  • a door to be balanced properly? three things. right size drums, right size springs and right length of the cables. in this case its probly the springs. find out the weight of the door, tell the manufacturer what is goin on, theyl probly send you diff spring or drums

  • make it elteric

  • How can you tell, OldDog?

  • The door is heavy to lift at the bottom and balanced midway and then hard to pull down when open.

    or

The horizontal tracks are not level and running down hill at the back end.

  • I think the horizontal tracks are very close to level. But, you're right, door is heavy at bottom, balanced midway, and hard to pull down. I thought that the cone shaped cable reel would make for smooth force all the way. Some resistance comes from weather stripping at the jambs. They are the springs that were made for the door, right from the manufacturer (Overhead door). Maybe I should take a quarter turn out of them.

  • Well some one goofed!

I have installed sectional doors since the early 70's, I use to sell Clopay doors and about a 1/4 of the doors were shipped with the wrong springs. And it still happens today. Springs need to be with in 10lbs. of door wt. for good balanceing.

Is that door 7' tall in the video? If so, the springs need to be wound to about 7.4 to 7.7 turns. And from the video It look like you were pretty close.

If you want to balance that door Ill tell U how. BUT U WONT LIKE IT!

  • That garage door has the wrong springs

  • Oh jeeze. Yeah, those springs were spec'd at 7-5/8 turns. Maybe the mfr. misjudged the glass weight (which is most of the weight). Okay. How do I balance that door?
