I feel like I'm watching this movie all over again. Even after all these years, I still remember from "the Norther Lights signal from Jenna" to "the recognition of the wolf spirit in Balto scene" towards "Pulling the Medicine back up to the top of the cliff" to "sniffing out the road home (tree marks scene)" to "Nearly being pulled down another cliff by the sleigh and making it back up using the the twig"...... MAN!!! I still remember all that just by listening to this specific track =D
An absolute classic film, Balto is! My favourite quote from the film is; 'Let me tell you something, Balto. A dog cannot make this journey alone but..maybe a wolf can!'
I remember renting this on vhs (long before dvds came out) as a kid from a public library on a 3 day weekend from school.
I must have watched it nearly 2 dozen times and every single time, when Boris's words echo through Balto's mind and when he starts howling with the white wolf, I got chills every sing time.
Even today, I get chills and tears from this scene and I'm 27.
I want to watch this movie so much more than I did before I watched this video. >.< But I don't have it... *sigh* I haven't seen this movie in a looonnnggg time.
Wasn't Balto ashamed of being half wolf? I remembering being confused about that--wolves are very noble creatures by nature, not to mention magnificent.
@19lemons93 But to a dog, or most humans in that environment, wolves are dangerous and threatening, and even nuisances. A dog would have hated them for being a threat, and for disregarding the humans' society so much, and Balto did grow up around the town, so he would have had that point of view.
Not saying I agree, just that that's how he saw things at the beginning of the movie.
@ThePlatypusAgent Have I not seen you somewhere before? :) Like maybe on the How to Train Your Dragon soundtracks? You, my good man, have good taste in music! :D
OMG! I loved this part when I was a little girl and I still do. Everytime I see it I get all sad inside, not really sure why but I do. I love and always will this movie and the story. <3333
From 1:30 to 3:15 always gave me chills and goosebumps at the same time, ever since i was a little girl. Balto is such an amazing movie with a brilliant score. James Horner is a talented and beyond magnificent, I'm in love with this movie thanks to this song, and the bravery of this dog. I love this song, and Balto. :)
@shawnygz yea and you have to live in cold climate areas to have a husky. I guess you could go with an Alaskan husky, not sure what the difference is.
I love this song so much. I was feeling nostalgic for old music from some of my fav childhood movies. *tears* I'm 17 and feel like I did when I was like 6 XD This movie made me love wolves and huskies and now I own a Siberian husky who happens to look just like Steel lol
The best part : 1.44 to 2.38 :') the most beautiful cartoon music I have ever heard ! that is this melody I was looking for before I get to this page ! :)
How come most of James Horner's stuff is pretty mediocre, yet when it comes to these moments the soundtracks are absolutely speechlessly amazing. They make me feel cold watching the movie, and give me people bumps.
If all his soundtracks were this good, then he would shame Hans Zimmer and John Powell combined.
This movie in itself is becoming rare to find. I managed to grab a copy from Amazon.com with only 14 left in stock. I have it on VHS still but.. having the dvd is worth it to keep its playback going. and so far I have watched it five times. Like HalaLV said I love Hans Zimmer music. But realizing James Horner did this movie aswell as Avatar? Just makes you wonder in all honesty.
Agh, at last! This tune kept randomly popping in my head for ages or I'd hear something on tv resembling it and I'd start humming this, asking everyone if they remembered where it was from. <3 haunting and gorgeous, I love the build up.
From 1:20 ... Awsome!!!!! I've seen Balto about 3 Years ago the last time but Everytime i hear this Song, i see the Scenes of Balto in my head, like there is a TV playin' it right in my head! It's just like James Horner! Totaly Genius!!!!

@19lemons93 It's really just about him being different, and being looked down upon because of it. A hybrid. A mutation. Not normal.
I agree with you though; if I were Balto I would take pride in my wolf side, just as anyone who is different should.
