1080 Poison - Ground Zero

If 1080 poison is so good why dont you have it spread in your back yard trakabat ?

Funny how some city folk are NIMBYS, yet its OK for DOC to accidentally drop 1080 on Childrens horses, Farm Stock and peoples water supplys.

I dont see too many Forest and Bird members living out here on the edge of our poisoned National Parks !

Shame on those that endorse and apply 1080 poison all over Rural NZ, this must stop !

Tutekelahore, it is periodically spread in my backyard and it does not cause the problems to the extent that you descibe. Where did DOC drop 1080 on children's horses for goodness sake.

@tutekelahore DOC 1080ed a paddock of horses near Turangi a wee while back.

Dogs were also killed just last month alongside State Highway 5 on the Napier Taupo road during the East Taupo 1080 drop across easily trapped land.

They have also poisoned cows, sheep, peoples pets and hunting dogs along with native wildlife in an effort to reduce possum numbers.

@tutekelahore Many locations in Aotearoa are so flat that they could be trapped and bait stations set up to target unwanted species, but no the Govt agencys and Departments involved continue to use1080 Willy Nilly, often not informing those affected about their deadly poison drops.

@tutekelahore Many New Zealanders and particularly those in Rural NZ are not impressed with huge volumes of residual Toxic Poisons being aerially dropped along their boundary fences, Parks and reserves. With such huge Rural unemployment effort should be made to increase the amount of trappers and ground hunters.

@tutekelahore good idea, hang on Doc has no money its all spent on 1080 how would they pay trappers? if the money spent on 1080 was givn to trappers it works out at $50 per possum, problem solved, u must be a genious bat boy

Many native birds drink poisoned water from the top of Native trees when 1080 is liberally broadcast over our National Parks and Forests, then they die.

Problem with such an over kill with aerially spread 1080 is that wind drift spreads it to where it should not be and 1080 is indiscriminant and kills everything in a most horrendously cruel and callous manner.

1080 poison has been used every three or four years to protect the forest around Otira from possums since the 1960s. This recording was made at 2pm in the afternoon.
