You're waking up the part of me I've always suffocated, and that was pretty much myself. I'm happy you're happy making these videos, and very grateful. :)
On the flip side for those who "continue" to seek...there is another reason for it...it implies that they have not found the answer...their answer..their truth...and everyone needs to discover what is true for them individually. Really excellent perspective also.
Saw this video at the right time. My compass has been a little off lately and focusing more on knowledge and "advancement" rather than just being. Thanks. :)
Truth is simple but reaching it requires some reading . Unfortunately, the best part of people get bogged down in the games of the ego where it is brimming full of complexity and they fail to get to the point of simplicity. A thought of mine - " Beware of the knowledge you have not to become food for your ego . You are sure to lose the pleasure of life. Be simple and natural" , Steve , I hug this video! :)
Totally agree with you man, well said, but you have posted so many more videos when all that was needed was this one. Do you have a website yet? Will you start charging? Lol. I say this with humor and lightheartedly. Peace
And you have just looked in the mirror as your intent may seem good. But ego is at play with your desire for making these videos. You are learning through making these videos, but not necessarily teaching anyone true value. You want to be a speaker like some want to be an artist. It doesn't mean that they should ever paint.
@vagabondsteve Sure....... You are wise without experience which lacks the missing link in conviction as to the logical conversations you "do" carry. But it's missing something that burns much deeper that the words you choose. It's not in your eyes, it's not in your tone, it can't be acted. You are having conversations and putting yourself out there regardless of what others thing. That's just a small step in self discovery. But talk is cheep and you have yet to really live it in your own life.
@ROBJ007 Your accusation is still cloudy. Seems presumptuous and judgmental without sufficient support. Is it possible your comment reveals more about yourself than me?
@vagabondsteve See, that's the difference between logic and wisdom. Logical would respond as you have. This is not presumptuous... This is years of experience telling you this. "YES"... Always revealing something about myself when I seem things like this and I get a reaction. What it reveals is just maybe I should be sharing "my" experiences through speaking. And not sharing them just in writing and painting.
@vagabondsteve There are a "LOT" of Spock's speaking from logic and not wisdom today. It doesn't come from experiences that burn deep inside as the fuel which feeds much more to the ear with great lyrics from logic.
Wow. I could not agree any more! Spirituality got so complex that I didn't have a desire to do practical work because I thought what is the use if it does not lead to Nirvana (I have depression & anxiety/ocd sometimes). So I just started trying to keep a Zen mind @ all times & keeping it simple. I feel bad to go from my family tradition of Hinduism. I respect it & Zen would not be if Buddha had not learned meditation from the Hindus, but simplicity in spirituality is the only way I can do it.
Good practive of self discipline - this is so right, a great message to get at this point in my life - I've been getting into spirituality and its helped and made me stronger but I've not been observing self discipline- this is a personal process we all know what are the things we need to get done and stop procrastinating over - just go and get them done because this is the best way to make your life simpler and more peaceful - great message thanks again
You are right. I have struggled with this problem of always seeking. While going through a divorce a couple years ago, I listened to Wayne Dyer everyday. Yes, everyday. It immensely helped me, but it took a while to get my self used to not seeking and just being.
I never thought about it until now. Thanks for your insight.
Thank you. Often the most simple and direct answer is right in front of us. We just need to open our hearts and minds & be ready to receive it. Good message. Succinct, clearly delivered and to the point.
Reading A New Earth made me fully understand the ego. I'm in high school and I can easily see people's egos. I try sooooo hard not to let it get to me....but it does.
@efan4evr Yes, the first stage is seeing the ego in others, but later you realize it has nothing to do with them and is all about you. People can only trigger what is already inside of you. Clean your own house and you won't stumble upon the egos of others.
You're so right, i guess we feel lonely and scared and the books and therapists and you steve are guides on the way, to that state we are so bad longing fore. Like a child we sooner or later have to walk and talk with our own legs and words. Im happy that there is........
cheers, homie!...i like it simple...and yet my mind and surroundings are FLOODED with complexity!!!...down with this confusion...let's just all die and get it over with!
Good video. The bible says "Adam and Eve ate from the knowledge of Good and Evil." This is a metaphor for duality. Duality causes all suffering for humans. And what the bible calls "sin" is what causes duality. We as humans have the capability to go above and beyond duality. When you do you no longer suffer and you are in a state of what they call "grace". A lot of problems are from dogma and not understanding the real meaning behind "spiritual texts." That is how "religion" started.
I think a big part of the problem is the tyranny of the school system. It creates good workers, but it can rob us of our joy and calmness. For years we're subjugated to systematic regimentation... constant assignments, testing... relentlessly pushing forward, thru grade school, high school, college. We forget how to simply BE. We feel there must always be a new goal... progress must be made! There doesn't HAVE to be a goal. We CAN simply be. People forget this.
Agreed! How do you teach this to be people who have been conditioned by years of indoctrination? Is it possible to "just be" when people have to strive, struggle, and achieve, just to pay the mortgage, kids, cars, etc?
Life & work needn't be a struggle. As you discussed in a previous video about the dishwasher who was happy to provide for his family, there's satisfaction & dignity in work; it doesn't have to be a burden. It's all in one's attitude:
"If a man is called to be a streetsweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music... He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause and say [he] did his job well - Martin Luther King, Jr.
The key is to practice being anchored to your breath. Practice this first during non-challenging situations. Afterward try to stay anchored to it for spurts at a time when challenging situations arrived.
You hit the nail on the head-everyone looks externally when all the answers are on the inside. I picked up Power of Now, realised there was nothing in there i hadnt already figured out & put it down.
What worries me is there seems to be a "religion" forming around what these guys are talking about- externalising v simple things and turning them into theory rather than real understanding. Lots of talking the talk and quoting the guru but not living like it is known from the inside out.
You have some good points, Steve. I don't think that everyone can make it without a teacher, though. A lot of the problem is what seekers think is "supposed" to happen. And the heavy doctrine of most religions. In my meditation group, most people are not even seeking enlightenment, just peace they can summon at need. Simplicity is not easy for them, and they have no idea how to apply simplicity under fire. Sometimes I just need reminders when the world shocks me out of my peace. Good vid.
I lack self discipline and yet deep down im content.
I keep feeling like nothing really matters. Its the ultimate get out clause!
Its like riding lots of different waves and expecting that big one to come along one day and force you to either chill on the beach with the rest of the surfers or sleep with the fishes...
My mind is exhausted from all the reading, videos and listening to people like Eckhart.
This morning, I took every book, video and books on CD's and put them in the basement.
I going to take some time, and try to remember where all the fun went in my life? I want to makes some friends and watch some college football and shoot some hoops! FUN!
I'm sick of over thinking EVERYTHING! This, sure as hell is NOT peace!
If we trusted our inner guru you would be out of a job lol. J/K You know I love you. Keep 'em coming. It's always good to share whether you are seeking or just enjoying the conversation.
