  • When I was 12 all my friends were buying Step's 1st album...I bought the Holy Bible instead. Best decision I ever made :)

  • Could someone upload a video of this song with the lyrics in the video? I would really appreciate it.

  • the Manic's for me are one of those bands where you realize how fucking brilliant they are when you listen to them. The same with The Beatles and Nirvana... Shame they were never as big as them though...

  • @SuperMegabar I agree... Reminds me of the Tragically Hip... A fine Canadian band...Check their live clips out (then you can understand why Canadians like these boys!)...Make sure to check out older clips like New Orleans Is Sinking (killer whale tank version!)...The Manics are great, but here in North America, nobody knows them...Such a pity...Add to that that I will probably never see them live...(kicks a pebble)... And this song is my fav!

  • @MrKillerDolphins Ohhh... the point of that was the Hip never made it as huge as they should have either!

  • @MrKillerDolphins Checked Tragically Hip out.. Not bad i must say! Yeah that must suck. I'd love to have seen them live in like 93,94 or 95 :/

  • @SuperMegabar Hey...I tried to post a few more Hip tunes for ya to check out in part of our excellent music exchange... It won't let me copy links here... Check out Tragically Hip when they played Woodstock... Poets and Grace, Too will get yer ears moving... And you can see how nuty the lead singer is! Please tell me some good Manic tunes buddy... Tell next time...

  • @SuperMegabar Also check out Tragically Hip - Grace, Too - London, Ontario - 7/7/98 .... Way better than the woodstock version... Gord Downie at his greatest!

  • Wow a lot of pratty drama on this thread...a shame, its a nice video. And this band kicks so much ass! I'm glad I grew up with their powerful music playing in my background.

  • @D0nkeyPunch86 this is what happens when bitches and manic fans fight. It's like Alan Carr scrapping with Graham Norton around here.

  • @D0nkeyPunch86 this is what happens when bitches and manic fans fight. It's like Alan Carr scrapping with Graham Norton around here.

  • I must apologize: i didnt knew this band before the iTunes Festival.

    I'm sorry.

  • Is this a video for a Radiohead song? No. So shut the fuck up about Radiohead. It's Yaoifanboykitty's opinion that they're better than the Manics. So he's most likely trolling and being a dick unneccesarily, but if he isn't then it's just his opinion. Calm the fuck down. If he is trolling, you're giving him just what he wants. Either way, shut up.

  • @eruption257 I enjoy dealing with pathetic little comments via long-winded, essay-like responses. However I can see this is not appreciated here. That raises the question, should I adhere to your standards, and silence myself? Or should I continue using my freedom of expression to nullify childish trolls? I would much prefer to continue as before. My position can be justified by the fact that if you don't like Radiohead comments, don't read them. I will continue feeding the trolls, good day.

  • @billybobs309 Good enough for me.

  • @eruption257 like

  • Most of the lyrics on 'The Holy Bible' are disgusting. Yet at the same time borderline genious.

"Here's a boy, you want a girl then tear off his cock. Tie his hair in bunches, fuck him, call him Rita if you want."

    PS. I love this song.

  • @WidnesWonderwall They're beyond "borderline" ;)

  • @anubis515 radiohead and the manics aren;t anything alike... the manics are more alternative and probably an easier listen. richey is deffinatley a better lyricist, richet meant every single word he said, which is what made him one of the greats... thom just likes to make funny songs :D hate it when thom's music is called "art" i think he just likes to take the piss sometimes :)

  • @jordanbarker676 The intense humming of evil is not an easy listen. Karma Police could fit in on any pop/rock easy-listening playlist.

  • @justanambulance Love your username!! I want to change mine to it :P

  • @justanambulance Couldn't agree more, it's bollocks when people say radiohead aren't easy-listening. It's pleasant music, with some quirky lyrics. Nothing like "i fucked God us the ass", or "Obidience, consent, accept death." Radiohead are basically a pop/rock band with half-decent lyrics. Nothing compared to any of the Manics' stuff though.

