  • Great playing! Chris would be proud. You've got an amazingly fast/twitchy index finger on your right hand. Also, good tone for using fingers. I'm pretty sure Squire relies on a pick for that bright tone.

  • hey man what is the tab for that riff your doing at 0:24

  • U are da bawsss

  • Why u no shatter windows?? :D

  • I'm going to take a break from drumming and devote as much of my life as I can to learn THIS base line.

  • did you learned it from a tab? If yes can you show it to me?

Nice vid though i LIKED it.

  • Nice!!!

  • WOW! The best I've seen/heard on Youtube....YOU RULE!!!

  • @theairbrushdude Thanks! Glad you like it!

  • how do you get that pick-ish sound? especially playing so close to the neck.

  • @creedence18 Couple of things going on there. Low action, hard attack, and calluses on my fingertips. All together gets the effect you've noticed.

  • @BobbyKos Can you explain what you mean by low action?

  • effect? single pickup?

  • @TheShryesrivastav No effects. Both pickups running through an on-board East J-Retro preamp.

  • AWESOME!!! Dude, your fingerowrk is epic. you've gotta have forearms like popeye! keep it up man!

  • @wornoutshoes81 Thanks!

  • I did not know this song (I know the song "Rio" by Duran Duran (small pub = p)) but I have a time to say one thing ...

  • se riffa señor no la quiere tocar conmigo xD!!!

  • Great job! And great tone as well.

I wanna learn this song and upload a video as soon as I can.

It´s cool to see that you use your fingers, in most of bass covers I´ve seen the guys using a pick. I still don´t know too much about Cris Squire... does he use a pick or his finger to play this song?

  • @Dente18 He uses a pick. I don't know if it's true, but I read a long time ago that he used a quarter coin to get some of his sound. Might be urban legend though.

  • Really nice tone, what gear do you use?

  • Bobby, I REALLY dig your cover of Roundabout. I play a lot of bass myself 20+ yrs. and your single finger (JJamerson?) technique is BRILLIANT on this song! Real crisp and solid-sounding.. Great job.

  • Bobby, I REALLY dig your cover of Roundabout. I play a lot of bass myself 20+ yrs. and your single finger (JJamerson?) technique is BRILLIANT on this song! Real crisp and sold-sounding.. Great job.

  • oh shit i think my ears just had an orgasm

  • That Jazz Bass is gorgogeus!

  • i like the geddy lee thing you're doing there with the index

  • cool that helped me figure it out thankee kindly!

  • Liking the Bill Bailey look you've got going there.

  • Interesting technique... Good job.

  • Nice playing sounds good. @ 5:27 the run up starts on a G . Been playing this one for a bit now ,took me a while to learn it too. Keep up the good playing. Just getting started on here myself, peace!

  • It would sound much more like Squire's work if you actually used a pick..

  • You seem to be in such a good mood haha

  • Nice job...good to see someone actually replies to comments.

  • @BobbyKos Holy crap man, do you perform?

  • i love this bassl ine!

  • Plucking the mute string in the fast part of the main riff is a pain in the ass.

  • Shit, I wish I could play as good as you, man.

  • You sir, are a boss

  • Oh my fucking god, that's an amazing tone you got there bro, I'm jealous.

  • sweet jesus look at his fingers go. thumbs way up man, you earned it.

  • your fingerstyle is udes by geddy lee in animate...it's great to see this fantastic playing, congratulations!

  • Real nice job man!! what year is your Jazz Bass and did you add a preamp to it? you really get that rickenbacker sound that. only a jazz bass can do. again nice job though i can tell you've been playing this tune for years.

  • awesome

  • very nice. I like the the way you use the finger style. Liked, of course. :)

  • SICK BASS. fender jazz bass, i like it

  • Absolutely damn tight! I love your timing! Great use of harmonics. Nice slides too. Not everybody gets them right. Gonna tackle close to the edge?

  • you stared into my soul!!! O.o

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    great tecnic!!!!

  • Crazy.

  • I don't care if the song was played with a pick, I think it sounds so much better like this. Great job man.

