  • These guys are good. Some of their versions are the best I've heard, but I have to say for "Whiskey in The Jar" check out the Kilkennys. You may or may not agree but give a listen to this and some of their other songs and see if you don't also become a fan.

  • @thelegendohara No one can replace the dubliners FACT :)

  • @thelegendohara i dont like tht comparisson

  • Darren and Brian are so handsome. Are they related? Anyone?

  • I am American but I like these songs. I am glad I am not Irish though.

  • That handsome third guy from the left is my favorite. What's his name? He's really cool. Actually, they all are :p

  • High Kings are the next generation of the Clancy Brothers and the legecy is in good hands.

  • If there are such wonderful performers over in Ireland, what was bloody JEDWARD doing in the Eurovision???

  • @kathykisslight1 good point, its even sad when people say jeward are talented ,such deluded people

  • @UARE2011 : Well, they were talented enough in the art of fame-making. I don`t know how they did it. Anyway, I don`t have a high opinion on X Factor either. The kind of "artists" that come out...I will just rather not comment on that.

  • u no wa i hate.wen americans are all like "im sorta irish my great great grandas goldfish came from ireland"if u wernt born in ireland ur ma and da isnt from ireland then ur not irish

  • This is great! But i LOVE the Celtic Thunder version!! :D -3.

  • 0:15 seconds!!!!!!! its a Mario!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have loved the high kings ever since they came out and the same with Celtic thunder...... I love them both to death!!!!!

  • Did anybody else see that thug play his accordion like a boss at 1:23?!

  • Peter, Paul and Mary did a version on one of their earliest albums

  • Had to check out Celtic Thunder after seeing some of the Comments posted - out of a sense of scientific curiosity. I'd go see them but I would do so with an image in my mind of the expression on Phil Lynott's face up in music heaven :-) Liking High Kings - hell it's all good music!!!

  • Any song by the high kings are good and cheerful, the celtic thunder band might be just as good but i wont give an oppinion because i havn't heard them, i hate it when people insult a band or person they have never seen or heard before.

  • this is the first time i hear this song by some guys other than MetallicA

    nice

  • A bowler hat, pin stripe suit, and a banjo, Coolest guy alive?

  • love the high kings, but thin lizzy is the best version for me

  • Awful, couldnt watch any more than a minute of this

  • Metallica does the best cover of this song

  • @mastodon4thewin1991 no they don't the better cover of this song is by Thin Lizzy

  • @Freyja1133 metallicas cover is 1000x times better than thin lizzys and is so much better of a band than thin lizzy will ever be

  • @mastodon4thewin1991 let's see metallica stay together as long as TL first

  • @Freyja1133 they've been together over 30 years what are you talking about

  • @mastodon4thewin1991 Metalicca covered a cover

  • I think this is one of the best versions of this song. :D

  • MetallicA do the cover "Whiskey in the jar". This song is original of the high kings??

  • no they didnt @MetallicAyManowaR

i think seamus ennis performed this first in 1952 the dubliners made it famous in the 1960s

  • @madfortrad5958 Yeah... I love this version, but nothing beats the Thin Lizzy version

  • @madfortrad5958 Metalicca ruined it in the 1990s

  • Comment removed

  • @madfortrad5958

    Then Thin Lizzy did it.

  • @madfortrad5958 And once it was famous, Thin Lizzy covered it, and it was their version that Metallica covered.

  • @madfortrad5958 I think it's a lot older than that. For these kind of songs it's impossible to put a date on them...

  • @jdg120789

    I found this on wikipedia.

"The song's exact origins are unknown. A number of its lines and the general plot resemble those of a contemporary broadside ballad "Patrick Fleming" (also called "Patrick Flemmen he was a Valiant Soldier") about an Irish highwayman executed in 1650....In the book The Folk Songs of North America, folk music historian Alan Lomax suggests that the song originated in the 17th century..."

  • @madfortrad5958 The Clancys and Makem also made it popular in the 60s

  • @madfortrad5958

but this is a national irish song ? right ?

  • @madfortrad5958 This song is an Irish pubsong from the 1870`s. It was taken ons-tage in the mid 1900`s but it was about long before.

  • @madfortrad5958 yes metallica redid the song but it sounds like crap.thumbs up if you agree.

  • @madfortrad5958

it's a traditional irish song...the writer is unknown...this song belongs to nobody, though ;)

  • @ToastDoc Wrong! It belongs to the Irish! :)

  • @zoltanvincze0

    i already said that ;)

  • @madfortrad5958

"In the book The Folk Songs of North America, folk music historian Alan Lomax suggests that the song originated in the 17th century" Wikipedia says :D

  • @madfortrad5958 not correct ^^ orininally from thin lizzy ;)

  • @madfortrad5958 And Thin Lizzy made the rock cover famous before metallica.