  • @billybobs309 Im sorry, but radio head rapes this band.

  • @yaoifanboykitty You obviously don't know anything about music then. Phil Selway himself says that he thinks the manics are better. Radiohead are just another pathetic whiney boy-band. Thom's lyrics are nothing compared to Richey's, or even Nicky Wire's. Sean Moore is a much better drummer than Phil, there's no question there. The manics have better use of other instruments such as strings, etc. They use spoken word clips within songs to great effect, something radiohead have missed out on.

  • @yaoifanboykitty Furthermore James DEan Bradfield is a much better guitarist than Jonny Greenwood, don't even try disputing these facts. Radiohead are not in any way different or special, they have little innovation and have not added anything to the music scene that wasn't already there. Their music has been of the same style throughout their career, with no notably different styles. The manics have maintained a creative progression throughout 10 albums, something radiohead haven't done on two.

  • @yaoifanboykitty You're a moron, Radiohead are a dumbed-down version of Coldplay lmao... They haven't done anything interesting since Karma Police, and even that was nothing compared to most Manics songs. The Holy Bible is a better album that you are capable of understanding. It requires intelligence, and open-mindedmess, two things you clearly do not possess.

  • @justanambulance You want open minded. Check out Don Caballero, Storm and Stress, battles, Red Sparowes, Pelican, Maserati. You aint gotta get all salty because i think your favorite band fucking sucks. Its the god damn internet.

  • @yaoifanboykitty troll has failed

  • @yaoifanboykitty I love the Manics but agree with this sentiment. They're hardly the most innovative of bands, but it's a long way from The Holy Bible to Lifeblood. Send Away the Tigers and the poorly sequenced B sides collection don't exist aside, though, I love them.

  • @yaoifanboykitty Math rock? Not a very good alternative, you're missing the point entirely if you think the manics are comparable to math rock. Deep lyrics, amazing guitar work, and genius songwriting is not in any way bettered by technical drumming or unusual timing.

  • Amazing song, amazing band

  • wow to say this brings back memories is an understatement.

  • The chorus always gives me ghoosebumps!

  • Manic Street Preachers are probably the most underated band ever.

  • this song is soft and harrowing simultaneously...

  • "These sunless afternoons, I can't find myself."

  • great! manics! yes!

  • Are the Manics the only band from Britpop to still be going, and to never have split up?

THB quite possibly the greatest piece of music and poetry since Closer by Joy Division.

  • the manics are quite simply the best band ever. more than 20 years and they are still selling out tours and constantly evolving. nobody can do that these days with their shitty pop music they don't even write themselves!! x factor fuck off and stop destroying music!!!!!

  • anyone else find it ironic that the ads come up at the same time as the first line?

  • voice, lyrics, music. what a good combination !

  • Christians should not be divided into divisions or denominations. The bible says that we should all speak the same thing.

  • @brotherfrank62 Big mouths got us in trouble. Now only knowledge and watchful eyes and ears will get us out of it.

  • This is what you call song writing..As empirelamb1 rightly says i couldnt imagine The Wicked False Witch of the North East Cooing about this on X-Factor.

    Fantastic and intelligent song.

  • 4 people got their cocks torn off...

  • cant see this being a song choice on the x factor .More relevant now than ever.

  • Wow. When I was younger I only knew Manics through Design for Life and Kevin Carter etc. Then I discovered "The Holy Bible"... Definetely one of my top 5 albums of ALL time... Pure genius.

  • @troyr92 Similar here.

  • Clearing up the misunderstanding about tithing in today's New Testament Church.

  • @brotherfrank62 wait what?

  • i didn't know them until a week ago and I just love the holy bible

  • i first heard this record in 2007 at the same time i was going to the hospital to later be diagnosed with a very serious neurological issue.

this album was my soundtrack, it felt like someone else had been down the same road as me

  • amazing song, can't think of anything more profound right now. Phew!

  • As a typical metaller, i wouldn't normally look into this type of band... but goddamn, this album just speaks to me, even if the rest of their discography doesn't.

