@ilania95 Mr. Plimpton was a "participatory sports writer," that is, he actually played the sports he wrote about in Sports Illustrated and in books: football, baseball, boxing, etc. Usually just briefly in exhibition games, but he trained with the real athletes. Since Intellivision initially emphasized their sports games, they hired a spokesman with first-hand knowledge of a number of sports. Mr. Plimpton died in 2003.
I think it was a good thing because E.T. for Atari sucked!! But I agree....to have Elliott from E.T. and not even have a game for Intellivision is pretty funny
Every system came with a free game. Colecovision had Donkey Kong, the 2600 had Combat, and the 5200 had breakout (which was later changed to Pac-man.) Intellivision always came with poker/blackjack, and that is by no means a justification for its high price tag.
There was an Atari system on top of the TV in Elliot's ET house. That was why I didn't believe my sister telling me that was Henry (Elliot) Thomas at the time.
night stalker was legendary.

Henry Thomas had the leading role in one movie (ever) and they act like he was a household name, lol, ET was the real star not him.

BUT WHAT DID GEORGE PLIMPTON DO IN HIS LIFE?
AND IS HE STILL ALIVE?
(I don't know because I live in Europe and I was born in 1995)
But how was the gameplay in "Night Stalker"?

No Way! Night Stalker was an intense game for its time. If Intellivision had more innovative games like NS, it would have sold more units.

As a kid, I had no idea who George Plimpton was, but to me he made the Intellivision seem like the system of choice for stuck-up assholes ;-)

That's exactly what I thought too. Muffy, Buffy, Winthrop, and Rutherford all sit there with their pinkies up as they watch the butler play for them.

You hit the hammer right on the nail. Why didn't they cast someone popular at the time like Gary Coleman or David Hasselhoff?
Even if they had the licensing power like Atari did way back in the day, Intellivision was still too expensive.
Skylinesandsunsets 3 years ago
Well, they did have pack-in games with Intellivision, so that's part of the cost.

Oh yeah, but only the Odyssey 2 and Intellvision didn't require additional controllers.
Atari and Coleco systems were priced somewhat lower, but then they would have all these add-ons just to play a game, lolz.
adog262 2 years ago
Intellivision's strong point was their array of sports programs, here they are trying to shake the image that that is all they had.

kind of ironic that the kid from ET even jumped atari's ship and started advertising the intellivision.

And he was also in a movie called Cloak & Dagger that featured an Atari 5200 cart that had secret fighter plans.
