You put several 'wish I was' (a legend) in parenthesis and I can relate but I am glad you are you. If you were Jimmy Page he would need to take your place or the world would not get to hear the great GuitaristInProgress channel on YT. You do good work IMHO. I like your style.
Oh, I don't really wish I was those people... it was just a handy way of differentiating the different takes of the song... the sloppier, more soulful take was the "Jimmy Page" take, the more technical one was the "Clapton" take. Actually the only guitarist who I wish I was is Mike Oldfield. Oh, ok, Pete Townshend, too.
Mike Oldfield! Have you ever seen the list of instruments he plays at tubular dot net slash instruments? I wish I just owned one of all the instruments he has played. Even though he considers himself primarily a guitarist, he plays a list of stuff longer than my forearm including quite a handful of stringed instruments. He does not mess around when it comes to taste in instruments either: Fender, Gibson, PRS, Martin, Ovation, Jose Ramirez, Korg, Roland, and the list goes on...
Wow... that list is amazing... he's even got a Danelectro Electric Sitar!
I saw the US Premiere of Tubular Bells II... they had 4 guitarists on stage, constantly switching off between 25 (!!) guitars and basses. At any given moment three of them were playing and one was running across the stage to swap guitars. It was like a ballet.
Me neither, some say... but thanks for the encouragement. Nah, I'm pretty please, actually, I don't get a lot of haters so I don't mind the occasional crackput.
You seem laid back and that makes you easy to admire...Your modesty does not hurt you either...Not EVERY musician NEEDS to be a super multi-tasker to entertain me...Also, I get a sense you understand the problems with perception of the written word, especially in modern English. Many people are hard to understand when they write because of so many words that are easily mis-perceived. Life is too short to get worked up over a few words... A bad novel on the other hand and I want blood, lol...
Well... what passes for modesty is actually perfectionism... I hear the flaws in my playing all too clearly. Plus I have a job that requires good communication skills (computer consultant... I deal with clients all day.)

dannyknapp, Think about the above quote the next time you fire up a metronome or a pipe bowl of herbal material, lol...I liked your comment. I also like Gypsy Jazz, hehehe
Some say Bob Dylan sings terrible too. I like Bob Dylan's unusual vocals. Our ears all send similar signals; our brains don't all process those signals in the identical pathways and so we often perceive 'good' and 'bad' quite differently. The old saying goes; 'To each his own'... For some people there is NO good OR bad...ironviking13 consider this:

Hi debi, thanks, glad you like it! Got some stuff almost ready to be uploaded that'll bust your brains out, surely make you lose your mind... please look again in a few days. :-)
hum. everytime i take a look to one of your larger than life interpretations (and comments...), it raises the will to buy a pick and really learn to play music (and learn english too...)
Dude, I sucked - SUCKED - for a solid 10 years. But the thing is, I never knew it. I thought I was great the moment I first picked up a guitar. (I actually found out later, my friends were laughing at me behind my back the first few yrs - I sucked hard.) So I never got discouraged, and I always always always played, just because i loved it.
The point is, you're already well on your way, so if you love it, just keep doing it, just because you enjoy it, never worry about skill level, and it WILL happen, automatically. I still play almost every day, not to get good, but because I love it & HAVE to.
The other tip I can give you that worked for me is, check out Open G tuning. I could never play like this in standard tuning, I'm actually not as good a gutiarist as the conveniences of Open G make it sound.
and if you were Stevie Ray Vaughan?

Heh. Good question. I'll have to work on that.

The 'Blues' don't have to be understood, to be enjoyed! The more you understand, however, the better 'IT' gets! The 'roots' are deep and wide!
