I just cant get used to applause at funerals. As long as everyone there loves it I see no reason not to do it. Here in the US it might be met with a surprised look by some.
@szqsk8 well maybe because she is the queen. Perhaps they are applauding because they want to congratulate the queen for a job well done while she was still alive...I think it signifies praise for her excellence.
@MrGurlyboy - People here consider a funeral a solemn occasion. That's just how it is. It's neither wrong nor right, it just is. Personally I'd rather like people to applaud me while I was alive to appreciate it.
@MrGurlyboy - Geez dumbass not ME personally. If I were the Queen or Queen Mother I would rather know how people feel while I was still here to see and hear it. What a MO!
There was clapping at dianas funeral too, it respectful, to celebrate the life

an applause in a noble person's funeral procession is not an insult but it is rather a complement and praise of full admiration and honor.

@watermonkey88 Yes, she was one of the more popular members of the royal family, I can understand the applause.

@szqsk8 A lot of the things you do in the US raises some eyebrows here, too. Why not celebrate the life of somebody rather than be miserable?

@szqsk8 You don't cheer at a funeral so you can take it as a sign of respect when some clapped, how else can they show what they felt.
