Corn/Bio-Plastics: An Easy Way to Save the World

How about potato starch? It's very hard to find corn starch in the country I live in but almost every supermarket here has some potato starch available for about $0.8 per 500 grams. And yes, it gives good results too. Mixture of potato starch and water in equal volumes plus a little bit of vegetable oil added (substitution for glycerin) results in rather sturdy (and clear, if everything is done perfectly) plastic. Considering plexiglas is expensive now, case-modders can cook it themselves. :D

I'd say "an easy way to save your conscience" rather than the world...

If its structure is made out of long polymer chains (which gives its appealing strength, resistance and flexibility) how fast does it biodegrade? Does it degrade as fast in t low temp/light condit of t ocean? How ethical it'd be to use t required surface of arable land and drinkable water to produce t needless amount of packaging, gadgets, disposables we currently use?...

Alternatives yes, but only together w REDUCTION

Have watched it with the sound off.....

@MrSabre....for the past 10 years farmers in Europe have been paid to keep land out of production in order to artificially support farm gate prices for food products. There is NO shortage of agricultural land and there are a whole lot of European farmers who would rather be growing something than watching the weeds grow on their once productive land. I'm not familiar with the situation in the USA but it's likely to be similar!

The husks have starch. and besides, it only starch resedues being used. The corn is ingested normally.

dont we need corn to feed people, or perhaps we can cut down more rainforest to plant all this extra corn.. Is this like Bio fuel? a really bad solution.. How about stop buying products that use needless plastic...
