Watching clips like this, it looks like the 'Fits were all over the place as a live act back then. It was the combination of Danzig's melodic songwriting and the band's loose playing - that precise balance of harmony and chaos - that made them great, but on stage, it seemed like they were all chaos and no harmony. Punk has always been about walking the razor's edge between musicianship and anti-musicianship...but I think it's fair to say the 'Fits fell off on the wrong side here.
We are 138 , is a reference to George Lucas' Sci-Fi movie he made way before the original Star Wars: "THX 1138" It was about a human society controlled by cyborg type robot enforcers. You were not allowed to have free thought or run off and have sex with chicks after ladies night! Glenn Danzig loves Sci-Fi movies. The way the government is going lately, WE WILL BE 138 pretty soon! Old School Misfits Rule!!!!
if i had to guess it would relate to a line from an old b-grade horror movie. Lots of The Misfits songs contain lines or titles from old-school movies.
"The Forbidden Zone"-Planet of the apes
"Earth A.D"-Hills have eyes
"Night Of The Living Dead"- Night of The Living Dead
THAT IS what the fits are FUN, people are saying ooooh they are crap they sound like crap, but they are fun, especially is you love the stuff they sing about,as a fan of Halloween and everything(if I could live in a town devoted to halloween all year around I WOULD but anyway yeah they were FUN
people ask why the misfits have endured as such a beloved punk band; start a band and try playing some misfits sometime yourself with friends. it's the most fun you'll ever have.
This was a day show for the cable access TV program "Why Be Something You're Not", filmed in a storage room at Group W Cable in Dearborn, Detroit, USA, on January 7th, 1983. They should release the whole program on DVD to coincide with their 30th Anniversary next year (2007), what do y'all think about that?
who cares of how the song sounds live CHAOS FUCK YES!

Turning to violence is joining the establishment and falling into a terrifying aspect of human nature. Love one another to clear the world of fear.

Honestly, is it possible to tell from this clip that you're watching one of the best punk bands of all time (which the 'Fits clearly are)?
garethac81 2 years ago
Of course it's possible. This is punk as fuck!
Weddlejr 2 years ago
I'm not saying it isn't punk...I'm saying Danzig's singing and songwriting is lost in this racket.
And ANY two-bit punk band can make a racket.

My advice, is thought Danzig is gone to go see a 'Fits show any way. Danzig no Danzig it's still a great feeling to be in the pit.
