you try to jump. He also forgot to mention that the best way is to grip the cue very light and aim like a normal shot and just stand up, also the backarm is best to be in a straightdown position and not with an offstroke.
good players dont need to use a different cue to jump. just aim like a normal shot but aim ihe tip right at the bottom of the white. hit with "considerable force". use my way for short distance jumps and his way for long distance. it is also sometimes easier to play off the side or coushin than to play a jump shot.
no dude, it's always illegal. it's called scooping the cue ball, and it's illegal because the cue comes into contact with the ferrule of the stick, when you're only legally allowed to touch the cue ball with the tip for an instant. calling it had nothing to do with it. that's like saying if you call a scratch on the 8 ball you win that game.
yea. but you hit the cue ball hard enough/ with enough force that it jumps. plus i didnt say anything about scooping the ball - which is illegal. i do this in matches all the time and no one has ever said i was playing an illegal shot.............
maybe you play with people who don't know a lot about billiards but your way is definitely an illegal shot. there's only one way to legally jump a ball, and the way in this video is it.
I know that jumping a ball, while hitting the cueball below center is considered a foul shot. Maybe you have some different rules, but I compete and the propper way to jump (calling a jump is only in 8 ball and 10 ball) is to strike from above with an angle and above the center of the cueball.
I seen a lot of good players using a jump cue: Alex Pagulayan, Francisco Bustamante, Efren Reyes, Larry Nevel. Fact is it is easier with a jump cue then a regular playing cue, some people don't like to use it because it is nicer to see a kick shot then a jump. But it is about personal preffernce.
wow nobel prize winner here...of course you bank if you can...but if its going to be more than 2-3 banks then it would be sometimes easier to jump (or play safe)
yeah that is also how I can do it...but that kind of jump is technically illegal as you are lifting the ball instead of shooting it with one touch....
good video . ive been scooping. i need to shoot 30 deg. towards the center, ill try that.

you could always come off a cushion to hit the ball but that would probs be too difficult for this guy haha
