  • thumbs up if you got a ride here from two dope boyz in a cadillac

  • One of the most sensuous, beautiful songs. This is sexy and soulful!

  • I think they Stairsteps and the Sylvers could sing past the Jacksons; but they didn't have quite the adorable child and the bubble gum angle + the stong Motown machine...

  • Hey baby, could ya maybe, have some love for me......GOOD SHIT!!!

  • watch?v=T8DoKKexXSE Lord Kossity & Kool Shen & Zoxea & Salif - J'En Pose 1 Pour Le IV (Remix) - sampled this nice track!

  • Pure dynamite.

  • Reminds me of the olds back in philly at the uptown theater

  • ...4 people didn't take heed to the warning.

  • how can this music be so good and music today be so bad?????

  • i wonder how the sister of that group look now, She was very pretty

  • I'm so glad that I had the pleasure to see the five stairsteps in person several times at Newark's RKO back in the day. The singing, the dance routines. My Pleasure for sure!!!

  • The Stairsteps bring back memories for me.. The Jackson Five Ecliped them.. they no doubt had better voices.. but the jacksons had something they didn't have.. they had Barry Gordy and the Monster Hit maker Motown.. Marketing was the difference.. Image is everything even still today.

  • World of fantacy, just come back, you waited to long..these dudes had the love songs that made u forget homework and everything.I remember playing their album on low and rapping"that's when u talked to a girl"on the phone until my moms would bust me about12:30 at night. The bluelight party's grinding so hard. DAMN!!' miss dem days. Thx for the post&the memories.St.Louis OG!!

  • Bad ass song , thank you for posting this wonderful song.

  • Hey baby, could ya maybe......still love this song! The harmonizing at the end is killin' em!

  • Vocally "The Five Stairsteps" Are Better Than The Jackson 5 !!! There Is No Comparison .... Only Surpasses Them As A Solo Act Because Of His Stage Presence !!!

  • I wonder who wrote the great arrangment for this song....???

  • I heard this on XM radio yesterday and loved it. Glad I found it.

  • @blueveins1000 That's the same way I found this song too! lol

  • By right, The Stairstep should have gotten just as much attention as the Osmonds. They were a talented family and young Clarence Burke, Jr. wrote many of their songs. The Burke family remain unchanged, talented, friendly and approachable!

  • Danger she's a stranger has been one of my favoriates for over 30 years... I was a 10 year old listening to WDAS in PHILLY in the 80s listening to the quiet storm..... I am so happy to hear it and have it as a download on my IPOD>

  • WOOOOW IS ALL I CAN SAY... BEAUTIFUL

  • I LOVE THIS !!!!!!!!!

  • IT'S JUST 2 DOPE BOYS IN A CADILLAC !! lol ...

  • the original samp is from a record called cut back, recorded in chicago, by zacharia kokoul, aka mr. hammy light. that was the scene. the time. a time when a man and a woman would have sex inspite war. wtf am i talkin about....

  • 2 dope boys in a cadilLAC

  • a need this song can u make a link in the description for download?

  • T D B I A C

  • No one know dusties like CHICAGO---Five Stair Steps!!!

  • Wu Syndicate - Golden Sands / Young Brothers sample

  • damn thats errie to hear the official version....wish i would have hopped on that back in 96 before they did...lol

  • Outkast sampled this on the ATLiens Album!! This song is bangin!

"It's just two dope boys in a cadillac!"

  • youtube.com/watch?v=gbF55QB5qFI sampled for this song !amazing!

  • goose bumps. on a 90 degree day. amazing.

  • This song will forever remind me of my love Victor Macedo. I love you baby. Cant live without you.

  • Oh man, Wu-Syndicate - Young Brothas is too sampled this trax, I love that trax

  • DOPE MOB !!!!!!

  • this that shhhiiiit !

  • Wow!! What a great track!! Thanks for posting x

  • also can hear the rulers back by jay-z at the very start of this

  • Outkast sampled this. but nothing beats the original...

  • More blacks really should be family oriented.anyone agree??

  • @Lightner445555555555 Most of us are, but just like anything else the bad always overshadows the good in some minds. With that being said I hope for your sake you practice what you preach. It is the closeness and feeling that we all share that makes these beautiful soulful sounds.

  • Does someone have sour grapes? There's an awful lot of negativity about the Stairsteps from one Free person....really sounds personal...things that make you go hmmmmm....

