Apparently Raziel did not resist it's influence. The same corruption that affected the Circle, and dwelled in Avernus, took hold of Raziel short after, causing him to attack Kain.
Wait !! I realise now. It was not Kain's refusal to die, that destroyed Nosgoth, but Raziel's murder of Kain (last scion of balance) in Avernus Cathedral. After he ripped out the heart of darkness from kain's chest, a portal to the other side opened, and Raziel threw Kain into it.

These murals have nothing to do with Raziel or Kain, who were never supposed to fight.
It's the Hylden general, who becomes the Sarafan lord. That fights Kain, then loses to him in the end.