  • richey isnt dead.

  • @Libertinedreamful We dont know that for sure

  • @birdy47 read the lyrics to 'bag lady' the first line says it all.

  • @Libertinedreamful Oh, yeah thats total proof.... Im not saying he is dead im just stating facts.

  • @Libertinedreamful and also, you could also say the same for 'William's Last Words' being a suicide note. It sounds it

  • @birdy47 it does sound like a suicide note i admit, but it could be just a letter stating that hes leaving. Yet he always said he stayed true to his lyrics....then again he never ripped anyones cock off did he?

  • @Libertinedreamful Actualy this song is about him feeling like a prostitute. But anyway back to is Richie dead or not i guess we'll never know for sure... unless he comes back that is.

  • I think most fans mourn not so much Richey's 'death' but what could have been. The style, the emotion, the lyrics that we've missed out on

  • sketchy as hell..

  • @emobabe676 go fart in a bag then inhale

  • As a MSP fan for over 15 years,,,, go get a fucking klife. >:D

  • Brilliant song. Brilliant band. Stop your "mourning", all you fans. You didn't know him. Give it a rest. Just enjoy the legacy. Imagine that the bloke who designed YOUR Ford Focus has just disappeared - are you weeping? No - but his friends and family are. Bit of perspective, eh? Bit of fukn respect and consideration. Admire the man's work and stop pretending that he was talking directly to you. Other people are genuinely devastated. They have lost their son / friend / bandmate. Think on.

  • "power produces desire, the weak have none.."

    what a lyric

  • This song is awesome!

  • Favourite song ever.

    xx

  • Amazing poetry, amazing understanding.

  • So good. Thos song holds up years later. MSP f-ing RULES!

  • correction...they FUCKING rule!

  • Comment removed

  • Richey =(

  • @Unsatisfied17

I've heard it on very good authority that he is okay :)

  • @Rosie4rsecheeks what do you mean youve heard on very good authority that he's okay......isnt he still missing?

  • @xemilyxplicitx

yeah but the rumours have been going round, especially in the press, that he is missing, presumed dead. If he is missing, its what he decided to to; escpape and disappear ;)

My source is their former manager and he says that he is certain.

  • @Rosie4rsecheeks wait so is he missing or nott? beacause in the short time that i have lovedd the manics, i thought he was missing.....i mean i dont think hes dead....but its great if he wasnt even missing:D thats pretty cool that you know their former manager.

  • @xemilyxplicitx

Oh yes I mean he is certainly missing! Thing is he just disappeared when the fame and the band was heading in a direction he didnt like. I can't tell you how much respect I have for him to do that... juts walk away from the world at your feet becasue you know it will consume all of you if you stayed. Im sure he is having a grwat life, chosen by himself :)

  • @Rosie4rsecheeks Yeah the guys is Nick Osbourne, he teaches music business at south thames college, lovely guy :) He managed PJ harvey as well..

  • @Rosie4rsecheeks yeah, i agree on that. i wasnt around when he disappeared, but i just cant imagine that he killed himself. it must have took alot of strength for him not to tell anyone....sometimes i wonder if he told nicky where he went. but i dunno. i wish he was around

  • Manic street preachers have the most powerfull lyrics I've ever seen in rock n roll

  • What a beautiful, savage, articulate and witty song. If only the dross that passes for rock music these days had half the intelligence.

  • I got this album for christmas along with mellon collie and the infinite sadness, unknown pleasures and infinity on high. Woohoo. I adore this song at the moment. Just learnt to play the riff.

"He's a boy, you want a girl so tear off his cock" =D

  • You ruined that comment by saying Infinity on High. But Mellon Collie, Unknown Pleasures and The Holy Bible are magnificent albums.

  • Vlodrack you sound like you had the best Christmas ever! The Holy Bible and Mellon Collie are my two favourite records!

