i love my focus! the roof bends in this but it was nowhere near enough to smash in the test dummys head so for me thats a pass! check out the crash test vid for the ford escort 1999 model which was manufactured at the same time the focus came out to replace it! the same crash in an escort would probably have resulted in a fatality!
I had a front impact in the 2005 ZX3 version recently. I was quite impressed with how well it held up. I only had a foot injury. The safety features on this car performed well.
The only reason this car did well in crash testing for an American company is due to the fact that it was engineered in Europe. Europeans use this size of car as a family car much more than North Americans.
Study the 1995-2005 Cavalier/Sunfire if you want to see a case of really poor crash standards - minimally modify a late '70s front wheel drive compact car = 1995 Cavalier/Sunfire.
I crashed an '03 focus a few years ago- some idiot pulled out right in front of me- I was going about 50 mph- my two passengers and myself walked away, just shaken up a bit. The other driver, in an accord, got a broken hip. I got another focus, after all, it kept me out of the hospital :)

focus fact: the chassis on the 2000 through 2007 focuses are all the same.

it is a nice car, but if you got it in stick-shift, its got the worst traction ever.