  • Nice job, one of my favorites as well.

  • Excellent tone coming out of that Fender. Well done!

  • You gave a very nice twist to this classic song, thumbs up man!

  • Great to see someone do this fingerstyle, I'm guessing you're using both sides of the index finger for the main riff? Cracking tone either way! Definitely using this as a point for my attempt at a cover :D

  • @thetawaves90

Thanks. You are right - I use the top of my index finger for the fast parts. I'm not that good that I can get the speed using two or four fingers. So I cheat a little... :-)

  • @BobbyKos

Cheat schmeat. Who cares how you do it? You sound great. Nice job!

  • That too good! Really!! I'm not kidin! I wanna play like this someday!!! :D

  • that was pretty sweet dude.

  • I was wondering if you could post a Bass tab for this song. I looked on Ultimate guitar and they don't have any good tabs

  • Are you a Tony Levin fan? The sound you get reminds me of him, just need some funk fingers.

  • Hi there, great cover! I was wondering how you obtain such a nice metallic tone. I have a Fender Jazz Bass too, any tips would be greatly appreciated :) Again, this is one of the best Roundabout bass covers on youtube!

  • Thanks for the props. The metallic tone comes alot from my right hand. I have calluses on my fingertips and insted of a nice soft thump when I play, I get the attack that you hear. I used the preamp in this bass to accentuate the tone, but it's there no matter what bass I'm playing. Truth told, it's a P.I.T.A. because I have to try to dial it out alot of the time. If you don't have a pre in your Jazz Bass, look at the Audere JZ3 or the East J-Retro. I have both and they're great!

  • @BobbyKos holy nuts thats crazy how many years of playing does it take for your fingers to sound like that?

  • Your a badass..

  • That was cool. Nice work.

  • That was gnarly

  • Absolutely perfect.

  • Absolutely brilliant, flawless :)

Fragile is my favourite album so it's nice to see covers like these ;)

  • great job.

  • It would be sweet if you did a won't get fooled again by the who cover.

  • effortless...if only i could...nice work...great song

  • I WAS going to give this one a go.......

now I'll just pretend I did.

love how you're just staring at the camera..."school is in session...pay attention kids..."

  • What is your honest opinion about the Nordstrands?

  • In all honesty, I like them ALOT. I'm not just saying that because I bought expensive pickups. They work really well. I like the single coil Jazz Bass sound. The Nordstrand Big Singles do that sound very well. With the J-Retro in this bass, there's none of the single coil noise to deal with. All the positive hype about the Big Single pickup is well deserved.

  • @BobbyKos

how did you get this tone?

  • só vou valar três coisas....

    1) WOW

    2) WOW

    3) Eu vou me inscrever no seu perfil

    OBS.: WOW

  • Awesome! I need to learn this, amazing job, you have an awesome tone and an awesome bass! How much did that thing cost? Anyways, 10000000/5

  • valeu, bobby!

incrível sua performance para essa que é uma das mais formidáveis linhas de baixo da música popular mundial. adicionei seu vídeo como um de meus favoritos.

abraço e congratulações aqui do brasil.

    M.

  • Obrigado!

  • Bob, thats really good man! When are you going to do a Primus cover?

  • Nice Job Man!

  • This just rocks! What is THAT bass it sounds awesome?

  • Thanks! The bass is a Warmoth walnut body with an Allparts neck. Tasties include J-Retro Deluxe preamp, Badass II bridge, Nordstrand Big Single pickups and R.Cocco nickel strings. The bass was put together by someone else and he did a FANTASTIC job with all the details. I really like it. It plays well for me.

  • R A W K !

  • Ugh I need to learn this.

    It's so damn fast though.

  • WTF Bob - no heart of the sunrise? Nice Job, I wish I could do that

  • Thanks! I didn't think of that tune. Maybe I'll work it out and post it.

  • saw the post on TB, and had to come take a look....excellent my friend BUT--your Pitts tunnel video is WAY MORE "accurate"...lol

I have lived in Pgh all my life :)

  • Hee hee. It IS more accurate. I hate those tunnels!!
