@ucantcme999 I really need your help. I just got my XBOX yesterday, turned it on for the 2nd time today and started to play L4D2 and there were horizontal bars on the screen and it was strobing. Is that an e74 error or a loose cable? I was too nervous to wait for it to do something so I shut it off and I am trubleshooting for a correct answer. Please Help!

See that's exactly why I opted not to get a 360 Elite. Man if Mirco Soft could just get their console to not freaking break then they would get more sales. I just can't buy something that is breaking on people. That's why I just got a PS3. I like both consoles and would buy both, but I don't want to buy something that has such a high failure rate.

I had one red light come on my elite the other day. It had E74 error on the screen. I called xbox and they said if it's 1 or 3 lights they will fix for free as they have extended the warranty to 3 years on 1 and 3 red lights. I'm in the UK. Mine left for Germany this morning to get fixed.

@daverkl did you know you are not getting your own xbox back ? you get the xbox of someone else who has send it to microsoft, because fixing a xbox360 taxes weeks.

Placing the 360 on the bed kinda doesn't help, it needs better air flow. It still doesnt compensate for what happened but keeping the 360 on a flat surface helps. Even some PS2's overheat if left on a bed or non flat surface.

My xbox was only on the bed for video purposes. If you look closely I have a small stand under my tv. Thats where my xbox was. ^^

I did troubleshooting and I took everything out of my xbox, put it back in and it still didnt work.

I got a new one though and my harddrive still worked.

But what I have heard, it can be harddrive.

Mainly the AV cable port or GPU or HANA graphics failure.

Each xbox has a 12 months warranty, meaning your covered for a year if your xbox breaks, you can take it back to were you bought it from and they should legally give you a new one without charge. I know what you mean though. Microsoft need to sort this out.

What I did was send my xbox back to microsoft under the pretense of the red ring of death. This is covered for an additional 3 years without payment. Turnaround time is like 5 or 6 business days. But make sure you tell them that b4 you error 74 you got the red ring.

It doesn't cost any money if you have warranty. You can simply take it back to the shop you purchased it from and they should change it for nothing. However, Microsoft will fix this problem for free if your sending it away. Usually to Germany or Hertfordshire if you live in the UK.

PEOPLE I JUST FUOUND A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM!!!! Send me a message to tell me if it worked! First get a humid towel, wrap it around the xbox 360 make sure to wrap around fan, add a quilt around the xbox and wait for ten minutes. it worked for me.
