I remember back in my teens when i used to listen to this song all my friends would tell me SOM sucked..

I told them to fuck off, and ten years later i still listen to them (although not as often) with the same appreciation.

What makes one song "work" and another not? Repetition can irritate -- please Toni Basil, stop saying "Hey Mickey!" Yet here it is hypnotic, or as "trazeebarb" says, emotive. I credit the band and/or the producers for the guts to get in to the beat and repeat "My Heartland" in to us all the way.

This song is one of the absolute best by Sisters of Mercy. It's maybe a bit forgotten cause it came before the debute album "First And Last And Always", which was released in 1985.
