when I put my ps3 on, I don't see a windows media player icon, in fact I don't see anything only: 'search for media servers).

Can anyone help me out here?

My roommate owns the router we use. When I try to change my Media Settings, I get the message "Sharing is disabled to protect your privacy. If you consider this to be a private network, change network settings." Can't you still do this and still keep your network private?

not support HD resolution.

Window 7 can do the same thing and the

configuration is a bit simpler, but I think

you must have at least Home Premier

version to use this feature.

I had this working for a few months and my hard drive chrashed. Obviously, I lost everything. Now I cant turn on media sharing. When I hit "Change" under media sharing, nothing happens. No menu opens up, just the original menu from Windows Media player that led me to this menu. WTF?

When I first got my laptop, it worked lke a charm for about 2 months, then one day just stopped. Every now and again it pops up again for about a day. Then I totally wiped my computer clean and start fresh, and it worked again for a month and stopped again. Don't know if it s a windows problem, router problem or what. I've tried everything and nothing seems to work. So now I just put stuff on a memory stick and put it in the usb port of the ps3.

I hate windows vista with all my heart! I did all that your tutorial said and still I am not able to share my media on my xbox360 I know this is for ps3 but the settings are the same on windows vista... oh my god I really hate vista... who the hell came up with this? bunch of crap.

i dont own an xbox, but i had media center on XP, as did my friend for his vista OS. I was able to connect my friends vista computer and his xbox through that program. have you tried that yet?

Yes I have tried with media center and I don't like it because it doesn't play everything. TVersity plays more than media center does... But I've fixed my problem. It turns out it was another program "utorrent" messing with it, it wasn't utorrent itself it was the settings on it and this only happens when I run windows vista and not xp.. I have windows 7 now and that shit rocks... I love it.. windows vista still sucks bunch of crap. but thanks for commenting.

Mine works but some movies say file is corrupted, even though they play fine on Windows. Have you seen that issue?

Make sure your network is working perfectly. In my case I connected my PS3 with my wireless router with WiFi, and my computer is connected with network cable. It should work if they are on the same network.

I can only share Vista's public folder with this method. Whenever I add files to WMP from my external HD, they do not show up on the PS3. Do you know how to allow PS3 to see my external hd?

I found that not all USB storage device can work with PS3. To make things more complicated, not all model of PS3 would work with certain USB device. I do have one external HDD that works perfectly with my PS3 60Gb, but not with another PS3 40Gb. Please don't forget you have to format it with FAT32. On another hand, most solid state USB drives do not work with PS3.

Every FAT32 hard drive and flash drive I have ever tried to play directly from the PS3 has worked without a hitch. The problem is networking an external drive so that it works through vista's DLNA. There is a solution available though - you have to change the registry in vista to enable remote sharing.

Hmm, I don't think so. However, you can try to install other 3rd party uPnP server in your windows professional. It should work.

how do you mean checked my acces?.....what i want it switched on for is so i can trasfer files from my laptop to xbox360, xbox is set up and all i need to do it switch on media sharing on...so i go to windows media click libary and then to media sharing and then click switch on so its now on i should think , ...and then check it has come on by going to network and sharing centre.. and then it says media sharing switched off :S
