  • It’s a very nice evening, an nice summer evening. And both snails turn around at home. They go away very touched, they go away very happy. As they drank a lot, they stagger just a little. But top in the sky, the moon looks after them. (part 3).

Sorry if their few mistakes, it's really easy to translate (I'm french).

    Have fun ;-)

  • if you feel like it. Take it if you like it the bus to Paris, it will leave this evening. You will travel around. But do not take the mourning. It is I who says it to you. That darkens the white of the eye, and then it makes ugly. The stories of coffins, it’s sad and not attractive. Take back you colors, the colors of the life!! So all the animals, trees and plants put themselves has to sing, to troll the true alive song, the song of the summer.(part 2)

  • I can try to translate it aproximatively :

In the funeral of a dead leaf, two snails go away, they have the black shell, crepe around horns , they go away in the evening, a very beautiful autumn evening. Regrettably when they arrive, it is already the spring, the leaves which had died, are all resuscitated, and both snails, are very disappointed. But this is the sun, The sun which says to them, set make the effort, the effort to sit you, have a drink of beer. (part 1)

  • Magnifique, thank U so much, it is a great homage to Prevert, I'm sure he sees it and loves it. Merci beaucoup.

    U rock !

  • I can't find a way he wouldn't be amazing.

  • this makes me think that JGL was probably french in his past life. :3 in the best way possible, of course. all this creativity seems like too much for him to contain or something. which is awesome.

  • Hey Joseph you are really talented - glad to see you're branching out and exploring things outside of acting. Don't let other people pigeonhole you - keep doing your thing. You're cool, and you speak pretty good French too :) (Is that you speaking in the background or someone else?)

PS. I think it's awesome that celebrities are taking to the internet. Power to the people! LOL.

  • I'm not usually one for writing pointless adoring praise. But I fuckin love Joe's personal artistic endeavors. The should accompany all his cinematic releases. Before the the main movie and after the trailers we should be treated to something personal from hitrecord!!

  • I don't know any french at all, but the film was beautiful! The cinematography was great!

  • Paroles: Jacques Prevert

  • It is a very beautiful evening, a beautiful evening in summer, and the two snails returned home. They went warmed and happily, because they had drunk much.

They staggered a little. But high above in the heavens

-- the old moon was over them.

  • Take a glass of beer, if the heart says so to you; if you wish take the bus to Paris.

It leaves tonight. But do not take the grief. It is I who says this to you.

That blackens the white of the eye and then spoils the tales of the coffins.

It is sad and not happy. Take back your colors, the colors of life, and then all the beasts, the trees and plants began to sing to themselves the true songs of spring." And all had something to drink and toast.

  • Two snails went to the burial of a dead leaf.

They had black shells with crêpe on the horns.

They left in the evening, a beautiful evening in autumn.

But when they arrived, it was already spring.

The leaves which were dead were all resurrected, and the two snails were very disappointed.

    But then the sun

-- it was the sun which said to them,"Take, oh take the sorrow, the grief that weighs on you....

  • Can anyone translate this poem to english or does anyone know were to find a translation at.

  • WUNDERBAR< INTERESSANT<SPITZE< I'm not as smart, i speak german. welll, not really, i ATTEMPT to speak german. i'm really not good, but thats okay, i rock at ENGLISH!!!!!!

  • I've been waiting for your Directorial debut since the first time I saw this. It was obviously on it's way. So when are you releasing the Sparks, my brilliant stranger?? If you are nitpicking, I refer you to Twin Peaks "Bob." Lynch kept getting a reflection of one of his crew in the mirror, no matter how he set up the shot. So he kept the happy accident and the crewman thereafter played "Bob." Point: perfection holds no excitement. Think of the cracks in Tom Waits voice, and let it go. Please???

  • This reminds me of when I was a kid. My mom is a French teacher and there was this huge poster of Prévert in my room, and my birthday is the day after his, and my mom used to read his poems to me if I felt sad.

    that is just so great!

  • this is a masterpiece

  • I truly love this poem

This is a phenomenal adaptation and props to Noah Segan as well

  • One Day Joseph G-L is going to direct a movie which will blow us all away.

    vraiment incroiable!

  • @ximenezb

    * Incroyable ;)

  • Woah... cool. I'm an art student and we have to make a short film as part of our training, if only I had Joesph to pall around with and make a film with.

  • so interesting - I love it!

this guy is really talented. Does he direct/edit his videos himself?

  • damn. this is something you make while your stoned or you watch while your stoned

  • Pardon my ignorance, c'est quoi la musique?

