thanks for the info. sure the video is dated but i needed this info and this was perfect. Ill be testing for flux and mig next week and wanted to see the differences in setup. safety is important but not being a crybaby about it is even more important. that old man knows more about welding than anyone leaving comments anyway, so he knows whats up with safety. i bet if he grabbed your arm it would bleed because you weren't allowed to go outside and play. @pff
I don't really know when the video was made. I would guess sometime in the late 80's as Clarke wasn't around in the 70's. This video was taken off of a VHS tape that was used as a training video. The video was made for tool-mall. com which is no longer around. Clarke went out of business in 2009.
@alexpoz09 Flux core welding can actually benefit from the addition of shielding gas, although you usally dont see anybody do it since most people that are using flux core are doing so because they cant afford gas or are outside.
@FTBoogie Flux cored with gas is a standard procedure used for most production welding of over 6mm thickness metal. Commonly referred to as outershield.
@smokemansmoker ok, so I'm guessing it doesn't bother you having your hands looking like George A Romeros night of the living dead zombies, and skin cancer looking like a freezer burned sausage. Then you must be one tough son of a bitch! difficult to look at too!
who ever has been doing the negative feedback for prestonkd's and mine obviously doesn't know anything about welding safety or shop safety(I hope toolmall isn't the one doing it,as that would be a incredible shame)
Was this video made in the 60's or something? Where are the welding gloves? Exposed skin for welding? Flammable clothing? Changing the tip with the power connected? A lot of very unsafe practices.
@smokemansmoker bull shit ignorant ass you talk as if your above every body else it does not matter what nation you live in is common sense is a impediment to you ?
@Mentorcase I don't know what you are calling the "real world" but the places I have been will show you the door real quick for not observing basic safety practices like wearing REQUIRED safety equipment. It's one thing to weld something quickly in your garage without putting on every piece safety gear. To me it is a totally different thing to make a video ABOUT procedure and to get it so wrong.
@Mentorcase I will take that comment to mean that you think the guy in the video is following proper procedure and that new welders should learn from this and weld this way. We both know that is not the case. There isn't a welding school, or even a "how-to" pamphlet that would teach welding like this or condone it. Foolish things you choose to do yourself are one thing. When you teach others how to do it wrong-and dangerously while telling them "this is how it's done" it just isn't right.
@Mentorcase As for the safety inspector comment, even though I'm not one, it seems to me that the only reason safety inspectors became necessary was because people were intentionally choosing not to wear safety equipment, follow procedures or disabling safety precautions because they were in the way. Guess what happened- people were getting hurt. The procedures shown here are wrong. That is my only point. New welders should not watch this and think that they are being taught correctly or safely.
There are the years before men turned into PUSSIES -- I dont weld with gloves and a space suit - me a man not some safety bitch -- as a man you can make your OWN saftey decisions, not some sheeple 'do this do that becasue its the safe way' BS ---
@personalfunfest Certainly you have the right to injure yourself and violate whatever safety rules you want. What you shouldn’t do is make a video aimed at showing new or inexperienced welders how to properly perform a task, violate basically every safety rule that pertains to welding and tell them that that is the proper way to do it.
You have the right to be a pussy too! Fuck you and YOUR pansy saftey rules! You can PROPERLY weld without gloves you imbecile -- your saftey nonsense has nothing to do with proper welding! moran
@personalfunfest When a position is unsupportable and you are plainly wrong, the only recourse is name calling and profanity. I thought I was talking to a man. You are clearly a boy. A boy who attempts to validate himself by anonymous internet chest pounding and acting out. You are free to weld anyway you choose. I give you permission. I know that’s what you wanted.

When welding, it appears it it not necessary to button your polyester shirt. Just take that shit in the bare chest like a man.

I am a half assed welder but I did hear her say 2 to 4 cubic feet per hour. Is that right or should it be cubic feet per minute??