  • "I eat and I dress and I wash and I still can stay thank you / puking shaking sinking I still stand for old ladies"

Even by Richey's high standards, Yes truly has to be one of his best ever lyrics x

  • I think Richey is the greatest poet in my lifetime. No one has gone deeper into the reality of life.

  • True...the guitar riff is so fucking amazing!!

  • And that has to be one of the single greatest guitar riffs to come out of punk...

  • Arguably their best song - absolutely incredibly, musically and lyrically.

  • Richey was such a brilliant writer. It's hard to find songs that actually have well written lyrics.

  • @madmethod21 for well-written lyrics you could try pixies, smashing pumpkins, afghan whigs, and depending on your political leanings, the mob, crass and conflict. Enjoy!

  • I think there were several strands of pop music in the eighties. Take Billy Bragg, Kirsty McColl, Morrissey, Stone Roses, James etc. I'd be happy to fit the manics in amongst them. Then there is your awful Wallmart pop, film anthems, and boy bands. Stuff that makes you want to vomit yourself inside out and wear it like a fashion. I dont think that the Manics sold out so much as there was just nowhere to go. Nothing was really happening. Were stuck in post modern limbo.

  • I can't get the 'I eat and I dress' bit out of my head...

  • Does anyone have any idea what "I 'T' them" means?

  • The song is about how Richey saw the band as prostituting themselves to fame, and "I T them" was, supposedly, hooker slang for "tossing off", which he got from the TV documentary on the subject that provides the samples at the start and the end of the song

  • quality piece of info evermore. thanks.

  • Apparently "T'ing" someone is slang among prostitutes for tossing someone off

  • Neat, didn't know that.

  • im glad i enjoyed this in my high school years..

  • I really hate people who speak about the Manics as if they were going to read it themselves. Oooh! "It's such an unappreciated album! So under-rated (despite the Manics' now huge fan base), and so powerful!". You suck Cock. The album was great, the band is great. Leave it at that you morons.

  • People just want to discuss a phenomenon. The Manics' came about when Brit pop and the Pearl Jam/Nirvana fued was happening. They were the only alternative. You have to remember that at the time 90% of pubs and clubs played that awful rave music which has now all but vanished. The Manics' were anti drug, socialists with an attitude in a time when complete stupidity ruled.

  • i remember my sister buying smash hits in the late 80's and they ripped on the manics every fucking issue. well....they outlasted that poxy magazine, they outlasted britpop and they are quite frankly the most underrated band in Britain. i still think they 'sold out' for the everything must go era to fit in with britpop though.

  • Still produced some good albums tho

  • What, and stupidity doesn't rule now?

  • I think there are some pretty good bands going just now. Muse are pretty good. Personally I'd love to see a band of their stature play in another European city.

  • I'm going to see MUSE!!!!!!

Also, I got this album for christmas. =D

  • Where about are you going to see them?

  • At the next wembley gig, I'm going with my friend. =D

  • Fuck Muse

  • apart from having incredible lyrics

this song has such an incredbilely odd time signature, but it still manages to be catchy. and james sings it in a different time sig too. amazing

  • only bought the holy bible 3 weeks ago, so glad i did, this is probably my favourite off the album, great lyrics great song!

  • No matter what they've become, you just can't argue with this. Probably would have been the biggest band in the world if Richey had stayed

  • who trust bible?!!!

    damn all those people!!!!!

  • The best lyrics ever. Possibly the most powerful song ever written, on the most powerful, heavy album ever recorded. No one has even come close to writing lyrics as powerful as this band. The Holy Bible is the most powerful ever, especially 4st 7lbs, and Die in the Summertime. Bloody Brill!!!

  • Well, this and "Journal for plague lovers"

  • The most unbearable, moving, thoughtful, incredible, intelligent, stunning set of lyrics ever set to music.

  • youre right but that statement describes the whole of the holy bible , the greatest most unapperciated album of all time.

  • @Michaelmc352 Yes.

  • @Michaelmc352

You can thank JDB for the " set to music' part.

