The .556 is not a pussy round. Its high velocity and light bullet create a tumbling effect inside the body doing massive internal damage to organs and other tissue.
Ha!,... When did you last see a body with a 5.56 wound. I must admit that it's a long time for me, but one thing I do know is that the propaganda about "base upsetting" projectiles is a lot of cods wallop.
Damned "kiddie calibre"
And the clown demonstrating it still flinched when the firearm had a stoppage. He'd probably faint if he had a decent calibre. Bloody mob of queens.
He was certainly snatching the trigger like there was no tomorrow, although if you look down range, his grouping for the single shots was pretty good, better than I could do with that clumsy looking lump of ironmongery with no stock.
they aren't a bad, if really big, pistol. I had a while back, thinking of getting another. more accurate than what was shown in this video clip, reliable, and very noisy!
It's still gonna make noise with the supressor/silencer on it. It just kinda dampens it so you don't know exactlly where the shot came from. Theres a few videos on here explaining what I am trying to say.
The first few shots were subsonic and the rest were normal rounds. As in his more info section "KelTec PLR16 .223 shooting Extreme Shock 127gr ASP Full-cycling subsonic ammo VS. Full power ammo"
If you could . I would like to know what sight setup you had on that PLR and how did it or does it work for you ? I would also like to here from other PLR owners as to what sight setup they would endorse other then iron sights . Thanks to you and all for your insight .
I'm lookin at getting a barska mutli reticle holo sight for optics, MAYBE SBR stamp for a short wire stock, I have a bunch of tapco mags that work well in my PLR so I'll probably stick with those, I like the idea of a suppressor cuz it's so dang loud, everyone at the range comes over and wants to check it out haha.
Picked one up bout 5 months ago, jammed like crazy til I stripped, cleaned and smothered it with rem oil, functioned FLAWLESSLY afterwards though, my GOD it's a fun pistol. Loud as all freakin get out.
Full-cycling subsonic rounds doesnt mean its fully automatic. You see, normal subsonic rounds require you to pull back the bolt to eject it everytime, so he meant that you didnt have to cock back the bolt everytime, not that you can fire fully automatic.
To punishr, I have no experience with anything Kel Tec but I assume that the jam was a result of the sub-sonic ammo, even if it does claim "full cycling."
Legally, it's a pistol because it doesn't have a butt stock. Functionally, it's a lot like a carbine. Put a shoulder sling on it and it's still not quite as accurate as a rifle, but it's more accurate than most pistols that are shot from an unsupported standing position. Off the bench, a PLR-16 shoots 1-2 MOA (1-2 inch groups at 100 yards), which is pretty darn cool. In many ways, from the shooter's perspective, it can be a pistol or a rifle, depending on the application.
It was because of the sub-sonic ammo, which usually doesn't have enough kick to cycle in the other round, even though his box stated otherwise.
I am not sure how the PLR-16 functions, but if it is like a standard AR-15, then it will need to be cleaned often to avoid jams. If you really don't want to jam, just get an AK-47, but you will lose some long range accuracy after 200 yards.
For what it's worth, It took 300 rounds though mine to get it dirty enough to malfunction. When that happened, the bolt did not 'slam' home and of course the weapon did not fire. I sprayed some gun lube into the bottom of the closed bolt, worked it a bit, and it was restored to operation after which 60 more rounds were fired. I cleaned it right after that. I hope this provides a useful datapoint.
Nice demonstration of subsonic/full speed ammo in the same video. All the PL-16 vidoes I've seen seem to show difficulty controlling rapid fire. Maybe a tensioned chest sling, ala MP5k, would help. Bet that and a fore-end grip would give stock-like stability at close range. Would your suppressor add enough barrel length, along with a (folding) stock, to qualify as an assault rifle?
If you put a for-end grip on it would no longer qualify as a pistol and would become an AOW(Any Other Weapon)which you'd have to pay another tax stamp on and go through all the paperwork again.
On the bright side though, if i remember correctly, AOW tax stamps are only $5 as opposed to the $200 tax stamp for everything else.
check out my Saiga AK video. nothing jambs untill you video yourself shooting lol. Anyway, I tried one of those things out and they are sort of awkward for a pistol. It actually beats my Tec9 for awkwardness.
