the new bsg was definitely something but for me it didnt even come close to this ... after the shadow war was fought it dropped a little but most series have this thing where they just dont know when to quit, usually after season 3 inspiration seems to get thin
@antiprozacnation I agree, season 4 finished off the story arch with earth though, season 5 well..... i could not give a shit for the runaway telepathic peeps. I hate what they did with Garibaldi. They could have stretched the conflict with earth though.
Would anyone be game for a remake of B5? Rather like the excellent treatment Battlestar Galactica received? Personally, as long as the same entertaining stories were created, I would not mind more B5!
@notablegoat There's a difference, Battlestar Gallactic was remade because there was a better place to take it (even if I personally didn't like it), B5 is already what it was meant to be and the odds of any show, even a remake, being able to reach the quality of the original is doubtfull. They couldn't even get a sequel series going without so much executive meddling the shows crash and burn.
@timemonkey Now that I think about it, maybe a continuation would be in order? Like new Doctor Who and Star Trek Next Generation? Both are excellent shows, and I think B5 has many more stories to be told! Maybe with different characters, but as long as the core of the show remains the same, I'd watch it!
@notablegoat It's been attempted many times to continue the B5 story, and with the hints to future events, and the books that cover some, the B5 definately has many stories that would be much more interesting to watch than anything Galactica had. That isn't a shot at BSG, that too was a good series.
Problem is, as timemonkey said, executives would just try to change too many things. Hell just look at what happened to the proposed shadow movie.
@notablegoat I'd like a new series, set in the B5 universe, but I really don't think it needs remaking. There was of course two attempts at SPin-Offs; Crusade which only lasted one season and Legend of the Rangers, which only had a pilot movie and really wasn't very good
@weldonwin I'd love a new series too. I don't think a remake would be necessary at all. The CGI may not always be fantastic, especially season 1, but overall the series has an art style which doesn't really feel like it goes out of style. It works, and works as it is.
@weldonwin I actually like The Crusade from what i understand the network wanted too much control over the show for example the uniform change was one the network wanted more of a star trek feel i guess. Michael Straczynski said fuck you to the network from their meddling and canceled the show. Too bad The Crusade had real promise to continue the franchise. Legend of the Rangers was complete ass i could go on forever bitching about ever aspect of that show but ya.. i wont lol.
@Baseshocks Legend of the Rangers had a lot of good ideas, but which didn't work out. Like the ship's fire control system involved having the gunner go down into a holographic chamber and firing the ship's weapons by punching and kicking at the enemy, basically doing kung-fu in space. Unfortunately, the actual effect just made them look like they were having a spaz-attack in zero-G
Delenn's "If you value your lives, be somewhere else" was the greatest line in television sci-fi until Rosilin's "I'm coming for all of you! I swear it!"
Delenn was a masterful diplomat, coming into a fight with a significant amount of combat power against foes who knew that they could not match her force's capabilities, or even get weapons lock on them.
As a diplomat, she offered the survivable alternative of immediate withdrawal or practically certain destruction. Regardless of whether the Earth captains were flunkies of Clarke or not, they made the smart decision to retreat, possibly to act again in the future.
"Only one Human Captain has ever survived battle with our fleet. He is behind me... you are in front of me... If you value your lives, be somewhere else!"
Actually, the full line is as follows: "Why not? Only one human captain has ever survived battle with a Minbari fleet--he is behind me. You are in front of me. If you value your lives, be somewhere else."
@tacoma171 i doubt a full series will ever be made again of B5, the actors are too old and some have passed away... The Crusade was a pretty good spinoff but straczynski refused to bow to the network wanting to take control of his creation so he ended it.
I would like to see a movie or miniseries though, maybe about the dilgar war or the Phycorp war.
i'd like to think that the churchill and the alexander engaged the agrippa and roanoke while babylon 5 took care of the hyperion/midwinter class ships which was why they were missing from combat. or maybe the churchill did it which was why she was on fire.
@williamskidfears True enough. Its just that a good captain (Sheridan, Sinclair, or hell, James Kirk) would have at least paused for a minute to consider their options before running away like a scared rabbit.
@Conner3030 Having thought about it a bit, I guess the ships were under orders to take the station quickly, but to avoid confrontations with the alien races at all costs.
@pandaphil It goes back to the B5 movie Humans were getting thier butts kicked in the war no true victory unless they ran thier ships into the Mimbari ships. Sheridan was the only Captain to have the only true victory for the Humans. So with odds like that 1st choice is to run. then think how to regroup.
A great battle scene and Delenn pissed off!! That is one Minbari that I would not want on the other side of the battle from me!!! Thanx for sharing :D
