@erod1944 You should be glad that you atleast have a civic instead of a big suv. I had a accord before moving to prius. Prius is quiter, softer and slower. However i love the smart key and lcd display that tell you current mpg. NO more speeding. Accord was lot harder but could go little faster. In the end i appreciate 8 gallon fill ups instead of 14 on accord. I also drive slower since you can see mpg drop.
Prius owners will be laughing when gas hits $5 a gallon! You won't be laughing... In fact you will be paying out the ass since you will be using so much fuel to get around! To go 1,000+ miles in a Prius it only takes about 17 gallons!!! How far do you think a VR-6 can go on 17 gallon? Less then 350 miles! When I see an F-150 I kinda smile and realize that with the fuel that thing sucks down in a week I could drive for more then a month. What does that thing have like a 22 gallon tank... lol
I know several people that have had them for over 5 years and they love them. Gas is cheap right now, but history repeats itself and it will be higher.
So I take it you never use batteries? Hum... Cell Phones, home phones, remotes controls for just about everything in your house, laptops, i-Pods, PSPs, Bluetooth, cameras, camcorders, kids toys, video game controls, flash lights, remote control cars and planes and much more all use batteries. That doesn't include the batteries sitting around the house waiting to be used. Oh and by the way EVERY vehicle has a battery! Pretty much anything that is electronic and portable has a battery.

The reason why it is gasoline is because of not too many diesel pumping station in US unlike in Europe.Secondly,clean diesel are not so abundant as of today.The next technology Prius would have is Plug in Hybrid w/c uses either gasoline or bio diesel.Now that will be torque plus economy plus saving the environment.+ or - 120 miles per gallon.