  • Jerome Brailey on the album cover wow.

  • fly09 i was thinking the same thing

  • i remember this song from when i was a kid, back in the day. i tell ya, it just makes me close my eyes and wave my hands, because this is when music was music. this is when fellas knew how to romance a woman, how to talk to her, etc.

i remember being in grade school when this was out and dancing with "the pretty girls in class" to it. wow, what memories!

  • For some reason this soooo sounds like Smokey could've written and sang this song.. almost like they were trying to sound like dude. I love it tho..

  • @flyingshrapnel09 they sound nothing like Smokey and didnt try to sound like Smokey..This is the Chic town sound..Smokey had the Detroit Motown Sound..This is pure Chic town..sad so sad bad management Killed this group..also not a good move for your parents to join the act(their dad joined)..they lacked the stage showmanship of the J5 who were as sharp as dancers and played instruments..something the five stairsteps didnt do until much later.

  • @blkshepherd The vocalization is very Smokey/Dion Jackson...the music is very CHITOWN Curtis Mayfield. I think the person was just mentioning the influence that Smokey may have had on these youngsters at the time.

  • I've had the 45 for years but never heard the stereo version. Nice!

  • I feel in total this group was better than the Jacksons who grew up only 23 miles from where this group was from. Gary to Chi-town.

  • Better then the Jacksons.....?? Hell no...

  • @freein2339 , Son listen to the five part harmony, they are better singers than the Jacksons, though without a doubt there is no one in the steps who could touch Mike. but hey I entittled to my opinion just like you. Peace!!

  • @bmwstan OK at first I said WTF then when I read the part about Michael Jackson I said I'm feeling that!!

  • @bmwstan Of course the harmony is outstanding. But to say it's BETTER than the Jacksons - no son - can't agree. I'd say it's just as good. The Jacksons had awesome harmony - A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!! Maybe you need to re-listen: Sugar Daddy, Dancing Machine, A-B-C-, hell, I Want You Back. The Jacksons put it down on the harmony. They were not playing.

  • @CheckMate657879 your sooo right these people are just caught up in the moment the J5were tops no doubt im mean the 5 stairsteps are great but the J5 man who could compare? none is the answer. ohh how everyone overlooks JERMAINE JACKSONS contributions.

  • @CheckMate657879 your sooo right these people are just caught up in the moment the J5were tops no doubt im mean the 5 stairsteps are great but the J5 man who could compare? none is the answer. ohh how everyone overlooks JERMAINE JACKSONS contributions.

  • @bmwstan

yes, so true because when J5 started they only had 3 people that could actually put it down. Marlon and Tito were weak. They got better with time as 5 part vocalists.

  • @bmwstan well said . Curtis Mayfield knew what he had.

  • @bmwstan Jackson 5 had Berry Gordy and Motown marketing machine. They had a hold on black radio stations that Mayfield and the Stax record label did not.

  • I've been listening to five part harmony before you were born son...The Jacksons had TWO lead singers and they didn't have a weak singer like Kenni ( at the time, over the years he developed into a fine studio singer and musician) singing lead...Plus the Jacksons "played instruments" on stage ...something the Stairsteps copied later...Now don't get me wrong the Stairsteps were a very talented group but to say they were better then the Jackson 5 is very short sighted...

  • My favourite track by the soul legends!!!!

  • Mine too....!!!

  • The whole song is fantastic but the intro is simply out of this world.

  • Listen to the backup singers 1:07-1:14 and especially 2:00 - 2:17.

  • nice!

  • One of the most melodic and gorgeous brother sister groups in history. Ooh Chile put them on the musical map although they were young veterans in music. I saw them a couple of times. What a beautiful entrancing group!

  • one the best of the fivestairs steps, i bought, this song and you waited to long peace

  • This is a CLASSIC for ALL TIME! I love it.

  • Thank you for the info. I had the chance to see them at the Paramount theatre after OOh child came out and Dad was with them, this was in Newark,NJ

  • i was there too !!

  • That's where this group blew it, by featuring their their Dad on stage. Who wants to see an old man performing with his kids? Even Joe distanced himself from his kids (Jacksons) when it came to performing.

  • Amazing!

  • and the rest is history...

  • at 2:21, I love it when all the voices blend in towards the ending-

  • THIS SONG just absolutely blows me away - it peaked at #89 in Feburary of 1967-

  • Comment removed

  • subtle i think

  • I remember these kids back when, it was unfortunate for them that the Jackson 5 hit the scene and bumbed them out of the spot light.. I loved them then and still do,, what are they doing now??? it would be nice to get an update..if anyone can help..

