Awsome! My wife and I went to Alaska last May and your video inspired us to take the train/bus trip to Carcross. We had lunch at Bennett Lake. The ride was beautiful! Thanks for the video.
Awesome video. I am planning a trip to the Yukon within the next two years and the White Pass will definitely be on on itinerary. Thanks a lot for posting this. Your narration was awesome.
Too awesome and no way!! You live in victoria? I live in Duncan and we did the alaskan cruise 2 weeks ago and it was a blast but I never got to go on the white pass because of tge cost for my family to go but instead I bought the white pass kit for my ho scale train layout!! Love the vid 5/5
The WPYR is an absolute must see. If you don't do anything else in Skagway, you need to ride this railroad. One of the best tourist trains in world. It is too bad they open it back up to Whitehorse. That would be a trip like none other.
We went on an Alaskan cruise in late July and the first days of August in 2004. When we saw the history of Skagway and the WP&Y railroad we made plans to ride the train up the mountain. Best part of the entire trip. I hope to make it back to Skagway again.
Thanks for putting up this video! It's nice to see some of the things I miss so much about living up in Whitehorse. It's been quite a few years since I last rode the WP&YR, but it still looks just as amazing as ever!
I was up in that area in '97 and looking at the terrain to try to figure out how that line was built when it was, with no big earthmoving machinery, boggles the mind.
Very nice. I took that trip in 1998. The most memorable rail trip I ever took. When I was there, in August the weather was just perfect. Amazing that people actually walked up that trail. Thanks for the memories.
I was there in September 2004 on our first cruise on Sapphire Princess, not much snow at that time of year though, you captured it so well, thanks for bringing back some good memories, Vernon uk
great video, not trying to be a dork but those very destinctive locomotives were orginally built for a railway in south america but after only one unit was delived they refused to pay for the remaining units even though they had already been built, this was when the WPYR purchased them and evnetually purchased the one unit from the south american railway.

I know what store that train is in in Ketchikan. And I used to drive the tour buses out of Skagway and never got tired of seeing the train.

id like to know does the wp&y still run steam?
zirathekillerlioness 2 years ago
Yes they do. Occassional steam specials I think. I have not ridden behind steam there, but in 2000 I photographed a steam train there.