  • I want to write a haiku.

  • When I was in elementary school I had to learn this poem by heart, this video makes me remember this short moment of my chilhood. I love it thanks.

  • that was pretty cool dude.

  • what a way to visualize the a poeme like that...

Joseph.. si vous etez a Paris,

viens me chercher pour un petit-dejeuner

    diva

  • Ok, may be you're wright. The song is adapted from a french poetry named JACQUES PREVERT. " Deux escargot..." Very famous, the poem and the writer, in France.

  • If this was done in 1966 Haight/Ashbury San Francisco, I'd have to say that it was LSD INSPIRED

  • A masterpiece.

  • i didnt get it...

  • I loved it!!!! IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL like all of ya work man!!!!

  • you are amazing.

  • This motivated me to write a 5 page history paper!

  • Looks like a David Lynch piece.

  • Beautiful, whimsical, and timeless. I love it.

  • Interesting. O_o

  • That was beautiful. Its really well done, like, honestly.

  • I always loved that Prévert poem... beautiful video. C'est Génial merci

  • Joseph gordon levitt + Paris = HEAVEN!

Heheh, gorgeous clip, I wish I could speak french!

  • I am sorry, I am confused but is he speaking or is it the poet? Well in either case, its fantastic.

  • I had to memorize this poem for French class once. Wonderful interpretation.

  • Amazing.

  • beautiful, inspiring.

  • what the french guy is saying is kinda dumb... lol. i found it kinda stupid. but thats just me. (I speak french-Im bilingual)

  • In the meantime, French immersion teachers smile in their sleep, even though I swap verb tenses halfway through the translation. Very arty farty. See 'Chanson des escargots qui vont à l'enterrement' by Jacques Prevert.

  • Don't take your sorrow because it darkens the brightness and makes it ugly. The histories of coffins are sad and not beautiful. Retake your colours, the colours of life. All the animals, the trees and the plants are singing out the song of life. The whole world's drinking and toasting, it's a beautiful summer night. The two snails go home, very touched and very happy like they've been drinking too much. Overhead, the moon watches over them.

  • It's autumn and there's a dead leaf. A couple of snails show up to eat it, but by the time they get there it's already spring. There aren't any dead leaves, just the newly budded ones. This disappoints the snails. But look, there's the sun! It tells them to take a moment to sit down, have a beer, maybe take the street car to Paris that's coming tonight if they feel like it.

  • Beautiful, inspirational, powerful and moving. What a great film.

  • the other film wasn't really viewed by alot of people (i meant to write) and no one bothered to comment (from those that did see it)

  • Its interesting how everyone seems to be watching a video with a somewhat famous actor in it when there are much better art films than these, not involving any famous people (yet their hearts are more famous than any of them). The other art film was quite interesting.

  • How funnie...(that's meant to be French for funny)...ahem...

  • That was strange and beautiful. I wish I could speak French.

  • tres jolie, et un bonne poem aussi.

congrats on brick, its a triumph

  • I have NO idea what's being said...but LOVE the art. Another Joseph Gordon Levitt masterpiece!

  • i guess that'd be easier to understand if i knew how to speak french. the art was great though, i love mixed media and what not, pish posh and tally ho all those sorts.

  • Wow, that was beautiful.

  • This was beautiful, I loved it. <3

  • Joseph - hitrecord is you, right? - I think you're amazing. :D I'm a huge fan. I ... don't understand a word of this poem. But I'd watch anything you appeared in.

  • That always happens when I try to wipe the fog away from the mirror... I get this spiral and I can't really see myself. It makes it real hard to put on make up. Oh damn it all, anyhow.

  • Wow. Thank you.

  • Oh putain j'aime j'aime j'aime

décalé bizarre rétro nb Paris Paris Prévert poésie Joey gordon Levitt aaaah (l)(l)(l)

  • Thank you.

  • As a Hobby photographer I can Appreciate the texture this film brings but in a Sense the Imagery is Interesting.

    Any more Short films?

  • i'm vegan so i do not eat ESCARGOTS.

coincidentally, i am a student of french and i do not speak french.

  • Another Vegan your like the 4th person today>What A Rarity?

  • breathtaking... simply astonishing

  • The spirals everything makes remind me so much of the imagery in Uzumaki. ...You probably wouldn't be able to eat escargo after watching that movie.

I'm off to find a translation of the poem now.

  • Those spirals reminded me of Uzumaki too. Freakish spirals!!

  • that was hauntingly beautiful