  • Love this.

  • this soul ballad is the shiz-nit!!

  • I came to check them out on here, because Michael mentioned them in his Moonwalk book, and said they didn't stick together because they didn't have a close family unit like him and his brothers.

  • The Stairsteps had a very very close family unit... they made many many hits before growing individually as well as musically. They Stairsteps evolved into The Invisible Man Band, Kenny or Keni Burke had a very successful solo career, Aloha retired from the music scene opting to stay closer to home and concentrate on family. They are one family that you never hear anything about because they have alway been a very private family... love them

  • Oh wow, thank u for that information. :)

  • This is a dope ass song!

  • Can anyone tell me even one song made with this kind of soul in the last decade?

  • @ChillMB none and never will

  • Were they Motown?

  • No, they recorded for Curtis Mayfield's labels Windy City and Curtom and later recorded for Buddah Records. I heard they were offered a contract from Motown but Clarence "Papa Stairsteps" Burke, Sr. rejected the offer.

  • I went to the Regal Theatre in1968 thinking I'd see the Five Stairsteps. Instead I experienced the Jackson Five. Let me tell you this, I was disappointed because I loved the Five Stairsteps and always felt that the Jackson five actually patterned themselves off of our Chicago group. Loved them then and love the Stairsteps now and forever. Justice if possible but peace at any rate.

  • i heard they used to beat the J-5 at the Regal shows

  • Great sample in 2 Dope Boyz!

  • 2 dope boys in a cadillac

  • i love them the best teen group ever . herman clark. herman burkes son.

  • @chicagodog69 Whenever I say in total they were better singers than the Jacksons minus Mike I get dogged. but they are without a doubt the most overlooked teenage group ever

  • my cousins from my father herman burke.

  • What's up with the group nowadays..?? Since there's such a void in creative, original , real music are they planning a reunion tour....and if not...why not..???

  • Keni's on FB.

  • Curtis Mayfield started this group out.Thru Windy City Records/Curtom/Apoa

  • Smooth harmonies. Nuanced lyrics made even more sexy by the lead singer's outstanding voice complemented by the smooth harmony background. Could listen to this forever.

  • does anyone know what became of them?

  • Clarence Burke is going out as a solo artist and the rest will join him on tour. They have been behind the scenes for 15 years. Check out Keni Burke on YouTube in a remake of "Stay Close To Me". They may be coming to a city near you

  • Aliens a billion years from now will find this amongst our bleached remains and say 'My god, these were some bad motherfuckers'.

  • They should have gone a lot further as they were more talented than most !

I wish they could get back together ! !

  • They should have been the new "Miracles"...after some great records, their music took a strange turn...too bad they were very talented smooth!

  • Wow.

  • I love, love, LOVE the ending of this song where they are all "oooohing" in harmony - OUTTA SIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • DAYUM, The SH*T!!!

  • their harmony is sick. Clarence Rocks!!!!

  • IT IS THAT DEAL

  • above-average good.

  • i love this song. it was recently, heard in a nightclub. i couldn't figure out why it was so familiar. now i know. thanx!

  • I have a tape of them performing this song on To Tell The Truth. Their father was also on that show. Unfortunately, I forget which number he was.

  • Can you post the tape..please/? I saw that episode too!

"Danger....she's a Stranger" is the name of the song.

I attended the same high school. 67-71 Harlan in Chicago.

  • DAMN SON!

  • did outkast get the horns frm "2 dope boyz" frm this track???

  • i kno u asked 2 months ago, but yea, they did lol

  • Look up the song "Young Brothers" by Wu Syndicate. They sampled this too, and it sounds nice

  • Word,Yo they also used the begin'n for "Golden Sands"..Check it out.

  • The Candy Store "Escape From Belize" 12"

  • Crazy! Umluvinit!!

  • I remember when I was a teenager and they came to St. Louis and turned the UAW Hall OUT. They were some bad little dudes.

  • outkast already sampled this on two dope boys

  • Was that song on my FAVORITE album Aquremini or how ever you spell it. I have that album.

  • nah ATliens b

  • this song had a 60's sound put was made in the 70's thats y I love it ya digg

  • this is dope...i'm bout ta take a shot @ samplin it

  • Try singing it or playing it first; then sample it if you must.