Actually, barrel length under 16" PLUS designed with no shoulder stock = pistol.
That last part's important; barrel under 16" WITH a shoulder stock = an SBR (short barreled rifle) subject to registration and taxation requirements under the National Firearms Act (in America). Without proper paperwork it's a felony.
But the PLR-16 is considered just a plain old handgun under current federal law. No special paperwork beyond an ordinary Form 4473 / NICS check at the gun shop.
it was the ammo that caused that jam. I'm thinking of slicking up the feed ramp and not spend the X-tra $400.00 on the ugly C15. I like the "gas piston" esp. when shooting suppressed. C15 are hard to carry concealed with the poll sticking out the back.
jamomatic??? it jammed once with subsonic ammo, U moron! an AR15 gas system worx fine, I've had over 2,000 rounds through mine wit no jams, and 1,400 or so of that wuz without cleaning it!
@Slicksta55 ever seen a carbon 15 explode? i have.....the plr-16 has a piston in it, which makes it much better than the carbon 15 with the short gas tube.
@Slicksta55 ever seen a carbon 15 explode? i have.....the plr-16 has a piston in it, which makes it much better than the carbon 15 with the short gas tube.
It was the ammo. The cycling sub-sonic rounds had the bullets seated out just a little far out for the rifling in the PLR-16. I seated them .003" deeper so the bolt would completly lock forward in battery. That particular round was not quite seated deep enough and bullet ogive hit rifling too soon not letting the bolt completly close. Long story short, my fault, not the PLR-16:)
Ah, that makes a little more sense. If that was the only ammo you could find that you could get to cycle, then it would be worth the small amount of extra effort.
That's why I videoed it:) That was it, no more. So I wanted something to remember it by. It's made for an AR-15 which probably woulda worked fine in. The PLR probably has it's rifling a little closer in.
I agree. BUT, being the ONLY "cycling" sub-sonic round availible, I had no problem seating the bullet a little deeper to make sure they functioned. Took all of 3min to do. They are EXPENSIVE, so, I wanted them to work. They were "cool" but not for the price.
it was the ammo. The 169gr bullets were seated a little too far out for the chamber. So I seated them in just a little. That particuar bullet fell back in case. ONLY malfunction EVER.
Those extreme shocks are pretty pricey, but if what they claim on there website is true, then I guess they are worth it. Personally I would never pay upwards of 5$ per round for those bullets. But then again I have never used them.
One reason is I was shooting in a "valley" kinda, it echoed a lot. There is still noise from the reciever cycling and bullet impact, I'll post another video of regular subsonics that don't cycle for you guys to watch. They are a lot quieter.
The forearm is VERY solid. It doesn't wobble and only comes off when you want it to. I have a vertical grip on mine and have shot it plenty with no problems. I've never had a single jam after MANY rounds. It's my favorite semi auto of all time now.
If you mount a vertical grip, you are "creating" a AOW (any other weapon),Which would require the $200.00 tax (which would have to be done by a class 3 dealer WITH a SOT. THEN transferred to you, for $5.00. But yes, it would accept a vertical grip. No jamming AT ALL BTW:)
so you like the PLR-16? I have seriously thought about buying one but I'm not sure about the factory forearm grip. In the photos it just doesn't look too secure. Is your forarm grip from Kel-Tec or did you find another company to buy it from?
I love the PLR-16! Now I leave my AR-15 at home. I am buying the same TAC-16 suppressor. I have paid all the money and sent in the paperwork. Now just waiting to get it back from the BATFE so I can take it home. Can't wait to try it out myself!

so you like the PLR-16? I have seriously thought about buying one but I'm not sure about the factory forearm grip. In the photos it just doesn't look too secure. Is your forarm grip from Kel-Tec or did you find another company to buy it from?

I love the PLR-16! Now I leave my AR-15 at home. I am buying the same TAC-16 suppressor. I have paid all the money and sent in the paperwork. Now just waiting to get it back from the BATFE so I can take it home. Can't wait to try it out myself!