  • @madfortrad5958

This is old drinking song made in XVII century actually

  • @madfortrad5958 and @MetallicAyManowaR Actually, it originated in the 17th and 18th centuries and it may have been the inspiration for "The Beggar's Opera", which is, incidentally, the play that gave us the origin of the song "Mack the Knife."

  • @MetallicAyManowaR Actually this is a pub song, not a celtic song at all

  • @Freyja1133 Same thing. :P

  • @MetallicAyManowaR The song is a centuries old traditional song. See the wikipedia article. After the Dubliners brought it to international attention, Thin Lizzy made a version of it, which Metallica covered.

  • @MetallicAyManowaR Not an original song of the High Kings, quite an old Irish Song, dates back many years, there are many many covers :)

  • @MetallicAyManowaR

No it's an irish traditional song, and the origin is unknown. :) High Kings covered it from the Thin Lizzy version. Listen it that is very good too :)

  • @erikabenko thank you but is too late... I discovered the cover by Thin Lizzy 3 months ago!!!! But thank you : )

  • @MetallicAyManowaR it is an old folk song and has been around for a long time before it was done by metallica or the high kings

  • @MetallicAyManowaR It's from the 1700s, bro

  • @CaptainHavick thanks, man

  • @MetallicAyManowaR

*shakes head* No dear...its an irish folk song...

  • @MetallicAyManowaR Specifically, they covered Thin Lizzy (from Dublin), but the song is an Irish traditional folk song

  • @MetallicAyManowaR The version Metallica did was a cover of one recorded by Ireland's own Thin Lizzy in the 1970s, but the first known recordings were Seamus Ennis (1951) and Burl Ives (1952). However, it is rumored that the song actually originated in the 1600s and was popular before and during the American Revolution.

  • @MetallicAyManowaR no its an irish classic

  • great group-they do this song well slan, Jim

  • Watch their faces - the joy they are having stands out all over! Darren in particular looks like he's about to burst into laughter from 0:36 - 0:38.

  • I saw them when the performed this song at the ICC in Canton, MA and they were AMAZING! EVERYONE was up singing along and clapping. It was great.

  • Celtic Thunder didn't want to be The High Kings and the High Kings didn't want to be CT. They sing different stuff have different styles and achieve different things with it. I think both shouldn't be compared, and both should be only enjoyed.

    I love both.

  • @MissSunFlower94

That was the most reasonable thing you could say. Thumbs up!

And yes, me too love them both :)

  • @MissSunFlower94 I agree. This is a great version also. Every group should be enjoyed for their uniqueness.

  • @MissSunFlower94 i've only listened to the high kings so i cant criticize CT but neither should be compared to the other or else arguements will break out with some saying their band is better. Why cant we all get along with each other?

  • @MissSunFlower94 Sums the High Kings appeal up really......Celtic thunder???

  • Brilliant band but i think here only one of them is playing, the rest are faking, as in many of their videos.

  • I love the High Kings! Cant wait for their new cd to make it to the united states!

  • The High Kings are the best Band on world. I love there music, they have great voices

  • One of the things I love about The High Kings is the pure joy with which they sing! This is a great song and a great video. If you want a false sounding commercial phenomenon check out Cetlic Thunder. The High Kings are great!

  • @tallwoman76 I think the guys in Celtic Thunder have awesome voices and while I wish they sang more actual Irish stuff, I think they sing very well. The High Kings are marvelous and I love listening to them sing, but I wish you wouldn't put down one group in the praise of another.

  • @DonataII I was merely defending The High Kings from an earlier poster who said they were false and commercial. I admit I wrote my reply in the heat of the moment. I have nothing against the talent of Celtic Thunder. They do have wonderful voices, but it does come across to me as definitely more commercial and much less authentically Celtic.

  • They sound so false to me. A group whitout a real soul,a commercial phenomenon. They don't have the raw power and the sincerity of The Dubliners, nor the pure genius of Shane McGowan and the Pogues, nor the technical ability, the simpaty, the brilliance and the humanity of Planxty.

  • that was brillant, i luv the high kings

  • Great song. I find irish and Newfoundland music so similar. Luv it!!!!

  • One of the great songs in this world as far as I concerned!!! Great video!

  • Is that a 6-string banjo?

  • Darren is absolutely sexy out! That feckin smile every time