Get deeper into the groove. So that you can elevate beyond the knee jerk hip-hoppers.

    Peace

  • Harness in the good energy, block out the bad. Harness. Energy. Block. Bad. It's like a carousel. You put the quarter in, you get on the horse, it goes up and down, and around. Circular, circle. Feel it. Go with the flow.

    "...psycho..."

  • 2 Dopes Boys and a Cadillac

  • /watch?v=mceYRtMSP7Y

  • in my opinion none of them sampled it right. this production could get into the hands of the right person and its over with.

  • are u dumb the outkast version is the shit

  • run this rap on a babe.... hey baby could you maybe......

  • cooley live also sampled this song.

  • Nas sampled this song on Fried Chicken. Only with live instruments

  • i'm not seeing it....

  • listen to that song that is REAL! CURTIS MAYFIELD and the THE FIVE STAIRSTEPs wer blessed with soul and very talented. CHI TOWN BABY!!!!

  • This track is hard. This is an example of hot buttered soul. Peace to the God's. P.N.A.

  • toein 2194.....mysterious,sensuous,beautiful.. always was always will be .Move over amateurs and take note.

  • Ditto!!

  • The richness of the production and the lingering melody certainly has Curtis Mayfield's fingerprints on it. A true genius!!!

  • Takes be back to being a kid, watchin my dad and uncles party to these jams as i ran round with my siblings and cousins...simplier time.

  • Bad,Bad brothers

  • This is SICK! I Love it. This make me remember my dad who passed away when I was 7, I remember him through music, he played all the greatest hits all. Thanks!

  • I stand to be corrected. Jerome E. Brailey (BigFoot) is in the picture but not playing on this song. But still his legs is too long for the picture

  • Jerome E. Brailey (BigFoot) on Drums .......JB , your legs too long for the pic .......Great Songs Live Forever

  • bad ass

  • TALENT,THATS ALL I CAN SAY!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've been digging this song since it came out in the 60's. It is an enchanting masterpiece.

  • As a 37 year old man.I appreciate the dusties(that what we call old school music in Chicago).I grew up listening to this because my sister Gail would play this song all the time. Thanks sis.

  • AHHHHH!! I remember moms banging this out that record player that looked like a floor model tv from the back! As a youngster, i always found the harmony as vital part to those songs back then! Nothing like the old school, I'm just happy I witnessed it first hand.

  • this gets my vote for coolest album cover ever!!!

  • One of the best family groups, and soo young. They wrote most of the songs. Should have made it bigger. Love the harmony.

  • I couldn't agree more with what you said. Better than any family group that ever recorded.

  • I had the honor and pleasure of seeing the 5 Stairsteps live at the Nixon Theater in West Philly, summer of '67 or '68.

  • Yo, the NIXON!! Damn, my father was doorman for shows that came there in the 60's. What a time. I snuck in to see Dionne Jackson, Little Richard, Jackson 5, and a few more. What a time!

  • I was at Nixon when The Temptations came as a surprise act..Jimmy Bishop was the emcee and when he was on stage to start the show somebody yelled out "Sam and Dave" who were performing at time at the Uptown..Anyway , Bishop said "Sam and Dave..??? We got real stars here like The Temps and Aretha"...!!!! ( She was due to perform in the coming weeks)Of course the crowd went crazy...damn , I really miss those shows..there's nothing like that now...nothing...

  • Your father was the doorman..Wish I knew that years ago , he might have been able to hook a brother up with some tickets...lol

  • That's wild, because dad used to bring us the leftover goodies that was not sold. They used to sell hot dogs, sausages, pop corn just like it was the movies but it was at an actual live show. Can you imagine trying to scream at these entertainers while eating hotdogs! The fools that must have choked over time.

  • West Philly in the house-what's crazy is my parents and I had just come from Horn & Hardart at 52nd and Market, walked by the Nixon, I begged them to take me in and yes the Tempts were on stage and I lost my mind like everybody in the crowd. I think about that everytime I drive past the McDonald's that's there now...

  • That was when the neighborhoods were "Neighborly"..There were more block parties , people spoke to you more, the element was of fear not there..We had our "hardheads" and the whole gangwar thing was stupid but we didn't have dumb shit like drive-by shootings , stop -snitching etc...It's like a criminal element has taken over our communites and today's water-down , sampled , instant music is reflection of what's happening now..