It's fucking mind-blowing how he could make music to Richey's Amazing, yet undeniably sporadic lyrical output. Two geniuses for sure.

  • Being a moody 10th grader again right now cause of this song

  • "all virgins are liars"...

"for 200 anyone can conceive a god on video"

two of the truest and greatest lines ever in a song

  • I love Manic Street Preachers!

  • F***ing Amazing!!!

  • Relevant. Love it.

  • why shud we take insults from a guy whos username is vanilla light ??? go and shove some ice cream up ur arse

  • Obvious troll is obvious.

  • If you like this, you should listen to the U.S. mix, quality.

  • yh, i think the US mix is better than the actual album itself!! that is just an opinion

  • the US versoin of faster is terrible but the rest is very good especially "yes".

  • i like the US version of faster, but i do prefer the british version of faster

  • another thing we do better than them...

  • I think Yes, She Is Suffering and Die in the Summertime are all improvements (possibly The Intense Humming of Evil too).

  • this albumn blows my flute , raw and not capped, i judge raw music to its pattern. lets hope the shite we have to listen in the future rims this or we are all eh well totaly fu ck ed fu ck it am scottish and never diversticated so sook ma rook. x luv ye reely.

  • Musically brilliant, the lyrics are very deep and fucked up. The ramblings of a genius at the edge of madness

  • I feel numb everytime I hear this song.

    It's just so.. amazing,

The first song I ever heard by the manics, and I was carried away.

God, how can I even try to describe how great it is?

  • this album is flawless.

  • Possibly the best song ever on the best album ever.

  • Agreed!

  • This is what songs were invented for, fucking awesome.

  • The best lyrically composed song of all time.

  • This is the most listened to song on my ipod. Why? Because its impossible to skip the track once you've started listening to it.

  • my favourite ever song... power produces desire, the weak have none - shivers down my spine ever time..

  • Tie my hair in bunches, fuck me, call me Rita if you want.

  • this is my favourate song by the manics and what a song it is!!!!!!

  • the only thing i hate about these bastards is that they never come to the states....forcing me to go to the UK to see them. Wouldn't it be funny if Yes did a song called "manic street preachers?" :)

  • ..I always think of what might have happened had they stepped on to that plane to the states in '95...

  • I LOVE the outro.

  • one of the most important bands in music

  • MSP are the shit!!!

  • Maybe the best song of the whole album

  • This is the only album I can think of where not one single track disappoints! From Yes to PCP, it never eases off the senses. Pure class!!

  • absolutely, every track has a deep sense of emotion, it seems like so much was put into the lyrics, i think it's incredible how JDB made music which gives the lyrics the stage they deserve, it all fits together in a disconcerting way, it's genius.

  • this is one of my favourate albums of all time!

i went to see them on new years eve 2000 at the millenium stadium they were great.

  • best album ever

  • best album ever and best song ever!

  • A good song.

  • Holy Bible is Probably One Of The Best Albums I've EVER Bought.

Actually It Is The Best. (:

  • i fink send away the tigers is a far better song.........lol only jkin

  • Best damn song I've ever heard.

It's not my favourite, but it's still the greatest song ever made.

  • I was listening to David Bowie's 'Lady Stardust' and it made me think of Richey.

"Lady Stardust sang his songs of Darkness and Discrace. And he was alright, the band was all together"

The Holy Bible. The greatest album ever.

  • "Everyone I've loved or hated always seems to leave."

'Brilliant' doesn't do this band justice.

  • way better than the bland middle of the road they are today...

  • good song, id sell the world if i could, so yeah its great.

  • I don't think a day goes by without me quoting at least one line from this song.

  • Kinda The Same For Me (:

  • No one can touch this band when it comes to lyrics. "Just an ambulance at the bottom of a cliff" ...a sign of things to come maybe. In my opinion, this song and Faster are the best lyrics that were ever written. No one even comes close. Just my opinion.

  • And your opinion is a very valid one mate. This is my favourite album of all time-solid fucking gold and in my eyes unsurpassable.

  • +1

    incredible album
