  • There is a fascinating built-up of tension within this piece, particularly well expressed by Sophie-Véronique.

  • one of only 3 bombarde stops that brings tears to my eyes. Well executed!!!

  • Sophie Choplin <3 <3 <3! Inspiration to female organists worldwide!!! :)

  • Sophie Choplin!!!! AMAZING!!!!

  • What a charming women!

Of course the organ sound is never the real thing on records..but when you walk around in the church it sounds great! It is evident that although we can place the best microphones etc..it will never be as beautifull as the sound every pipe can make. You must have been there to give any comment in what kind. Great to find this movies here!

  • Starting at 6:31 I would love to be inside the organ to see all the amazing things the action is doing to translate the motion of the keys to the pallets in this enormous instrument. The demands on the mechanism are incredible, with so many valves needing to pop open so quickly. But then, this is an incredible organ...

  • Why is there a severed head sitting on the right side of the console?

  • Slower than a lot of players, but it works so beautifully, and you can HEAR everything! I love it!

  • best tempo ! perfect -

  • Simply Amazing and Magnificent!!!!! Bravo, Bravo. Ms. Choplin's oneness with the organ is by far one of the best I've ever seen. She is spiritually connected to those notes and keys and her interpretation is by far the best I've ever seen. Magnifique ! ! ! ! !

  • I love the way she turns to her husband at 0:16 she is by far the best organist I know and definately the world's best improviser without a doubt! She is so versatile and comfortable with the instrument - it's like they are made for each other!

  • @sirapt

Her husband is on the other side :)

But otherwise you're right, shes a great person and one of the best musicians on this globe!

  • @GJmusique Oh! I assumed it was him as he kissed her afterwards...maybe it's some other relative :)

  • aw, a kiss on the cheek!!!!!

    Lovely!

    :)

  • Absolutely wonderful!

  • Absolutely brilliant! Dupre is superbe, but she is the best interpreter ever!

  • Great piece!

  • Heh this is scary. 2:04 doesn't sound like an organ, but like a SYNTHESIZER :) Especially I mean those used back in the 1970s by Jean-Michel Jarre in his "Oxygène" cycle. But maybe I'm just on crack :)

  • I don't know if you're on crack or not, but you certainly don't know what you're talking about. :)

  • @codeman2008 if you think so. EVVK, as the Finns would put it.

  • @codeman2008 Actually, Mr. Codeman, I thought the very same thing that Mr Pianoman74 said. It DOES sound like a becrazed synth at times, but that's what's so fascinating. Organs often generate a lot of tonal memories in people's minds and ears. I don't think he's on crack at all.

  • @organboi It doesn't make the same click in my head - but as you say, it's often about memory. I think listening to videos of this kind of audio quality and this close to the pipe work, I try to think what this would have sounded like in person out in the nave.

  • @pianoman74 I don't know the piece you're talking about but I agree with you about this organ sounding like a synth at times. I think great organs often sound NOT like organs, but other instruments or even never before heard instruments.

  • love her voice when she speaks :) She speaks like she plays (bad example though, because the way she speaks should rather be compared to when she plays Widor's Andante sostenuto or so)

  • This piece is so damn dificult, and she played it like it is not a problem at all. She is so highly skilled, she has earned her position as adjointe organist not for nothing. Lets hope in the future she'll have the opportunty to be the titulaire. Not that I wish Daniel Roth death or so, cause he is also a great master!

  • It is like she is dancing with her fingers. I love it.

  • @tumshi33 Smile!! Jesus wants YOU for a Sunbeam!

  • sophie you are the best interpreter i know. Your a the product of a great legacy. Keep up the good work with your beautiful improvisations!

  • This video always brings tears to my eyes.

  • Inappropriate comment vis Ms Choplin's appearance. In fact, looks just fine to me. I appreciate her videos and would like to see more of them.

  • I would try and insult one of your Polish organists, except, well, gosh, I can't think of one good Polish organist, or any good Polish organ literature for that fact.

  • Come on, at this very high level of competence its entirely up to the organist how to sit, move and interpret.

  • Quelle musique !

  • Okay I misunderstood too. Maybe one too many glasses of Shiraz that night. Haha The organ at Gloucester is one of my favourites.

  • Dupre was not organist for an English Cathedral. He was organist at St. Sulpice which is a Catholic Church in Paris, France. The Symphonie-Passion was originally conceived as an improvisation on The Grand Court Organ in Philadelphia during a concert. Dupre later put the improvisation on paper and used it for the dedicatory recital of the organ at London's Westminster Cathedral, Catholic (not to be confused with Westminster Abbey, Anglican).

  • Sorry for any misunderstanding: all I said was that that the last time I heard this was in an English cathedral (Gloucester, as it happens). As for S Sulpice, I have fond memories of High Mass there in November 1994, when Roth played the second of the Op7s... Wonderful. (Added to this was some Grunenwald, and the inevitable (and glorious) improvisation...)

    Regards, Paul

  • EXTRA-MAGNIFIQUE!

  • Finally - Dupre on YouTube! Lovely performance on the composer's own instrument. Last time I heard(?) this was in an English cathedral... at last the work's back home. Simply wonderful!

  • Magnifique! ! ! !
