Brings back so many memories Bob Sheppard is what PA guys should sound like for Champions, Not screaming maniacs like Paul Porter for the Orlando Magic
May 11, 1976.Game delayed by rain 37 minutes in the 2nd inning.NY scored 2 in 8th to take 3-1 lead. One run came when Piniella squeezed home Munson.Tigers would rally for 3 in 9th to win 4-3.All the runs came off Figueroa who completed the game.Yanks bullpen was rested since they'd had an off day following a 4-3 ,12 inning loss in Oakland two days before. In that game Catfish Hunter had gone the entire 11 & 2/3 innings.
What a collection of characters, just on the Tigers alone. LeFlore, jail to baseball glory. The troubled Alex Johnson. No, that's not the Willie Horton from the 1988 Presidential election, this one was and is a good guy. Le Grand Orange.
I looked it up: Ed Figueroa pitched well, but ran out of gas in the 9th, and the Yanks lost 4-3. Almost exactly what happened in my first live game, 5/27/1978 against Toronto, Figgy lost it in the 9th, 4-1, triple by Rick Bosetti.

Bob Sheppard had NO peer. He was the very best public address announcer in all of sports.
