Interestingly enough, they all appear in just about the exact same fashion. So if it's a missile failure, it must be designed to be so, else I would think that the probability of accidental recurrences of seemingly the exact same failure in numerous missile tests would be... within the realm of coincidence theory?

But to cite one video from the 60s, in order to quickly explain away something that many don't think looks like a missile, amidst an apparent rash of these 'missile failures', to me seems ludicrous. If you recall, the first thing I did was mention that the russians kept pics from another failed test that clearly shows how the spiral forms (it spins in a circle). The point about the nasa video was that this event happens with loads of other missles, and can be seen since we have, you know, started building large missles.

I highly doubt that's a missile, but I could be wrong. The video shows a missile failing, but in that case, the smoke emitted from the tail would have gone all over the place. Even so, even if it created a perfect spiral, the smoke would have faded away, but in the spiral video's case, the "swirl" did not fade at all. And, this is a question because I'm not sure myself, but does missile fuel burn blue? I don't know.

Even if it's in outer space it's either gonna explode or just keep floating away, even after it runs out of fuel. Which in that case it again, would not have expanded and contracted as such. :P for people to think this was Ex-Earth they would have to miss the very obvious contrail heading to the centre of the spiral. Atmospheric persistence can last into the hours too. It is a very nice 'spirograph' accident, and probably reproducible if given some fore planning to intentionally create the effect. Would be nice to see done at an air show instead of fireworks.
