It's not a question of what is best. Each has its advantages. I am also a "conventional" sailor so understand about sails also. Yes, sails have many different adjustments - that's just the point - too many. If you wan't to be fiddling with them continuously. What a blessing to have something at adjusts itself! My wings at self-trimming.
Bulldog, I hate to tell you. but... Sails are wings and operate on the exact same principal as this. It has been argued that solid "wing" sails such as this are more efficient than canvas sails. (at least at high speeds)
By the way ZKMX7, you have some amazing creations. Have you ever considered vertical axis turbines on your turbine boats?

Sails can be reefed. Sails have many different adjustments that allow you to fine tune the performance of your boat to suit the weather conditions.
I am well aware that a sail is a type of wing since I make my own sails.
Everyone thinks they have a "new and improved way of doing things that isn't improved but just different.

I have used solid wings on my model sailing boats and in the end sails are more versatile and convenient.
