As we look at the physical Babylons of the bible, we see that not only is it a system of false religion, but a govnt system that enslaves the people of God. Babylon herself has mixed with modern christianity, but is not herself modern Christianity. I wrote a paper on the subject, but it wont let me post the link. Im very impressed by what you wrote

I see throughout scripture, old and new testaments, that Babylon is a symbolic word for His people that rebel against Him and commit spiritual adultery. His people, who are called by His name are called to come "out of her" or they will share in her punishment.

@slimmeans I am sure you have heard it said in the scriptures that Jerusalem is the mother of us all (christians) (Gal 4:26). If that once faithful city is now filled with those who commit spiritual adultery (harlotry), what does she become? The mother of harlots, hence Babylon (Rev. 17:5). See Hosea ch.4. Remember we must put what the prophets spoke with what the apostles taught (2Peter 3:1-4). The prophets were foretelling the great falling away that would happen in last days.
