I disagree! I am ABSOLUTELY against the health care plan, not because I am selfish, but because the government has proven that IT cannot do the job correctly. The government wastes 75% of what it takes in in taxes, etc., in the bureaucracy they feel is necessary to get money where they think it should go. Only 25% is used productively. That is criminal. P.S. - We have a GREAT cautionary tale when it comes to how the government manages healthcare: the VA system for veterans, which sucks!

Ask any veteran who has to deal with the overloaded system. Furthermore, you might have COVERAGE under the system, but people are far less responsible when they think something is free, and they will flood the doctors' offices... People in countries with socialized medicine DIE ON WAITING LISTS for conditions with very low mortality rates in the US. I worked for a retail pharmacy for 5 years, and saw this trend on a regular basis.

Plus... the government will decide what is "elective" and not... Private insurance won't be an option, either. Federal intrusion will kill it.

When it's free, you don't weight whether or not something merits a doc visit... "Hey, it's free, let's just go in..." I saw many customers who would come in EVERY THREE TO FOUR DAYS, 'cause it didn't cost them anything. This makes it so that many who need care can't get it. Who cares if you have coverage, if you can't get in to a doctor to use it.
